Accessibly Ever After

Ashton McGrady & Kailey Waskall

Accessibly Ever After is a beauty and lifestyle podcast reimagining makeup, skincare, and cosmetic design through an accessibility-first lens. Created by disabled creators and accessibility advocates, Ashton McGrady & Kailey Waskall, this show exists because too many beauty products still aren’t designed for real bodies, real hands, or real lived experiences. We’re here to change that. Each week, we review makeup and skincare products, break down what makes packaging accessible (or inaccessible), celebrate thoughtful design wins, and share practical ways to adapt beauty routines for disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent makeup lovers. From easy-open packaging and grip-friendly tools to formulation, usability, and inclusive design, we go beyond trends to talk about what actually works. Once a month, we release a minisode featuring guests from the beauty industry, accessibility experts, and individuals who creatively adapt products and routines to fit their unique needs. Our community helps guide the conversation. Follow us on Instagram @AccessiblyEverAfter to submit questions, share accessibility wins or frustrations, and help shape future episodes. All products and resources mentioned are linked in the show notes.

    Crown Collective 👑: Lucy E.

In this episode, we're joined by Lucy Edwards, award-winning blind broadcaster, content creator, and founder of Etia London, for a conversation about accessible beauty, disability identity, and what it means to build a beauty industry that truly includes everyone. Lucy shares her journey of gradually losing her sight as a child and teenager, navigating the emotional upheaval of going blind during a formative period of her life, and finding her way toward a creative career after leaving law school. Along the way, she opens up about rediscovering makeup, rebuilding her confidence, and holding onto the parts of herself that made her feel most like her. We talk about why beauty still mattered to Lucy after losing her sight, from learning to apply makeup through audio-described tutorials with the help of her sister, Alice, to challenging the assumption that blind and disabled people shouldn't care about their appearance. Lucy reflects on how her relationship with beauty has evolved, finding freedom in dressing and expressing herself for her own enjoyment rather than external expectations, and learning to trust her own preferences in a world that constantly tells us how we're supposed to look. Lucy takes us behind the scenes of her work with Pantene, where her relationship with the brand's global accessibility lead grew from sharing feedback into becoming its first visually impaired ambassador, helping bring accessible packaging innovations like NaviLens codes to life. We also dive into the creation of Etia London, the accessible cosmetics brand she founded to help blind and disabled people navigate their makeup bags independently. From the financial realities of inclusive product development to the tactile details, packaging choices, and community feedback that shaped the launch, Lucy explains why accessibility and beautiful design should never be mutually exclusive. Listen now and start seeing beauty differently. Am I Disabled Enough? & Other Unnecessary Existential Crises

Disability imposter syndrome, beauty launches, and finding your perfect shower chair? We’ve got a LOT to talk about. Kailey and Ashton are back with an honest check-in about illness, doomscrolling, and the all-too-familiar feeling of wondering whether you’re “disabled enough.” They unpack what it can feel like to navigate disability spaces online, why some disabilities seem more recognizable or “palatable” than others, and how we can make room for different experiences and support needs without questioning our own. Then it’s time to talk beauty, because the industry has been BUSY. From About Face Glow Orbs and ACOTAR x Fine'ry fragrances to Sulwhasoo’s ginseng mask, Phlur’s Heavy Cream perfume, the unexpected Buldak x Glow Recipe collab, BÉIS x Rare Beauty, and Danessa Myricks’ Lightwork 8 palette, Kailey and Ashton are breaking down the latest launches through an accessibility lens. Which packaging gets a gold star for thoughtful design? And which products leave them asking a few questions? Ashton and Kailey tackle a question that can make a HUGE difference in everyday life: how do you choose the right shower chair? From transfer benches to backless stools and chairs with backs, they get into the things worth considering when finding an option that fits your needs. Because when it comes to accessibility, one size definitely does NOT fit all. Listen now and start seeing beauty differently. Heads up: Some of the links below are affiliate links. Crown Collective 👑: Sarah Todd H.

In this episode, we're joined by Sarah Todd Hammer, a three-time published author, Davidson College graduate, and disability advocate and consultant who has built an audience of 300,000+ across her social platforms, for a conversation about accessible beauty, disability identity, and what real inclusion actually looks like. Sarah Todd shares her childhood diagnosis with acute flaccid myelitis, including the early misdiagnosis of transverse myelitis and the long road to understanding her condition, along with how dance, writing, and friendship helped shape who she became after her life changed overnight. We talk through what disabled grief and disabled joy mean when they exist side by side, and how Sarah Todd learned to live independently in college, from getting dressed to doing her own hair and makeup for the first time, all while founding Davidson's Disability Alliance. Sarah Todd walks us through her adaptive makeup routine, her favorite products, and the packaging details that make or break usability, plus the brands getting it right and the ones still falling short, from her work with Rare Beauty to her go-to, Tilt Beauty. We dig into why testing with disabled users matters, what more inclusive packaging could look like, and why one accessible product in a category isn't enough. She also opens up about navigating public advocacy, setting boundaries in her comment section, and why creators don't owe their audience every piece of their personal life. Chin Straps & Spiders, Oh My!

