Imagination Draw Along is an intentionally calm and low stimulation show for kids who want to draw. I'll guide young artists through drawing prompts, telling stories and sharing history about the topics we draw. Kids are encouraged to use their imaginations and make decisions as they draw. One of the goals is to build self-confidence because we know there's no wrong way to do art! Hi, I’m your host, Aunt Dewey. I’m a former New York City kindergarten teacher. Now I work in tech teaching adults how to use various software, platforms, and programs. I started Imagination Draw Along because I think a low-stim, screen-free experience is good for kids and aspiring artists. We move slowly on purpose. I encourage listeners to make their own artistic choices as they follow along. It’s a light hearted show that helps build critical thinking skills by guiding the imagination through wonder.     Let's DRAW what you might have looked like in the 1980s [bonus episode]

    Today I want to draw a self portrait of what you might have looked like in the 1980s. In this silly, time traveling episode, we'll draw pictures of ourselves with some big hair, shoulder pads, and the artists choice between high waist bluejeans or parachute pants. I'll tell you about what the 80's were like, even though my personal 80s experience was spend being a baby. I wanted to do this bonus episode to meet a recent online trend with creativity instead of instant gratification. While I would never bore a young artist with my thoughts generative AI safety on this show, I did share some thoughts on the website for the adults. Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today: How are the 80s different than today and how are they the same? Why do grown ups like to tell stories about the past?The 80s were about 40 years in the past.     Let's draw a mama duck floating with her ducklings

    Today I want to draw a mama duck floating on the water with 2 baby ducklings. One duckling will be following in line, and one duckling will be being silly with their face down in the water and tail feathers in the air. We'll talk about drawing things that are the same shape but different size, and the same shape and size but from a different point of view. Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today: Why is it sometimes more tricky to draw from a different point of view? If you were a ducking, would you like swimming in the line? Or dunking your head in the water and sticking your tail feathers out?What makes ripples happen in the water?     Let's draw a horse munching some hay (artist submitted idea!)

    Today I want to draw a horse munching some hay, hanging out with other barnyard friends. We'll draw a happy horse with some hay in her mouth, and a hay bale. We'll make sure the horse has a 2 friends: a pig and a goat. Of course, it's your artist choice to add more animals. This episode idea was submitted by an artist. Thank you Sophia!     Let's draw Dolly Parton and talk about role models

    Today I want to draw Dolly Parton because she's an artist on my mind. We'll draw her big hair and happy face, her fancy colorful dress, her high heeled cowgirl boots, and some accessories that represent the things she liked to do like sing and share books. We'll also talk about why I think she is a good role model and how music can help us feel better when we miss someone. In this episode I mentioned her program, The Imagination Library.     Let's draw 2 ballerinas--one leaping and one twirling

    Today I want to draw 2 ballerinas. We'll draw them both in classic tutus--you choose the color. We'll draw one ballerina twirling fast, and one leaping long. We'll make sure they're wearing their pointe shoes.     Let's draw a firetruck with all the lights and gadgets

    Today I want to draw a firetruck. We'll draw a big one with a place for the drivers, a place for gauges, and the big long back for the hose, the extra compartments, and the ladder. Of course we'll add flashing lights on top. We'll also talk about how emergency signals like sirens and alarms can be loud--but they're there to help us. Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today: Why do firefighters have to learn so much to be ready to fight fires?Are you the type of artist you likes to draw very accurately, very abstractly, or both?How can you make sure your family is prepared during an emergency?If you like this one and want to try more fire safety, try drawing a firefighter.     Let's draw a giant ice cream sundae

    Today I want to draw a big giant crazy ice cream sundae. We'll start with a fancy dish, then add classic toppings like a banana. chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and of course, your artist choice of any toppings you can think of. Drawing sprinkles reminded me of the famous pointillism artwork of Georges Seurat, so I talked a bit about his work and his artist choice to use dots. I'll show you a picture of his most famous painting on my blog. Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today: Ice cream is sooo good.     Let's draw two crabby crabs crab-walking on the beach

    Today I want to draw 2 crabby crabs crab-walking on the beach. We'll draw some ocean waves, and 2 crabs with very grumpy faces. This will be filled with a few crab facts, as well tips on how to rescue ourselves from crabby feelings. We'll talk a little bit about taking a deep breath when we feel crabby. And we'll talk about where crabs take deep breaths--under water AND on land!
