The Age of Error: Net Zero, Expertise & the West’s Undoing - Rupert Darwall - TBS, Episode 37

In this episode of The Brownstone Show, Jeffrey Tucker interviews London-based author Rupert Darwall about his forthcoming Encounter Books title The Age of Error and the West’s Undoing — the third volume after The Age of Global Warming and Green Tyranny. Tucker recalls ice-age drills that became warming sermons, then “climate change”; a friendship that ended over a modest doubt; and how COVID made the expert-cartel thesis believable. Climatologists, he says, occupied the same throne epidemiologists held in 2020. Darwall starts with Mary Douglas and Aaron Wildavsky: elites decide what counts as risk. Environmentalism borrowed civil-rights moral absolutism after Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring; power co-opted the movement and capitulated. The book’s clash is geopolitical. A planetary-catastrophe vision requires the whole world to act. China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and much of Africa will carbonize first. Subscribe to the green vision and you neither cool the planet nor keep the reflexes to treat a rival as a rival — you get a climate G-2 instead. He dates the “age of error” after the 2006 St. Petersburg G8 energy-security principles, a document Western archives memory-holed. Japan has been the most climate-skeptical G7 nation since Kyoto. Politics led the science. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists ran dozens of climate pieces before COVID and few on lab-leak risk — including a 2012 paper putting a major leak-driven pandemic at roughly once every 12.8 years, most likely SARS. After the outbreak, Charles, Boris Johnson, and the Pope reached for nature and climate; the pandemic agreement names climate, not labs. They turn to Fauci and Morens’s 2020 Cell paper on spillover and reconstructing society; EU net zero as a legal lock; Britain’s record residential electricity prices and first real fight over the 2008 Climate Change Act; and the cost of welding science to government — censorship, lost trust, and virologists protecting gain-of-function work rather than the public. Fauci left with a pardon. Tedros expects the U.S. back in the WHO. Key Topics Covered: * Ice-age scares, climate as tribal religion, and expert cartels after COVID * Douglas, Wildavsky, Silent Spring, and how elites define risk * Why the Global South will not join Western decarbonization * China, a climate G-2, and lost geopolitical antibodies * Japan’s distance from the G7 consensus and the 2006 G8 document * Politics leading IPCC science; lab-leak papers the “concerned” never wrote * Zoonosis, climate, and the Fauci–Morens reconstruction of society * Why EU net zero is nearly impossible to repeal * UK power prices, the Climate Change Act, and a first real debate * Censorship, lost trust, and science as doctrine * Gain-of-function culture vs. post-1945 physics * Fauci’s pardon, no China reckoning, and the WHO waiting out Trump Rupert Darwall is a Cambridge-trained economist and historian and author of the climate-and-power trilogy from Encounter Books. Jeffrey Tucker ties the green expert regime to the COVID expert regime — same structure, different catastrophe. Essential viewing for anyone who watched “follow the science” in 2020 and now sees the same governing codependence aimed at energy, industry, and dissent. 👉 Subscribe to The Brownstone Show for more fearless conversations on liberty, ideas, and cultural renewal. Dangerous Misinformation: Ivermectin, Mandates & Doctor-Patient War - Mary Talley Bowden - TBS Ep 36

