Bonus Episode: Premier League 2026-27 Predictions

🎙️ Bonus Episode: 2026/27 Premier League Season PredictionsThe new Premier League season is here—and it's time for us to put our reputations on the line. In this special bonus episode, we look ahead to the 2026/27 Premier League season and attempt to predict how the campaign will unfold. Arsenal enter the season as defending champions, while a host of new managers, new signings and newly promoted clubs make this one of the most difficult seasons to call. Who will challenge for the title? Can Arsenal retain their crown? Will Manchester City bounce back? Can Liverpool return to the top? And what can we expect from Chelsea under Xabi Alonso and the rest of the new-look managerial landscape? We go 1st to 20th, making our predictions for every club and debating the biggest questions facing the league. 🏆 Who will win the Premier League? 🥈 Who will finish in the Champions League places? 🇪🇺 Who will qualify for Europe? 😱 Who will be the surprise package? 📉 Who is heading for relegation? ⚽ Who will win the Golden Boot? 🌟 Who will be Player of the Season? 👔 Which manager will make the biggest impact? 🔥 And which of our predictions will look ridiculous by Christmas? With Coventry City, Hull City and Ipswich Town joining the Premier League, we also assess the promoted sides and their chances of surviving their first season back in the top flight. It's predictions, arguments, bold calls and probably a few things we'll regret by May. Who gets it right? Only time will tell. Football’s Turning Points: The Bosman Ruling, 1995

🎙️ Turning Points: The Bosman Ruling — Did It Free Football? In the latest episode of Turning Points, we explore one of the most important—and controversial—moments in modern football history: the Bosman ruling of 1995. Today, footballers can run down their contracts and move to another club without a transfer fee. But that freedom was not always guaranteed. To understand how Jean-Marc Bosman’s legal battle changed the game, we go back decades before his case reached the European Court of Justice. We explore the old retain-and-transfer system, when clubs could continue to control a player’s registration even after his contract had expired, and the growing battle between footballers and clubs over freedom of movement. We also look at the pioneering case of George Eastham, who challenged the restrictive English transfer system in 1960. His fight helped establish that footballers should not be treated differently from other workers—and provided an important precursor to Bosman’s eventual challenge. Then we turn to Bosman’s own story. In 1990, the Belgian midfielder found himself unable to secure a move from RFC Liège to USL Dunkerque after his club demanded a transfer fee despite his contract expiring. His decision to challenge the system would eventually transform European football. ⚖️ The old retain-and-transfer system 🏴 George Eastham’s groundbreaking legal challenge 🇧🇪 Jean-Marc Bosman’s fight for freedom 🇪🇺 The 1995 European Court of Justice ruling 💰 The explosion of transfer fees and player wages 🌍 The end of nationality restrictions for EU players ⚽ How Bosman created the modern transfer market But was Bosman ultimately good for football? Did it finally give players the freedom they deserved—or did it accelerate football’s financial arms race, increase inequality between clubs and help create the modern superclub? From Eastham to Bosman, this is the story of how footballers fought to take control of their own careers—and how one legal ruling changed the game forever. Football’s Turning Points: The Birth of the Premier League, 1992

🎙️ Turning Points #1: The Birth of the Premier League – Was It Good for Football? In the very first episode of our brand-new Turning Points series, we examine one of the most significant moments in football history: the birth of the Premier League. In 1992, English football changed forever. A breakaway by the First Division clubs created the Premier League, ushering in a new era of satellite television, billion-pound broadcasting deals and unprecedented commercial growth. But more than 30 years later, was it actually good for the game? To answer that question, we first travel back to the 1980s—a decade in which English football was in crisis. Hooliganism, crumbling stadiums, financial instability and tragedies such as Heysel left the domestic game at a crossroads. The Taylor Report and the arrival of Sky Sports helped reshape football’s future, but at what cost? We explore how the Premier League transformed English football into the world’s most watched domestic competition, attracting the best players, managers and investment from across the globe. We also ask whether that success has come at a price. Has money created an ever-widening gap between clubs? Has television changed the match-going experience? And has football become too commercialised, leaving supporters behind? Rather than simply celebrating or criticising the Premier League, we weigh both sides of the argument and ask whether its creation was ultimately the greatest decision English football ever made—or the moment the modern game lost part of its soul. ⚽ English football in the 1980s 📺 Sky Sports and the TV revolution 💰 Money, commercialisation and globalisation 🏟️ The transformation of stadiums and fan culture 🤔 Was the birth of the Premier League good or bad for football? Join us as we launch Turning Points, a new series exploring the moments that changed football history forever.
