The Body I Worked For: Denise's Story - The Reveal Room, Episode Nine

After losing nearly 150 pounds with the help of gastric sleeve surgery, Denise had already accomplished something incredible. But even after doing the hard work and maintaining her weight loss, the excess skin left behind made her feel like she was still “living in a body that didn’t suit me anymore.” In this episode of The Reveal Room, we sit down with someone Dr. Michael Lynch affectionately calls his “OG” weight-loss patient. Denise shares the moment that started it all - not being able to get on a fair ride with her kids and the journey that eventually brought her to Plastic Surgeons of Lexington. She also talks openly about body dysmorphia after significant weight loss and the mental adjustment that can come with such a dramatic physical change. Even after the weight was gone, the way she saw herself didn’t necessarily change overnight. Dr. Lynch performed Denise’s tummy tuck with liposuction, breast augmentation and arm lift to address the excess skin and reshape her body after significant weight loss. Denise shares what recovery was really like, how she has maintained her weight and the emotional moment she cried when she was first unwrapped and saw her new shape. For Dr. Lynch, these are some of the most rewarding operations he gets to perform. In a field where medicine can often mean difficult news, plastic surgery offers a different opportunity: helping someone reshape their body into the version they worked so hard to achieve. And for Denise? Seeing an actual shape in her clothes instead of what she describes as “a blob” is an awesome feeling. From gastric sleeve surgery and a 150-pound weight loss to body dysmorphia, excess skin and plastic surgery after weight loss, Denise shares the real story behind her transformation and why, even though these are big surgeries, seeing the finished result made it all worthwhile. “I’m back to me!" - Melanie’s Story - The Reveal Room, Episode Eight

Episode 8: “I’m Back to Me!” | Melanie’s Story For Melanie, plastic surgery wasn’t about looking like someone different. It was about feeling like herself again. In her 60s, Melanie came to Dr. Hill for a facelift and neck lift. She later returned for upper and lower blepharoplasty, followed by a tummy tuck and breast augmentation. She admits the idea of plastic surgery was scary at first, but says everything changed once she walked through the door for her consultation. “That first step in the office is the hardest part,” she shares. Her only regret? Not doing it sooner. Dr. Hill puts it simply when talking about facelift surgery: “It’s not to make you look different, it’s to make you look more like yourself.” And that’s exactly how Melanie feels today. She says she looks more like the person she remembers seeing in the mirror in her 20s, 30s and 40s, and, most importantly, “I’m much happier now. I’m back to me.” If you’ve been on the fence about plastic surgery, Melanie has one piece of advice: take that first step. Listen to Episode 8 of The Reveal Room wherever you get your podcasts.
