This podcast series was very helpful to educate me on the different health insurance plans while also reminding me what the insurance vocabs terms mean that will come up regularly when dealing with insurance. I learned that the reason there is separate coverage for health, dental and vision is because these areas all need a special focus to prevent diseases and stay healthy. I also learned that the HMO plan is a lower cost but requires you to stay in network, PPO will give you more access and flexibility but is often more expensive, and HDHP will provide you with lower premiums. It is also a good idea to contribute to your HSA account so that you can use it for health-related expenses.

Three of my main takeaways from listening to The Health Insurance Series is that Choosing and deciding what health insurance to pick is a very personal decision that should be catered to your own needs. It’s important to make sure you choose the right insurance that guarantees the network of providers and specialists you want to seek care from. Health insurance, above all, is a preventative measure, so even if you believe you do not believe you need it, things can happen. Deductibles are an important thing in insurance because they dictate how much you are paying vs insurance. Once you hit your deductible for spending, insurance takes care of the rest until the next calendar year. Deductibles also can vary because there are both individual and family plans, which I did not know. As stated in the podcast, the most important thing to take away is that coinsurance is a cost share. It's defined as the percentage of the cost you are individually responsible for to the percentage of the cost the insurance is responsible for

I really enjoyed this health insurance series because it explained confusing insurance terms in a simple way. Three important concepts I learned were the difference between deductible, copays, and coinsurance, how HMO and PPO health plans different why choosing the right plan matters, and the importance of understanding in network vs out of network providers to avoid higher costs. I also learned about out of pocket maximums, open enrollment, and improve your health. This podcast was informative and practical, and I would recommend it to other young adults who are learning how health insurance works.

This podcast helped teach me a lot about insurance, how it works and what it means. The first thing I learned was risk pooling and transfers. Insurance works by transferring the financial burden of an unpredictable loss from an individual to an insurance company. The insurer pools premiums from a large group of people to pay for the claims of the unfortunate few. I also learned about replacement costs (RCV) vs. actual cash value (ACV): This dictates your claim payout. RCV pays to replace a damaged item (like a roof) with a brand-new equivalent. ACV only pays for the item's value minus depreciation for age and wear, leaving you with higher out-of-pocket costs. The third thing I learned was three-number liability limits. This defines the maximum your insurer will pay if you cause an accident. Split into three caps (e.g., 100/300/100), it limits bodily injury per person, total bodily injury per accident, and property damage to others. Setting these too low leaves your personal assets vulnerable to lawsuits.
