Nutty & Slutty

Living Life on the Fringe

Isadora spent most of her adult life as a professional escort and even became the “number one” escort in the U.S.  Janine has bipolar disorder and has been hospitalized seven times.  In Nutty (Janine) & Slutty (Isadora), this unlikely duo talks about how they both learned to hide. Janine hid her mind from the world and Isadora hid her body and career.  Empowered by friendship, Isadora and Janine pull back the curtain on sex work, mental health and the secrets women carry.  Once pushed to the fringe of society, Nutty and Slutty are now taking charge — creating a safe place for authentic conversations that may encourage you to step out, speak up and share.

Ep 10: Setting the Stage for Sex Work: What Happens Before He Arrives? | Nutty & Slutty with Isadora O'Boto and Janine Noel | Stories on Sex Work and Mental Illness

This week on Nutty & Slutty, Isadora dishes on all things escorting — behind the scenes.  She reveals what it was like to create intimate encounters: hauling music and mood gear from place to place, softening ugly hotel rooms with sheer force of will, and using charm, timing and hyper-focus to create the illusion of the perfect date.  Janine asks questions about sex work, like how Isadora made it through an hour in one of New York’s seediest hotels? Isadora shares how she summoned Marilyn Monroe as pre-game inspiration, and how her Juilliard acting training informed every move — from sensual technique to emotional performance, and from chemistry to cash — of course, the one detail that turned something consensual and beautiful into something illegal.  Smart, sultry and a little outrageous, this episode is all about what happens behind the curtain. Ep 9: Psychic Gifts or Psychosis? Janine and Isadora Explore the Thin Line Between Imagination and Hallucination

Can heightened sensitivity be a gift — or can it tip into something dangerous?  In this episode, Janine and Isadora dive into the strange, fascinating and sometimes frightening space where heightened spiritual sensitivity, creativity and mental health collide.  What begins with a humorous confession about Janine avoiding antique shops quickly opens into a conversation about how both Isadora and Janine share a strong intuitive sense of the energetic world. For Janine, a deep sense of energy and profound spiritual experiences once pulled her into a dangerous spiral.  Now she uses self-talk to keep herself grounded from psychotic flashbacks at the grocery store. Isadora reflects on her experiences sensing unexplained energies since childhood, as well as on how creativity and storytelling can shape our interpretation of life’s most intense moments. Together they explore the thin line between imagination, intuition, and psychosis — and how self-awareness, humor and reality checks help keep them balanced. It’s a conversation that moves from Trader Joe’s to thrift stores, to energy healing, spiritual encounters and the creative mind, all with the raw honesty and wit listeners have come to expect from Nutty and Slutty. Ep 8: Sexy Stars: Can Astrology Predict Who Sees An Escort?

When Isadora and her escort friends gather data on client zodiac signs, the results feel far from coincidental.  Which signs most often seek intimacy with an escort?  Why does one sign almost never show up?  Can you predict the man in your life's tendency to pay for forbidden sex ... just by his sign? And what about the escorts in the agency?  Which women under which signs are the most popular escorts?  Isadora shares a humorous story of data and discovery, and whether she feels birthdays, patterns, and signs held some validity in her work ... or not.  This is a fun one.  Just know your love's sign before you listen. Ep 7: Role Reversal: Janine in Stilettos and Isadora Talks Mental Health

Dreams of a big break often collide with the real world, where bodies are struck by illness and where casting calls mean vying with your dopplegangers for the same spot on a hit TV show. These are Janine and Isadora’s “almost moments” — where Janine dreams of a chance to act Off-Broadway and Isadora almost lands a role on LA Law. Janine, who has Crohn’s disease, writes and performs a monologue in Pieces (of) Ass about sexy women sharing their innermost thoughts. Her heavy illness monologue about the grim reality of living with a stigmatized disease is off-tone from the raunchy and lighthearted cast, but she does it for the inspiring audience connection after each show.   Isadora’s network odyssey reshapes her craft, confidence and sense of self.  Following the path to a major TV role on LA Law, she endures callback after callback and discovers the riddle of “type” — eccentric, off-center, not conventionally castable. The part ultimately goes elsewhere, but the clarity sticks: better choices, sharper auditions, and a voice strong enough to carry through the No.  This is how two missed big breaks shaped Isadora and Janine.   Send us Fan Mail Isadora O’Boto (co-host) is a Juilliard Drama grad. Ep 6: Before Life as an Escort, She Believed Talent Was Enough

Before Isadora became an escort, she spent four years in one of the most prestigious acting conservatories in the world.  At Juilliard, she endured the emotional whiplash of acceptance and rejection, and the relentless pressure that defines an actor’s life.  She shares how she prepared for auditions, the roles she gravitated toward, and the mentors who helped guide her through the highs and lows of a high-stakes artistic path. But this isn’t just a story about talent and ambition. Isadora speaks candidly about her struggles with body image and an eating disorder during her training — and what it felt like to spend four years rehearsing and performing, only to confront an industry obsessed with attractiveness.  (In Hollywood terms: “Is she f#@kable?”)  After heartbreak at her graduation showcase leaves her without an agent or a clear career path, she is forced to reckon with both rejection and reinvention. Ep 5: Flexible Schedules, Fragile Minds, Unbreakable Dreams

Have you ever gone all-in on a dream?  For Janine and Isadora, it wasn’t a choice to commit to the acting dream, but a deep knowing that acting was the only profession they were cut out to do.  When bipolar disorder would take Janine to terrible lows, the idea that she could still be an actress gave her hope and comfort every time she was discharged from the psych ward.  And when the world told her that she had to put the dream aside to improve her mental health, she refused to listen.  When Isadora graduated from Juilliard, her identity as a performer had taken root.  Her training proved she was an actor, one of the top young actresses in the country.  But the logistics of fighting for a dream were nearly impossible. Negotiating with bosses to run out on auditions, and being ready to do a show at the drop of a hat, made her flexible escort schedule the best fit for a big dream. Ep 4: So You Want to Be An Actress?

For Isadora and Janine, their first stage was their living room rug.  At age seven, Isadora was writing stories and dreaming of living inside them.  By age eight. Janine was obsessed with Annie and had Broadway dreams.  Coming from families that didn’t know how actors became actors, both configured loose game plans as undergrads to get closer to careers.  When Isadora’s acceptance to Juilliard makes her mother worry about the financial toll, her insight allows her to press on. It wasn’t movie star dreams but a true love of the craft that anchored them both, for a while. Send us Fan Mail Isadora O’Boto (co-host) is a Juilliard Drama grad. Ep 3: How Becoming an Escort Changed My Future

Financial pressure after graduating from prestigious Juilliard with an acting degree pushed Isadora from juggling multiple jobs to an interview to be an escort.  Isadora walks through her first days while she tries to reconcile her identity with financial survival.  As Isadora sees the sex work industry more clearly, she understands what it can offer in concrete terms: time, stability and a sense of control.  Her resilience is far from moral collapse and rather a savvy strategy to stay afloat. Ep 2: Bipolar in College: How Depression, Mania and Psychosis Sidelined My Life

By the end of freshman year, Janine’s persistent depression worsens into insomnia, loss of appetite, distorted thinking, and mania.  Not yet diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Janine pursues her drama degree, deeply clinging to the belief that being a successful actress will cure her mind. Instead, she deteriorates into psychosis and feels compelled to perform for an invisible “master camera” in which she is the main character, continuously being watched.  With antidepressant medication starts and stops, and frightening therapy, Janine soon has suicidal ideation.  She calls the police, on herself.  This episode focuses on warning signs, support, and how a hospitalization and family silence planted the seed of stigma and shame.
