Menendez brothers: STS Files

Joel Waldman

STS Files revisits one of America’s most infamous family murder cases — the story of Erik and Lyle Menendez, two privileged brothers convicted of killing their wealthy parents, José and Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills mansion in 1989. Decades later, new evidence, emotional testimonies, and shifting public perception are reigniting the debate: were they cold-blooded killers, or abused sons pushed to the edge? This episode explores the psychological, legal, and cultural impact of the Menendez case — from the sensational 1990s trials and media frenzy to today’s renewed interest driven by documentaries, social media, and potential re-examination of evidence. With expert legal insight and archival analysis, Menendez Brothers: STS Files reveals how one family’s tragedy reshaped conversations about abuse, privilege, and justice in America. If you’re fascinated by true crime history, courtroom drama, and evolving narratives of guilt and innocence, this episode delivers a comprehensive, emotionally charged exploration of a case that refuses to fade from the public eye.

Erik Menendez Hospitalized Ahead of Parole: Will the Brothers Get a New Trial?

Erik Menendez is hospitalized with a serious medical condition just weeks before a pivotal parole hearing. A judge says withheld abuse evidence may have changed the verdict — could a new trial be coming?  #STSNation,  Welcome to Surviving the Survivor — the podcast that brings you the #BestGuests in all of #TrueCrime.  Erik Menendez is hospitalized with a serious medical condition—undergoing multiple surgeries for large kidney stones—just weeks before he and his brother Lyle face a crucial parole hearing on August 21–22, 2025.  Their attorney is pushing for a medical furlough, while a California judge has ordered prosecutors to explain why key sexual abuse evidence—like Erik’s 1988 letter to cousin Andy Cano and a 2023 affidavit from Menudo’s Roy Rosselló—was excluded from their original trial. That decision could trigger a full retrial. The brothers were resentenced in May to 50 years to life, making them immediately eligible for parole after 35 years behind bars.  #BestGuests:  • Robert Rand – The original investigative reporter on the Menendez case and author of The Menendez Murders, the definitive book on the brothers and the killings. • Dr. Ildiko Tabori – A Los Angeles-based psychologist analyzing the brothers’ trauma, behavior, and potential rehabilitation.
