    The Liberal Strategy Nobody Was Supposed to Notice

    Mark Carney and the Liberal government are flooding Canadians with strategies, spending announcements, international partnerships and promises of economic transformation. But where are the documents Canadians need to verify any of it? Ottawa has not released the complete American trade offer it rejected before asking Canadians to prepare for sacrifice and economic pain. The RCMP has refused to release its policing memorandum with China. Meanwhile, leading economists and the Parliamentary Budget Officer have raised serious concerns about transparency surrounding federal spending. Former TD chief economist Don Drummond has worked around government budgets since 1977. His assessment was extraordinary: he has never seen such a lack of transparency.     Canada, What Is Happening To Us?

    Something has changed in Canada, and I don't think it's for the better. The Canada-U.S. trade war has become about far more than tariffs and negotiations. Canadians are boycotting, booing, policing where other Canadians travel and what they buy, questioning one another's patriotism and increasingly treating disagreement as betrayal. So for this episode of Tap the Maple, I'm doing something different. This isn't another episode about Mark Carney. It isn't another episode about Donald Trump. And it isn't another argument about how Canada can become more economically competitive. This one is about us. When did loving Canada start requiring us to hate someone else? When did suffering become proof of patriotism? When did questioning our own government become disloyal? And when did being Canadian become so exhausting? I believe Canada should vigorously defend its interests. But defending Canada and becoming an angry country are two very different things.     Can Your Own Child STEAL Your Government Pension? THIS IS CRAZY!

    Could Canada be sending Old Age Security payments to people who have already died? A viewer sent me an extraordinary allegation about OAS payments continuing overseas after recipients die, and I initially thought there was no way the numbers would support the concern. Then I started digging. Canada's Old Age Security program paid approximately $80.2 BILLION in benefits in 2024–25. According to federal government records, established fraudulent OAS overpayments that year totalled just $271,400. That's approximately $3.38 in established fraud for every $1 MILLION in OAS benefits. The year before? Established fraudulent OAS overpayments were only $61,100. Maybe Canada has built one of the greatest fraud-detection systems on Earth. Or maybe there's another question Canadians should be asking: How much fraud are we NOT detecting? That becomes particularly interesting when an OAS recipient lives outside Canada and eventually dies overseas. How does Service Canada learn about that death? Is the information automatically shared? Does Canada periodically verify that overseas recipients are still alive? What happens when nobody reports the death? We know improper pension payments after death aren't hypothetical, Canadians have previously been charged in cases involving benefits that continued after recipients died. So today we're investigating Canada's OAS system, overseas pension payments, proof-of-life verification, fraud detection and one remarkably simple question: How does Canada know everyone receiving these payments is still alive? IMPORTANT: This episode does NOT allege that immigrants or overseas OAS recipients are broadly committing fraud. The available evidence does not establish that. We're examining whether Canada's controls are capable of detecting improper payments when deaths occur outside the country.     Fake Conservatives ARE AMONG US

I reject that completely. Donald Trump owns America's tariffs. He owns his rhetoric and his attacks on Canada. But Canadians are still entitled to ask a much bigger question: How did Canada become so economically vulnerable in the first place? For years Canada has struggled with weak productivity, sluggish business investment, internal trade barriers, stalled resource development, inadequate defence spending and an extraordinary dependence on the American market. Pointing that out isn't hatred of Canada. It might be exactly the opposite. In this episode of Tap the Maple, Bakes examines the growing attempt to turn patriotism into a political loyalty test — and asks whether “elbows up,” retaliatory tariffs and calls for Canadian sacrifice are actually making the country stronger. Ottawa is simultaneously spending billions supporting Canadian workers and businesses affected by the trade war. But what if Canada's most powerful response isn't another tariff? What if it's COMPETITION? The IMF has estimated that eliminating Canada's non-geographic internal trade barriers could eventually increase real GDP by nearly 7%.