Jeffrey Tucker interviews Houston ENT Dr. Mary Talley Bowden, author of Dangerous Misinformation: The Virus, the Treatments, and the Lies. Tucker frames COVID as a scandal that shattered the doctor-patient relationship: governments and hospitals prescribed one product, banned off-label care, and punished physicians who treated the sick. Bowden was a quiet solo specialist until Houston Methodist — the first hospital in the country to mandate COVID shots, on April 1, 2021, five months ahead of the Biden administration — suspended her privileges and told the world she was spreading “dangerous misinformation.” She learned of the suspension from a Houston Chronicle reporter. CNN and the Washington Post followed. After a weekend “in a fetal position,” she resigned, held a press conference, and sued. The Methodist defamation fight ended badly on a technical error after her first lawyer had a stroke. She paid the hospital more than $166,000 in legal fees; they later chased interest after a post on X, then dropped it. A clearer win came with Drs. Paul Marik and Robert Apter against the FDA: the agency took down the viral “you are not a horse” tweet and related website claims after the Fifth Circuit held that the FDA may inform, not practice medicine. Off-label prescribing stayed legal; the smear did not. Bowden describes the fall 2021 pile-on — FDA tweet, federal mandate, medical boards — and her ongoing suit against multiple state boards and the Federation of State Medical Boards. Two physicians in that case lost their licenses. She treated more than 6,000 COVID patients. Those who got early treatment, she says, survived. Hydroxychloroquine vanished from Texas pharmacies the day after Trump mentioned it. Monoclonal antibodies worked until they were pulled as mandates arrived. Ivermectin required an “underground railroad” of independent pharmacies; a 25,000-response poll found 52 percent sourcing the animal formulation from feed stores. Tucker recounts his own January 2022 prescription from Pierre Kory that no New England pharmacy would fill. They discuss why alternatives — natural immunity, early drugs, antibodies — had to disappear if the shot was to be the only path; why the Great Barrington Declaration provoked such fury; childhood COVID shots still recommended by the AAP in 26 states (three doses by nine months) despite ~10 percent uptake; informed consent when the patient is a child; and how an introvert became a public fighter because Methodist created the following it meant to crush. Key Topics Covered: * Houston Methodist’s April 1, 2021 mandate and the public shaming of a solo ENT * $166,000 paid to the hospital, the interest fight, and a small late win * FDA horse tweet, Apter v. HHS, and the limit on agency medical advice * Medical-board campaign against dissenting doctors and licenses lost * 6,000+ early-treated patients and the disappearance of HCQ, monoclonals, and ivermectin * Feed-store ivermectin, pharmacy fear, and the need to rebrand a cheap, long-used drug * Why every alternative to mRNA — including natural immunity — had to be shut down * Childhood schedules, AAP vs. CDC, and consent that is not the child’s * Dangerous Misinformation as a novel-paced chronicle of the COVID years * Texas as the test case: SXSW, the Houston Rodeo, and Methodist as the national template * An introvert forced into public life by institutions that would not listen Dr. Mary Talley Bowden is a Stanford-trained otolaryngologist in private practice in Houston, founder of Americans for Health Freedom, and a Senior Fellow with the Independent Medical Alliance. Jeffrey Tucker connects her case to the broader destruction of medical ethics, free speech, and constitutional limits during COVID. This is essential viewing for anyone who still thinks the doctor-patient relationship survived 2020–2022 intact — or who wonders why a Nobel-era antiparasitic is still called horse paste in 2026. Kill Switch: Viruses, Gain of Function & the Road to COVID - Dr. Richard Burt - TBS, Ep 35

In this episode of The Brownstone Show, Jeffrey Tucker interviews Dr. Richard K. Burt, recently retired Northwestern professor, Scripps faculty member, and pioneer of hematopoietic stem cell transplant for autoimmune diseases, about his book Kill Switch: The History of How Viruses Shaped Humanity and Led to COVID-19. Dr. Burt wrote the book for lay readers — from smallpox through the molecular-biology revolution after 1960 — after a Chinese postdoc told him in late December 2019 or early January 2020 that Shi Zhengli’s bat-coronavirus website had been scrubbed overnight. Burt pulled NIAID grants routed through EcoHealth Alliance to Wuhan, saw gain-of-function work that made non-pathogenic viruses infect humans, and in mid-to-late January 2020 briefed a major-network broadcaster. The reply was essentially “so what?” Vaccines, Burt argues, have been a genuine “kill switch” for pandemics and have saved hundreds of millions of lives. The problem is the new project: engineering pathogens that never existed on Earth without inserting a molecular suicide gene or other containment — technology Burt himself published decades ago — and without serious oversight. He walks through Fouchier’s 2012 H5N1 work, Fauci’s solo-authored 2012 paper claiming the benefits of such experiments outweigh the risk of a pandemic, the Baric–Shi receptor-binding-domain collaboration in Nature Medicine, and the later cover story that pointed away from a lab the NIH had funded. The Bayh-Dole Act turning tax-funded university research into pharma licenses while schools keep charity tax status; unlimited PAC spending that can end a senator who challenges industry; FDA-permitted direct-to-consumer drug ads that underwrite corporate media on both the left and the right. Burt’s own MS transplant work — one-time, highly effective, no patent — is drowned out by infusion drugs that can bill tens or hundreds of thousands a year. He compares COVID-era messaging to Hearst–Pulitzer yellow journalism after the USS Maine, and insists the fix is not hunting one villain but tracing the financial currents that keep the same mistakes alive. Key Topics Covered: * Why COVID exposed a generation that did not understand viruses or human–microbe coexistence * December 2019: Shi Zhengli’s site taken down; Burt reads EcoHealth–Wuhan gain-of-function grants * January 2020 approach to a major corporate network — and the non-response * Vaccines as a historic kill switch versus engineering brand-new human pathogens * Why a molecular suicide gene or similar safeguard was never required * Fouchier’s H5N1 work, the 2012 pause, and Fauci’s “benefits outweigh a pandemic” paper * Baric, Shi, receptor binding domains, and the furin cleavage site debate * Bayh-Dole, PACs, and direct-to-consumer advertising as three pillars of capture * Why a proven, cost-effective stem-cell transplant for MS stays obscure * Yellow journalism from the Maine to corporate COVID coverage * Follow the money instead of pinning everything on one official Dr. Richard K. Burt brings decades as a transplant pioneer, NIH-trained physician, Fulbright Scholar, and author of Everyday Miracles. Jeffrey Tucker ties the viral history and the lab-research record to the institutional failures Brownstone has documented since 2020.This is essential viewing for anyone who wants a clinician’s, grant-reader’s account of how virus history, molecular engineering, and financial incentives converged on COVID-19 — and what a real kill switch would have required. 👉 Subscribe to The Brownstone Show for more fearless conversations on liberty, ideas, and cultural renewal. What Did Fauci Mean by “Game On”? - Jeffrey Tucker - The Brownstone Show, Episode 33

