Vampires and the Importance of Human Connection with ICU nurses Brooke and Maeve

Prior to starting this podcast series, I had resolved to quit educating; a personal dispute amongst lifestyle choices turned in to a retaliatory CPS claim (if you can imagine that... the irony, and the sheer entitlement). These were two single adult women, previous friends of mine, who had assumed role of "auntie" to my children. They engaged with my children often, and felt a certain purpose stepping in to these borrowed shoes. They didn't like that my husband and I take a radically wild approach to all things health and wellness and lifestyle, rooted in authentic expression and genuine love, and after a rough verbal exchange about their behaviors in front of my children (encouraged deceit, betrayal, abundant shit talking about the mother in front of the children which was the only part I cared about, etc) they retaliated with a b******t CPS claim (the agent himself even said so - "a waste of resources", as Maeve notes in this podcast). But I wanted to protect my family from haters who targeted me, personally, and yet risked harm to them. And I felt deeply wounded, and deeply betrayed.I had resolved to quit it all, and erased my instagram (SHAMELESS PLUG HERE: IG @RenwellMD), but this interview had long been on the books. It was a big put one foot in front of the other kind of moment. And they did it. They were victorious. These beautiful ICU nurses who I had the pleasure of working with during my time as a Hospitalist breathed pure life in to me. Human connection does that. And it was the entire topic of our podcast episode. We talk about a patient (*TRIGGER WARNING*: DEATH AND DYING / TERMINAL CANCER / GI BLEED) and her deeply impactful decision to forgo surgery on the assurance of just a little more time with her loved ones... Not only did this patient bring us on her journey toward a peaceful death, but she created bonds in the process that would ultimately usher in my rebirth in this very moment. In this very podcast episode. It's so beautiful, it hurts.PURE MEDICINE.I have a lot of gratitude for these two guests, and this moment that is forever recorded in time. Thank you, Brooke and Maeve.