Season 3 is back, baby, and the beauty industry has been BUSY. Kailey and Ashton kick off Season 3 with a fall-break catch-up before diving headfirst into the beauty stories everyone has been talking about. From Kailey’s new school year and The Beauty Burrow to Ashton’s New York adventures and some very exciting creative wins, there’s plenty to catch up on before the real tea begins. This season premiere takes on eye patch gate, unpacking the Fenty, Glow Recipe, and Huda packaging frenzy and asking whether twist-dispense packaging could actually be an accessibility win. They also get into sustainability, beauty-brand copycats, and the Molly Sims YISE Beauty and Jones Road drama. And because apparently the beauty industry has decided we need a new product every five minutes, Kailey and Ashton are also getting into some of the latest beauty releases, sharing what caught their eye, what has them intrigued, and what has them saying, “Okay, but why and who asked for this???” Listen now and start seeing beauty differently. And They Lived Accessibly Ever After... BRB

In this season two finale of Accessibly Ever After, Ashton and Kailey are getting personal, getting opinionated, and getting ready for a little fall break. Through an accessibility-first lens, they explore what makes a product genuinely usable, from packaging and applicators to grip, texture, size, and the little design choices that can either reduce friction or create an entirely unnecessary battle. They also take on a listener question about toothbrushing, opening up a bigger conversation about sensory needs, neurodivergence, executive functioning, and the reality of keeping up with everyday care when your brain or body does not always cooperate. Rather than focusing on what you should be doing, they share practical, low-pressure ways to make oral hygiene more manageable and meet yourself where you are. As they wrap up season two, Ashton and Kailey reflect on what the podcast has meant to them and look ahead to season three. Accessibly Ever After will be taking a short fall break before returning October 7, so consider this your official permission slip to rest, recharge, and make your own routines work for you. Crown Collective 👑: Bella M.

In this episode of Accessibly Ever After, Kailey and Ashton sit down with Isabella “Bella” Morton-Smith, founder of Flexxi Beauty, an occupational therapist turned makeup artist turned founder who is building adaptive tools for the beauty industry. While studying to be an OT, Bella spent her days working as a makeup artist and began noticing a disconnect: beauty products were becoming more advanced, but the brushes and tools people used to apply them hadn’t really changed in years. That left many people with arthritis, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy, hand injuries, tremors, and other disabilities struggling to access the same beauty experiences. That realization sparked a five-year process of prototyping, testing, and designing alongside people with lived experience, ultimately leading to the Flexxi Brush, featuring a palm strap, magnetic interchangeable heads, and zero required grip or wrist rotation. Bella also shares what it’s like to bridge the worlds of occupational therapy, beauty, disability, and entrepreneurship, the importance of designing with disabled people rather than simply for them, and her vision for the future of adaptive beauty. Deep Into the Well: Dieux Skin

This week on Accessibly Ever After, Kailey and Ashton are doing a deep dive into Dieux Skin, one of the internet's most loved skincare brands. Dieux was founded in 2020 by Charlotte Palermino, Joyce de Lemos, and Marta Freedman. Palermino spent a decade in media before becoming a licensed esthetician and one of skincare's most outspoken myth busters online. De Lemos is Dieux's cosmetic chemist, with a background formulating for brands like SkinCeuticals and Kiehl's. The brand launched with the Forever Eye Mask and built a reputation on transparency, real formulation science, and a "buy less, buy better" philosophy that runs counter to most of the beauty industry. In this episode, Kailey and Ashton talk through why Deliverance Serum has earned a permanent spot in both their routines, and what makes Instant Angel and Skin Mercy so effective for skin barrier support. They also cover why the Baptism and Ethereal cleansers stand out in a category full of stripping, overcomplicated formulas, choosing between fragrance-free and scented cleansers, the reusable Forever Eye Mask, and the accessibility and real-world trade offs of aluminum tubes, pumps, and tins as packaging. Crown Collective 👑: Katy C.

In this episode of Accessibly Ever After, Kailey and Ashton sit down with Katy Cottam, founder and CEO of Luna Daily, the microbiome-balancing body care brand on a mission to bring intimate skin out of the shame spiral and into the same self-care conversation as the rest of the body. A beauty industry veteran with a resume that includes L'Oreal and Charlotte Tilbury, Katy walks us through her journey building Luna Daily from the ground up, the lessons she picked up along the way, and how her own experience with thrush and a disrupted skin microbiome became the spark for a brand that treats intimate skin with the same care as the rest of the body. Kailey and Ashton also dig into what Luna Daily's products look like through an accessibility lens. They talk through the value of multi-use, all-over formulas for anyone managing limited energy or mobility challenges, and how having fewer products and fewer steps can meaningfully reduce friction in a self-care routine. The conversation also gets honest about what happens when showering or basic self-care feels out of reach entirely, and how shame and stigma can compound that struggle, especially in a category that already keeps women in the dark about their own bodies.
