It doesn’t matter who you are. Something can go wrong when you least expect it. The seven stories you’re about to hear do not begin with danger, but rather with people going about their regular routine, with trust for the people around them, on days that felt normal. These stories are 100% true, and most didn’t realize anything was wrong until it was too late. So listen closely, because you’re about to find out how easily these events could have started on a day like today. They are generally large areas designated by a country's government for nature conservation and public recreation. Because of their prestige, they become popular tourist attractions for both national and international visitors. They are places to escape the bustle of the city or the stressors of everyday life. Whether it's a day trip or a longer getaway, national parks will not disappoint. However, most people don’t think about the potential risks found within these beautiful sites. Much of the time, a visitor might meet with a simple slip and fall. Other times, the wildlife can be less than welcoming, especially towards those who disregard their boundaries. Several national parks are rather isolated from larger population centers, but rangers do their best to patrol the parks and offer their support to those who need it. Sadly, this doesn't always help. With many of these parks encompassing millions of acres, finding someone lost or injured can be compared to finding a needle in a haystack. Large swaths of forest impede visibility from the air and on the ground. Then there are the places where the weather poses the biggest risk. From harsh colds to scorching heat, people run the risk of running afoul of mother nature. Of course, this is just the worst-case scenario. Of the millions of people who visit national parks each year, only a small percentage (and we mean small) encounter these situations. Of these, even fewer go missing and are never found. There are still a number of visitors, however, who entered a national park and seemingly vanished, never seen by their friends or family again. Today, we are going to discuss some of these strange and unsolved cases. Chapters: 00:00 Intro 00:30 Number 9: Lost in the Sierra Nevada 04:36 Number 8: Lost in the Valley 09:05 Number 7: Vanished into the Great Smoke 15:14 Number 6: A Lie which May Have Cost a Life 18:21 Number 5: The Rocky Maze of the Colorado River 21:39 Number 4: Into New Zealand's Great White Snow 24:01 Number 3: Where Old Faithful Blows its Top 28:49 Number 2: Where the Alps Meet the Southern Hemisphere 33:11 Number 1: At the Crossroads of the Appalachians 35:35 Proton VPN 37:11 Outro Sources: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YtkLWBfAIf5qqcnPsdzs3vxQq4oMCAy4m3Q6YpXaQUE/ Media sources include: Wikimedia Commons, Google Earth Studio, Google Maps, Pexels, Unsplash, Soundstripe Music: "Ice Demon" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

You've had a busy day, and are getting ready to embrace the warm arms of slumber. Having gotten tucked into your warm blanket, you lay your head on your pillow, and soon drift into the world of dreams. Suddenly, you find yourself awake, your eyes still closed. There's this nagging feeling in your gut that something is amiss. You didn't hear a sound to disturb your rest, just this discomfort. Something is telling you there is an issue, that you are not alone. You open your eyes and turn over, to show your mind that there's nothing to be afraid of. That's when you see it. There's a figure standing in the corner, barely visible in the shadows. You freeze, and your heart begins to pound. You've heard of sleep paralysis before, maybe even experienced it. But this is different. You are able to move seamlessly, and the figure appears much clearer. You sit up, hoping it's a trick of your mind. But it isn't. Someone is watching you. Someone is really there. And the terror becomes real. This is an unlikely scenario we've presented, but it has real world examples of such instances occurring. People who have woken to find strangers in their bedroom with unclear intentions. Most of the time, the person has caught a thief who did a poor job hiding. In other cases, the motives aren't as simple. Today, we are here to present true stories of people who have awoken to strangers in their bedroom.
