    Terminology: Atonal - Music that avoids a strict tonal center, music that lacks any real sense of “home” to the ear. Canon (semi-canonic) - Overlapping imitative lines in music Appoggiatura - A non-chord based note or ornament to the music that suspends or delays going to the ear’s desired note. Meant to create a sort of yearning sensation.

    Terminology: Augmented Second -  An interval between the first and second note of a typical Major scale that has the second note raised by one half-step higher than it naturally appears. Double Reed Instrument -  An instrument in which two pieces of cane vibrating against each other create the sound/resonance. Doublings -  The same notes are played by multiple instruments across the orchestra to increase weight, size, and presence.     01 - The History of the Ring

    Terminology: Minor-moded - Built on a musical language or distances between notes that naturally sounds somber, reflective, or mournful rather than bright or triumphant. Minor triad -  Three notes played together that, because of the ratios of distance between them, form the emotional core of a sad or serious sound. Raised fourth -  A raised fourth is a note that sits just outside of the typical “expected” harmony, creating a subtle sense of tension and unease. Two harmonic regions at once -  This means the music briefly suggests two different emotional or tonal “places” at the same time instead of committing to one. A Minor and F Minor -  Examples of collections of 7 different notes that, because of the distances between each note in sequence, result in a more sombre, sad, or melancholy tone. A♭ (enharmonic relationship) -  This refers to a pitch that is technically the same sound as another note but spelled differently to allow for written clarity in the music.
