Mike After Midnight is a weekly movie review podcast recorded late at night usually after the opening of a movie. It’s recorded late because Mike can’t get to the theater until after his kids bedtime and immediately after the movie is the next best time for him to produce a podcast. Hosted by Mike Allen, this is a casual, fun take on horror, psychological thrillers, and the dark movies that hit my radar. Expect quick turnaround reviews with what actually worked and what didn’t, a heads up on the content, and simply is the movie is actually worth your time. There will be swearing. There may be spoilers. You might laugh.

Episode 4: Whistle, I hear you AND I SEE YOU!

Tonight on Mike After Midnight, I’m talking about Whistle, a possessed object horror built around a simple, but dangerous idea. We’re all taught you use a whistle to call for help. To get attention. But what if it doesn't summon help at all? What if it was a fast pass to the afterlife? Listen now to a spoiler free breakdown and a final verdict on whether you should skip out on sleep too!

Episode 3: Return to Silent Hill...more horror game than horror movie

Return to Silent Hill tries to drag me back into that same dread the first movie nailed. The grotesque visuals, then heavy grief, Pyramid Head on that a** like a nightmare you can’t wake up from. And yeah… the film definitely commits to a video vibe. POV shots, overhead tracking, cut scenes like a game, and reality shifts that make it feel like you’re playing through the story instead of just watching it. But even with some freaky moments (the cockroaches with the wild tongues had my hair standing up!!!), the movie never fully hit that grand, sort of mortifying high point I wanted. All the big Silent Hill “players” show up… they just don’t hit you quite as powerful as they could. Is this trip back to the fog worth catching the 10:45 showing after the kids are asleep? Let’s talk about it.

Episode 2: 28 Years Later - Bone Temple Brutality!!!

Welcome back to Mike After Midnight, your late night, one take, no sleep ’til it’s live movie reviewer. In this episode, Mike navigates the murky waters of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, a sequel that dives deeper into the human psyche amidst a zombie apocalypse. With a unique perspective on humanity’s darker side, this installment continues the saga of Spike, who transitions from a sheltered child to a young man confronting the brutal realities of a world ravaged by both the undead and the living. Mike shares his thoughts on the film’s character development, the chilling portrayal of human nature, and the subtle nuances that set this series apart from typical zombie flicks. He reflects on the film's pacing and the emotional weight behind the relationships formed, particularly between Spike and the enigmatic Dr. Ian.

Episode 1: Primate (2026) - Got Me Going Bananas

This is Mike After Midnight, your late night, one take, no sleep ’til it’s live movie reviewer. In this episode, Mike dives into the murky waters of Primate (2026), a film that promises nature horror but delivers a lackluster experience. With a rushed narrative and a failure to build any suspense, Mike reflects on how the film robbed him of excitement and left him questioning the choices made by its characters. From the uninspired kills to the underwhelming CGI, he lays bare the missed opportunities that plague this flick. Listen, then call the the MAM Listener Line and tell me what you thought! Did you stay up late for Primate? Do you think it was worth it? Did I miss the mark? Let me know! Thanks for supporting a small, independent podcast. I’m Mike, and this is Mike After Midnight.
