    Trusting in the Lord, Not the Arm of Flesh

    2 Nephi 4:34 - "O Lord, I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee forever. I will not put my trust in the arm of flesh; for I know that cursed is he that putteth his trust in the arm of flesh. Yea, cursed is he that putteth his trust in man or maketh flesh his arm." Elder Ulisses Soares - "My dear brothers and sisters, as sophisticated as modern technology has become, it simply cannot simulate the wonder, awe, and amazement found in the kind of reverence born from the influence of the Holy Ghost.     A Broken Heart and a Contrite Spirit

    2 Nephi 4:32 - "May the gates of hell be shut continually before me, because that my heart is broken and my spirit is contrite!     Filled With His Love

    2 Nephi 4:21 - "He hath filled me with his love, even unto the consuming of my flesh." Elder Paul E. Koelliker - "The feeling of love from our Heavenly Father is like a gravitational pull from heaven. As we remove the distractions that pull us toward the world and exercise our agency to seek Him, we open our hearts to a celestial force which draws us toward Him. Nephi described its impact as 'even unto the consuming of [his] flesh.' This same power of love caused Alma to sing a 'song of redeeming love.' It touched Mormon in such a way that he counseled us to 'pray … with all the energy of [our] heart' that we might be filled with His love.     Knowing in Whom We Trust

    2 Nephi 4:19 - "And when I desire to rejoice, my heart groaneth because of my sins; nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted." Elder D. Todd Christofferson - "Nephi stated this hopeful conclusion: 'Nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted.' What did he mean?     Delighting in the Scriptures

    2 Nephi 4:15 - "And upon these I write the things of my soul, and many of the scriptures which are engraven upon the plates of brass. For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them, and writeth them for the learning and the profit of my children."  Sister Cheryl Lant - "'My soul delighteth.' I love this phrase! I have thought about hungering and thirsting after knowledge as I read the scriptures, but delighting in them is something else. I find that what I take away from the scriptures is determined by what I bring. Each time I read them, I am, in a sense, bringing a new person with new eyes to the experience. Where I am in my life, the experiences I am having, and my attitude all affect how much I will gain. I love the scriptures. I treasure the truths I find as I read them. Joy fills my heart as I receive encouragement, direction, comfort, strength, and answers to my needs. Life looks brighter, and the way opens before me. I am reassured of my Heavenly Father’s love and concern for me every time I read.
