    Paul's Epistles Bible Reading Plan

    Welcome back to The Read, Do, & Tell Podcast! Today, Amy and I are walking you through the next 30-day Bible reading plan for November. This time, it's all about Paul's epistles {or letters}. Saul, also known as Paul, was an apostle of Jesus Christ. Although not one of the original 12 disciples of Jesus, Paul was visited by Jesus on the road to Damascus. Here, Paul had an encounter with Jesus, which would change his life forever. {Read about this in Acts 9 as well as when Paul retells it in Acts 22.} Paul wrote thirteen epistles, or letters in the New Testament. So, out of the 27 books, Paul wrote 13. Wow! These books, however, are not arranged in chronological order, as one might expect. Most people think these letters are arranged in the order that Paul wrote them, but these letters are not arranged chronologically. So why are the letters of Paul arranged in this way if they're not chronological? They follow two rules. The first group of letters is to cities [or communities], and the second group of letters is written to individuals. Within each of those two groups, the letters are arranged from the longest letters to the shortest letters.” ~ Study the Church In this episode, Amy and I go through 11 of Paul's 13 letters to talk about when and why he wrote them. *Although we mention 1 Timothy and Philemon today, they are not included in the Bible reading plan. Thirty days just isn't enough time to read everything Paul wrote. So, of course, we encourage you to read them on your own. Paul's writings are filled with doctrine and practical ways to live it out.     Ep. 35: “Live Your Truth” Sounds Good…But Is It True?

    Welcome back to The Read, Do, & Tell Podcast! Today, Amy and I are carefully examining the statement, "Do not judge..." in light of truth. What should a follower of Jesus do when someone states that Christians shouldn't judge? Is there such a thing as absolute or objective truth? If so, what is it? What is relative or subjective truth? What's the difference between objective truth and relative truth? What if "your truth" is wrong?  While Christians' default should be absolute truth, we always want to be gracious in our responses to people. (See Colossians 4:6 & 1 Peter 3:15) When we have these discussions with others, we MUST remember: We are not trying to defeat the person or beat them down. We are defeating their arguments and the false ideas or ideologies that they are proclaiming as "truth." (See Ephesians 6:12 & 2 Corinthians 10:3-5)   Our war is not with people, but with the empty philosophies that hold them captive.     Ep. 34: Did Jesus Really Say Not to Judge?

    Welcome back to The Read, Do, & Tell Podcast! Today, Amy and I are discussing arguably the number 1 misquoted New Testament verse from the Bible: Matthew 7:1. "Do not judge..."  Did Jesus really tell us not to judge? If so, why does He tell us TO judge multiple times later in that very same chapter of Matthew 7? Is Jesus contradicting Himself here? What exactly is going on? First, we want to remind you and ourselves that when ANYONE quotes a verse, it's always a good practice to go back and read the verse (or in this case, PART of the verse) in its context. Every verse of the Bible is in a paragraph, which is in a passage, which is in a Book of the Bible. It logically flows that every verse is in the Bible! Our interpretation or application of a verse must always align with the context. If our interpretation or application doesn't align with other passages in the Bible, our interpretation or application is off. In this episode, Amy and I are discussing the context of Matthew 7:1 and how we should carefully interpret and apply Jesus' words about judging.     Ep. 32: The Dangers of Devotionals

    Welcome back to the Read, Do, & Tell Podcast. Amy and I are honored you are listening in (or watching on YouTube). It's true that devotionals may be short (they don't take much time to read) and may even help you understand a concept in the Bible. They can also make you "feel good" about having had a "quiet time" for the day. BUT (and this is a big but), there are certain dangers to only reading devotionals. Today, we are discussing the dangers of only reading Christian devotionals. While we certainly aren't discounting every devotional out there (although we'd emphatically tell your to STAY AWAY from "Jesus Calling"), what we are saying is the BIBLE should be a believer's primary reading source. Everything else we read (including Bible studies) should be tested and judged using God's Word.  Instead of just telling you about the dangers of devotionals, we're also offering some advice on what you SHOULD DO instead.  I hope you'll find this episode challenging AND encouraging!     Ep 31: Jesus' Death & Resurrection Bible Reading Plan

    Welcome back to The Read, Do, & Tell Podcast! Today, Amy & I {Becky} are sharing our next printable Bible reading plan, which is the third of our New Testament reading plans. We're picking up where we left off in Episode 29 in the storyline of the Bible. See the links below for all our reading plans. This reading calendar covers Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem all the way through to His death, resurrection, and ascension. We'll discuss Jesus being anointed at Bethany, His "inspection" as the Passover Lamb, His trials, His death on the cross, and hallelujah! - His resurrection. Quite a bit is written about the week between Palm Sunday and Jesus' resurrection. What's interesting to note is that the people went from "Hail Him!" to "Nail Him!" in just one week's time. But again, nothing that happened to Jesus during this week took Jesus by surprise. Jesus came to do the will of the Father. He came to give His life as a ransom for us.     Ep 30: Introducing The "Read, Do, & Tell" Podcast

    Welcome to The Read, Do, & Tell Podcast! This is our official re-launch of the podcast under a new name and new website here at Raising Rooted Disciples. This episode is more relaxed and informal as Amy and I {Becky} reintroduce ourselves on camera! Yep, we're no longer "hiding" behind the computer screen. If you want to learn about how Amy & I met and why we started this podcast in the first place, I'd encourage you to go back and listen to/watch Episode 1. In today's episode, Amy and I are each sharing three facts about ourself. For example, did you know that Amy loves to dance Salsa? Did you know that Becky prefers non-fiction? Then, we're each sharing a surprise fact about the other person {that neither of us knew would be shared}. We're also sharing why we changed the location and name of the podcast. A few years ago, I {Becky} was listening to a sermon in which Ezra 7 was the text. Ezra 7:10 says, “Now Ezra had determined in his heart to study the law of the Lord, to obey it, and to teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel.” There's a flow to this verse. First, you know God’s Word for yourself.     Ep 29: Jesus' Earthly Ministry Bible Reading Plan

    This Bible reading calendar covers the earthly ministry of Jesus between when He called His twelve disciples and Palm Sunday/Passion Week. In this episode, Amy and I (Becky) cover some of Jesus' miracles, His teachings, His parables, His "I am" statements, and Jesus' purpose for coming to earth. Of course, we aren't including every story from the Gospels. If you want that, we'd highly encourage you to read the Gospels for yourself. :) The shortest Gospel is Mark, but the Gospel most people say to begin with is John. It's your pick! When Jesus walked the earth, He was a wonderful example of how we should live, but we don't stop there. Jesus is MUCH MORE than a good teacher or prophet. Jesus was {and still is} FULLY God and FULLY man. He is alive and seated at the Father's right hand. Jesus came to do the will of the Father. He came to preach the Good News. He came to fulfill the Law and the prophets. He came to seek and save the lost. He came to give His life as a ransom for you and I. We're picking up where we left off in Episode 25 in the storyline of the Bible.
