Spread The Word

Today’s narrative paints the picture of a frustrated group of people who have worked all day and done all they could and have failed. The have failed at their work which means that they and their families are at risk of not having anything to eat and not having anywhere to live. They have failed, they have accepted that they have failed and they are preparing to go home to their families with nothing. Then Jesus tells Simon Peter to try again. Simon knows that there is no point to this. He has proven it. But he has faith enough in Jesus, even though he is doubtful, to be obedient to Him and casts his net out again to catch fish. So what happened? === Luke 5:1-11 - King James Version 5 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. 7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. Speak It

The four verses we have today are very powerful, especially when we are starting something new. They show God creating and they show at least one way for us to create. In verses one and two, God looked over His creation. In verse three He took a step towards sculpting His creation and making it more as He wanted it to be. But, why did God show us these steps? He could have created the earth in its final form to begin with. Why go through these steps? I believe one reason for His doing this, is to show us how to plan and how to work. If we were to follow God’s procedure here, we would choose our task or idea. Review it carefully and then, when we’re ready, speak it into the light. Speaking it into the light is giving voice to what we are going to do, what we are going to create. Literally speaking it into reality. Speaking our intentions out loud to ourselves is a very powerful action, especially if we do it everyday. It makes our plans real and motivates us to work towards fulfilling them. Thinking about your plans is daydreaming and fantasizing, speaking your plans out loud is planning. I’m not the type of person to tell all my friends and family what I’m working on, people tend to throw cold water on plans that are not theirs - even if they don’t intend to. Some plans I keep between me and God. Which brings me to verse 7. When we have reviewed our plans, goals, intentions and tasks, give them to God. Ask God to guide you in what to do and how to go about doing it. Expect God to provide you with whatever it is you’re looking for. Expect God to open doors that you didn’t even know needed to be opened. Give your plan to God, work on your plan and execute your plan to His glory. Once you have given your work to God, He will guide you. Be careful what you ask for though because you will find that God will move your life towards that goal. In the beginning of this new year, take time to carefully look over your life and situation. Is there something that you need to take to God? Is there a part of your life that needs to be worked on? Is there some work that you know God wants you to do but you haven’t been working on it. Jesus Walked To The Cross For Us

As I’m talking today, it is Christmas Eve 2020. Many of my family member and friends are out and about buying last minute presents, traveling, and spending time with the ones they love. This is a joyous time for many people, even in the worst of times. 2020 has been a very rough year for many people but we still find joy in the little things of life. I hope that many of us have found new joy and new peace in time spent in quiet reflection, solitude, and time, a lot of time, spent with loved ones. As a Christian, I have peace and joy regardless of my situation. I am not saying that I always embrace that peace and joy, but it is always there for me whenever I remember to turn back to Jesus. While this year has been a strange one for me and I could not have predicted many of the paths I have walked this year; it has been a very good year for me. I would expect that it has been a very good year for many Christians who place their hope, joy, peace, and source in God through Jesus. By source I mean our material goods and day to day source of provision. God Warns The Magi And Joseph Acts Fast

In today’s narrative, we see the birth of Jesus, the plot to kill him, His earthly father protecting Him, some gentiles worshiping Him and others pretending to worship Him. That’s a lot of activity and concerns to juggle for a young family, especially given that they were far from their home. This is of course a great time for us and we celebrate the birth of Jesus. But we should never forget the burden that Joseph, Mary and of course Jesus had on their shoulders. I believe that little baby Jesus was unaware of what lay before Him, as were Mary & Joseph not fully aware of their futures but even at the time of Jesus’ birth, forces were seeking to kill Jesus forcing Mary and Joseph to act to keep their precious child safe. So what were these forces and who were these gentiles? Well . . . When Obedience Costs You Your Reputation

The Christmas story starts with a moment that would break most people; Joseph learns Mary is pregnant before they live together, and everything in his world points to betrayal. We read Matthew 1:18–25 out loud in both the King James Version and the NIV, then pause long enough to feel the tension that often gets edited out of nativity scenes. Jesus’ birth is worth celebrating, but it also marks the beginning of his earthly path toward the cross and our salvation. What grips us most is Joseph’s response. He has cultural permission to expose Mary and protect his own name, yet he chooses a quiet divorce because he refuses to shame her. That mercy becomes the doorway for God’s guidance, as an angel appears in a dream and tells Joseph not to fear, to take Mary as his wife, and to name the child Jesus. We also talk about Emmanuel, “God with us,” and what it means to trust God when you can’t make everyone else understand what you know. We don’t skip the hard part: the angel speaks to Joseph, not to the neighborhood. Obedience can cost your reputation, and faithful people often carry burdens nobody applauds. We end by giving Joseph his due as an ordinary, hardworking man in extraordinary circumstances, and by thanking the fathers and stepfathers who quietly provide, protect, and put their families first. Be A Living Sermon

Genealogies are easy to skip, but they can change how you see Jesus and yourself. We open Matthew 1:1–6 & 16–17 tracing lineages from Abraham to David to Christ, then we turn to Hebrews 1:1–5 to hear the bigger news, God has spoken to us by His Son. That combination gives us a sharp picture of Jesus’ true humanity and His divine authority, not as abstract doctrine, but as a foundation you can stand on when your week gets noisy. From there, we get personal about identity and purpose. If we accept Christ, we’re not just inspired by a story, we’re adopted into God’s family, with real access to God through Jesus. A Deadly Lie

Two scenes sit back to back in Acts, and the contrast is hard to ignore. First, a community of believers lives with real unity: one heart, one mind, open hands, and a simple goal of making sure no one among them lacks basic needs. Then, almost immediately, a married couple brings a gift that looks generous on the outside but is built on a lie and the consequences are shocking. If you’ve ever felt confused or disturbed by Acts 5, you’re not alone, and we slow down long enough to hear what the text is actually saying. We read Acts 4:32-37 and Acts 5:1-11 and talk through the early church’s radical sharing, the role of leaders in protecting unity, and why Barnabas stands out as “son of encouragement.” From there we face the story of Ananias and Sapphira: not a warning about failing to donate enough, but a warning about fraud, deceit, and performing holiness for status. Peter’s questions make it clear they had choices. What they chose was image over integrity and praise over truth. We also connect the lesson to everyday Christian life: generosity, service, and church giving can become a stage if we’re not careful. 1 Corinthians 13:3 presses the point that God weighs the heart behind the gift, not just the gift itself. If the motive is pride, the sacrifice may impress people while still missing what God desires. The invitation is to do good with love, honesty, and the furtherance of God’s kingdom as the goal. Living In Love

Hey there, and welcome!
