    Suffering as an Instrument of God's Love

    In part two of a series on the theology of suffering, Dave Scherrer asks the question underneath the question: if God is love, why does He allow suffering at all? Dave reminds us that God is in the business of redeeming "Ta Panta" — all things — to Himself, and things only need redeeming if they're broken. Suffering entered the world through sin, and Dave walks through Genesis 3:16-19 to trace how guilt, pain, toil, and death became part of the human story. But God didn't stay distant — He entered our suffering Himself in Jesus Christ, and through His death and resurrection is making a way to a world where suffering will be no more (Revelation 21:4).     A Theology of Suffering: The Book of Job

    Why does God allow suffering — and does He actually understand what we're going through? In part one of this two-part study, Dave Scherrer turns to the book of Job, widely regarded as one of the oldest books in the Bible, to explore the hidden heavenly backdrop to Job's suffering and his eventual silence before God's sovereignty. Dave shows how Job's story points us toward trusting God's Kingdom plan even without answers, then turns to Romans 8:28 for the promise that God works all things for our good. He closes with what he believes is Christianity's unique answer to the problem of evil: a God who entered our suffering Himself, and answered the question "Do you understand?" at the cross of His own Son.     When Does It Become Suffering?

    Dave Scherrer gets unusually personal in this episode, sharing his own long list of "things I wish were different" — years of surgeries and chronic pain, the loss of both parents and his wife's parents in one season, donating a kidney to his wife Susan, and later walking with her through a brain hemorrhage. And yet, Dave says, none of it has ever felt like suffering to him — because of perspective. He turns to the Apostle Paul's own catalog of hardships in 2 Corinthians 11, which Paul called a "momentary light affliction."     Joseph's Lesson for Our Suffering

    Joseph's story reads like a movie — betrayal, slavery, false accusation, imprisonment — and yet Scripture keeps insisting "the Lord was with him." In part two of our series on suffering, Dave Scherrer walks through Genesis 37-50 and pulls out four things Joseph's hardest years teach us about suffering well: that God's presence never actually leaves, that hardship can be part of a bigger plan, that integrity under pressure is both protective and restorative, and that real forgiveness is possible on the other side of real pain. It all lands on one of the most quoted lines in Scripture — "You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good" — and a hope-filled reminder that there are Kingdom offerings waiting to be claimed in our own suffering.     From Orphan to Heir — What Annie Teaches Us About the Kingdom | Kingdom Offerings

    What if a Broadway musical tells the story of your spiritual inheritance better than you realized? In this episode, Dave Scherrer delivers on his promise from last week — a "Cracker Jack" illustration of what it means to have your status raised in the Kingdom of God. The story of Annie — moving from a miserable orphanage under a hateful housemother to the mansion of the wealthiest man on earth — is a vivid picture of what happens when God adopts us as His own. Our hard-knock life of darkness is transformed by the brightness of the Son coming up tomorrow.     The Four Blessings of the Kingdom — What You Actually Receive in Christ | Kingdom Offerings

    The gospel isn't about me. But that doesn't mean there aren't real, breathtaking blessings that come when we enter His Kingdom.     You Will Reign with Christ — What Scripture Actually Says | Kingdom Offerings

    Christ is King. Not king with a small "k" — the King of all kings, whose rule is everlasting. That's a grand theme of the Bible. But there's a related theme that might surprise you: in some way, we too will rule with Him. In part 2 of this mini-series, Dave Scherrer walks through five key passages that reveal a two-fold Kingdom reality.
