    How much are you willing to lose to be a good teacher? Teachers don't just spend money on their classrooms. We spend our time, our emotional energy, our evenings, our weekends—and sometimes we keep giving because we feel like we owe our students more. In this episode of Pedagogically Speaking, we're talking about teacher debt: the hidden costs of trying to be a good teacher. There's the financial cost of buying classroom supplies, books, resources, snacks, and materials—sometimes because schools simply don't have the funding to provide what teachers and students need. There's the emotional cost of constantly wondering if you've done enough, taking responsibility for outcomes you can't completely control, and carrying students' struggles home with you. And then there's the time cost: staying late, working weekends, answering emails, creating resources, and constantly finding “just one more thing” to do. The problem isn't that teachers care too much. The problem is when caring becomes a reason to give everything.
