    What does it take to go from experiencing homelessness to leading the shelter that helps women rebuild? On this episode of The For Henderson Podcast, we sit down with Kendall Dean, executive director of the Father Bradley Shelter for Women and Children. Kendall took the helm in January 2025, inheriting nearly 25 years of history. Since then, she's renovated the facility, added beds, and built a life skills curriculum around one goal: women should leave better than they arrived. Kendall also shares her own story of arriving in Henderson for recovery at the WARM Center, finding mentors who saw something in her, and planting roots here by becoming a first-time homeowner.     Building Henderson's Next Generation of Creators feat. Nate Fish of Colonel Media

    What happens when high school students get the tools, training, and real-world opportunities to become the next generation of creators in Henderson and the surrounding region? Nate Fish teaches film and video production at Henderson County High School and leads Colonel Media, where students are learning far more than how to use a camera. They’re gaining hands-on experience creating films, covering school culture, working with community partners, and developing skills that could lead to real creative careers right here in our region. In this episode of the For Henderson Podcast, Nate shares how Colonel Media has evolved over the past several years, why creative opportunities in Henderson are growing, and what it looks like to help students discover something they genuinely love (and can make a career of).     Don't Let Them Down | How Rob Carroll is Changing the Next Generation of Henderson

    For more than two decades, Rob Carroll helped shape the culture of South Heights Elementary School around a simple belief: kids deserve our very best...and there's no excuse for us to let them down. In this episode of the For Henderson podcast, Rob shares the story behind his 22 years as principal at South Heights, the creation of the school’s lasting mission, and the unconventional decisions that helped transform expectations for students, families, and staff. Rob also takes us behind the early vision for Audubon Kids Zone, explaining why serving kids well required Henderson’s schools, churches, organizations, and community leaders to work together beyond the walls of the classroom (or the traditional 9-5 hours). Now a professor at USI and again working with AKZ, Rob is investing those lessons into the next generation of educators and leaders.     Baking After Bedtime: How Hailee is Building Her Dream in Henderson feat. Hailee Taylor of Hailee's Heavenly Sweets

    Raising Henderson's Next Generation feat. Anthony Black of South Heights Elementary School

    Anthony Black grew up in Henderson’s East End, attended South Heights Elementary School, and now serves as principal of the same school that helped shape him. In this episode of the For Henderson Podcast, Anthony shares his journey from student to teacher to school administrator, (with a quick detour to fight some literal fires) and ultimately ending up as the principal of South Heights. Mr. Black talks about the teachers who changed the trajectory of his own life, the responsibility of leadership, and why he sees his primary job as removing obstacles so his teachers can serve students well. The conversation also dives into the culture South Heights has built around relationships, high expectations, and doing “whatever it takes” for its students. Anthony explains why loving kids and holding them accountable aren’t opposites, and why both are necessary to help students become great people, not just great students. From greeting kids at the door to seeing South Heights become a safe place students visit even during summer break, Mr. Black's story is a powerful example of community leadership in Henderson.
