Subscribe to Letters from a Christian Seer for weekly episodes and reflections. Hey friend, Emotions are powerful — and because of that, they’re often misunderstood. Most of us were never taught what emotions are actually for.We were taught to follow them.Suppress them.Fear them.Or let them decide. But Scripture doesn’t tell us to be led by emotions. It tells us to be led by the Spirit. And when emotions aren’t understood, they end up sitting in a place of authority they were never meant to occupy. Today’s episode is a little longer — and intentionally so.Because if we’re being honest, this is where most people live. In their emotions.Trying to make sense of them.Trying to trust God through them.Trying not to be ruled by them. Before you listen, take a breath. You don’t need to fix anything right now.Just bring awareness. And if you want a simple prayer to begin: “Lord, help me understand what I feel — and submit it to You.” When you’re ready, the full episode and show notes are below. I’m really glad you’re here. ✨ 🎙️ E9 📌 FULL SHOW NOTES — Why Emotions Shouldn’t Lead Your Life How God Communicates Through Emotions — and How to Tune Them to His AuthorityLetters from a Christian Seer Welcome back, friend. This episode is about emotions — not how to suppress them, not how to obey them, but how to understand them the way God designed them. Emotions were never meant to be ignored. And they were never meant to lead. They were designed to respond. Today, we’re slowing down and giving emotions their proper place —biblically, spiritually, and practically. For the first time on the podcast, I also share a personal vision that helped me understand emotions as signals, not authorities, and revealed something beautiful about Jesus’ character and how He teaches over time. Crossing Deeper Into the Frequencies We’re continuing our journey through The 15 Frequencies Theory —the God-designed communication system woven into: • your body• your soul• your spirit Scripture affirms this design: “May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless…” — 1 Thessalonians 5:23 We’ve already explored the physical frequencies —sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Then we crossed into the soul frequencies:• the mind — the interpreter• the will — the decision-maker Today, we stay in the soul and move into: Frequency 8: Emotions Because emotions don’t decide —but they do respond and influence. ✨ Inside This Episode • Why emotions feel so powerful• What the Bible actually says about emotions• The difference between emotion, flesh, and Spirit• Why emotions are signals — not sovereigns• How past trauma can influence emotional responses• Why awareness matters more than suppression• The difference between conviction and shame• How to tune your emotional frequency to God• A vision that illustrates emotions as a map — not a destination What Emotions Actually Are Emotions are not bad. They’re not weak. They’re not unspiritual. Jesus had emotions:• He wept• He felt compassion• He experienced sorrow• He expressed righteous anger Emotion is not the issue. Authority is. Scripture reminds us: “The heart is deceitful above all things…” — Jeremiah 17:9 That doesn’t mean emotions are evil.It means they require discernment. Ignoring emotions leads to numbness.Letting emotions lead leads to chaos. God’s design is awareness with order. Emotions, the Flesh, and the Spirit Emotions live in the soul and are heavily influenced by the flesh —meaning they react quickly to pain, memory, fear, and unmet needs. That doesn’t make emotions sinful. It means they must be submitted. “Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” — Romans 8:14 We are never instructed to be led by emotion. We are instructed to be led by the Spirit. Why Trauma Matters (Awareness, Not Authority) Sometimes emotions rise without a clear present-day cause. That doesn’t make them wrong. It means they may be pulling signal from past learning, not current reality. Trauma can become a source emotions respond from —not because it has authority, but because the body learned patterns before truth was fully integrated. Scripture models this awareness: “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?Put your hope in God…” — Psalm 42:5 David doesn’t obey the emotion. He engages it — then redirects it. Not every emotion is about now. Some are echoes. Wisdom is learning the difference. Emotions as a Frequency Emotions are a receiver system. They don’t create truth. They don’t create direction. They respond to whatever they’re tuned to. When emotions are tuned to fear, memory, or survival, they’re loud but distorted. When emotions are tuned to God —His Word, His Spirit, His presence —they come into order. Same emotions.Different authority. Conviction vs. Shame Strong emotion does not automatically mean God is speaking. “Godly sorrow produces repentance that leads to salvation…but worldly sorrow produces death.” — 2 Corinthians 7:10 Conviction draws you toward God.Shame pushes you away. Both can feel intense.Only one moves you closer to the light. 🎯 Weekly Activation — Tuning the Emotional Frequency 1️⃣ Pause Before ActingBring the emotion to God before responding. “Pour out your hearts before Him.” — Psalm 62:8 2️⃣ Investigate the SourceAsk: Is this about now… or about then? 3️⃣ Submit Emotion to the Spirit “By the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body…” — Romans 8:13 4️⃣ Let Peace Rule “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” — Colossians 3:15 When emotions are submitted to the Spirit, they stop producing chaosand start producing fruit. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…” — Galatians 5:22–23 The goal isn’t emotional numbness. It’s emotional fruitfulness. 📖 Key Themes + Scriptures • Jeremiah 17:9 — The heart requires discernment• Psalm 42:5 — Engaging emotions without obeying them• Romans 8:14 — Being led by the Spirit• 2 Corinthians 7:10 — Conviction vs. shame• Colossians 3:15 — Letting peace rule• Galatians 5:22–23 — Emotional fruit under the Spirit 🔥 What Comes Next Episode 10 — Affections & Values Emotions show you where you are.Affections show you what you’re attached to.Values explain why. “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6:21 Next week, we’ll talk about how God reorders affectionsby clarifying what truly matters. 📘 Preorder — Holy Grit Recovery Devotional (Kindle) Before you go, one more quiet invitation.
