"Or" Questions on the TOEIC: Why the Best Answer Isn't Always A or B

#5 · Pizza or sandwiches? "Either" works. Emily is ordering lunch for a training session, and almost every question she asks has two choices. Kevin's answers mostly pick neither one, and they still work. TOEIC tip: The right answer to an “or” question doesn't always pick A or B. In this episode • "Either is fine with me." → on the test: "I don't mind." / "Whichever you prefer." • "Whichever is easier for you." • "Let's say one o'clock." • put it on the company card → on the test: charge it to the company / use a corporate card • "I'd check the sign-up sheet." • just in case → on the test: as a precaution / to be safe Chapters 00:00 The scene 00:23 The conversation 01:02 The breakdown 03:18 Listen again 04:04 Recap Free notes, "Say it another way," and the full transcript, with optional translation (中文 · 日本語 · Français · 한국어): https://toeic.mjenglishclass.com/office-daily-english/toeic-lunch-order/ Follow Win in 5 for the next episode. "Why" Questions on the TOEIC: Great Answers Don't Always Start with "Because"

#4 · Asked "why"? You don't need "because." An order of office chairs is late, and the customer wants to know why. Rachel answers every "why" without saying "because" once, and every answer still works. TOEIC tip: You don't need “because” to answer a “why” question. In this episode • "I'm afraid there's a delay." • won't arrive until Friday → on the test: "The delivery has been delayed." / "The shipment will be late." • There was a storm → on the test: bad weather / weather conditions • "We only got the update this morning." • to make up for it • take ten percent off → on the test: offer a discount / reduce the price Chapters 00:00 The scene 00:23 The conversation 01:07 The breakdown 03:29 Listen again 04:19 Recap Free notes, "Say it another way," and the full transcript, with optional translation (中文 · 日本語 · Français · 한국어): https://toeic.mjenglishclass.com/telephone-english/toeic-late-shipment/ Follow Win in 5 for the next episode. Listening to Announcements: Where the TOEIC Hides the Answers

#3 · Bad news at the staff meeting? Follow the map. Olivia tells her team that a product launch is moving. It's a classic TOEIC Part 4 talk: one speaker, a short announcement, and three questions. Once you know where each answer usually sits, it gets much easier. TOEIC tip: TOEIC Part 4 announcements follow a map. In this episode • I have an update on • unfortunately • postpone → on the test: delay / reschedule • one of the parts • in the meantime • please … by Wednesday Chapters 00:00 The scene 00:23 The conversation 01:04 The breakdown 03:19 Listen again 04:06 Recap Free notes, "Say it another way," and the full transcript, with optional translation (中文 · 日本語 · Français · 한국어): https://toeic.mjenglishclass.com/meeting-english/toeic-launch-delayed/ Follow Win in 5 for the next episode. Running Low on Supplies: How the TOEIC Paraphrases Everyday Office Problems

#2 · Running low on supplies? Here's how the TOEIC says it. Something important is about to run out at the office. Tom and Grace sort it out in under a minute, and every phrase they use is one the TOEIC likes to say in different words. TOEIC tip: The right answer often says what you heard in different words. In this episode • running low → on the test: supplies are limited / there isn't much left • place an order → on the test: make a purchase / request more items • out of stock → on the test: unavailable / sold out • run out • express delivery → on the test: faster shipping / expedited delivery • at the latest Chapters 00:00 The scene 00:21 The conversation 00:59 The breakdown 03:25 Listen again 04:10 Recap Free notes, "Say it another way," and the full transcript, with optional translation (中文 · 日本語 · Français · 한국어): https://toeic.mjenglishclass.com/office-daily-english/toeic-office-supplies/ Follow Win in 5 for the next episode. "When" Questions on the TOEIC: Why the Right Answer Can Have No Time

#1 · Asked "when" with no time? Here's why that's fine. A client wants to move Thursday's meeting. Ryan asks about timing twice, and Megan never gives him a time. Every answer still makes perfect sense, and that's exactly how the TOEIC works. TOEIC tip: A “when” question doesn't always need a time in the answer. In this episode • push back → on the test: postpone / reschedule / delay • "They haven't said yet." → on the test: "I haven't heard yet." / "It hasn't been decided." / "Let me check." • hold it until we hear back • as soon as → on the test: "Not until Friday." / "Right after the client calls." • "I've already sent them a message."