In this episode of The Brownstone Show, Jeffrey Tucker walks through his detailed analysis of Anthony Fauci’s diaries and the precise sequence of decisions that shaped the entire COVID era. Drawing on the newly released documents, Tucker reconstructs Fauci’s dual-track strategy: an initial “Plan A” to frame the emerging pathogen as a severe flu season, followed by the decisive “Game On” pivot on January 26, 2020, the day the first U.S. case was announced in Seattle. From that moment, an audacious cover-up plan unfolded—suppressing the lab-leak hypothesis, orchestrating a WHO junket to Wuhan, generating maximal fear to secure emergency-use authorization for unproven mRNA technology, attacking seroprevalence studies that revealed widespread prior immunity, censoring natural-immunity and early-treatment discussions, and converting potential culpability for gain-of-function research into the public image of the savior who delivered the shot. Key Topics Covered: * October 2019 Military Games in Wuhan and early knowledge of a lab-related pathogen * January 3 diary entry and the launch of Plan A: warn of a catastrophic flu season * January 10 publication of the viral sequence and immediate Moderna collaboration with Barney Graham * CDC push-back against the flu narrative and the unraveling of Plan A * January 26 “Game On!!!” entry after the first U.S. case—the decisive shift to Plan B * Five-part cover-up: Proximal Origin paper, WHO China trip arranged via Trump-to-Xi request, fear generation for EUA, suppression of natural immunity, and censorship of critics * Santa Clara seroprevalence study by Jay Bhattacharya and the ferocious media smear campaign * Why an mRNA shot against a rapidly mutating respiratory virus was never going to work—and why Fauci knew it * nSuppression of hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, and other traditional therapeutics * Boosters as the endless patch for a failed product * Complete absence of sympathy in the diaries for lockdown victims or the vaccine-injured * The broader constellation of military intelligence, Big Tech, pharma, and media capture Jeffrey Tucker provides the clearest chronological map yet of how private knowledge of a lab origin, institutional self-protection, and the desperate need for a technological “cure” produced the most disruptive public-health regime in modern history. The diaries, read against the surrounding evidence, make the previously chaotic timeline suddenly coherent. This is essential viewing for anyone seeking a coherent, document-based explanation of why businesses, churches, and schools were closed, why natural immunity was denied, why early treatments were banned, and why an experimental platform was forced on the world. State-Private Collaboration, COVID Technocracy & Lost Rituals: Tom Harrington - TBS - Ep 29

In this episode of The Brownstone Show, Jeffrey Tucker interviews Tom Harrington, author of Staying Human in a Soulless Age, for a deep exploration of how the state has always relied on private sector collaboration for power—not just through taxes and debt, but through mercantilist alliances that shape society. From Frédéric Bastiat’s observation that the state has no resources of its own to the munitions industries of WWI (”Merchants of Death”), they trace this model through history and into the 21st century. The COVID period stands as the ultimate example: tech companies enabling censorship, pharma driving novel gene technologies, media amplifying fear, and figures like Tomas Pueyo (CEO of an online learning platform) profiting enormously from lockdowns. They discuss the invasion of bodies and minds by technocracy, the destruction of social rituals (especially death rituals and adolescent socialization), the hedonic treadmill of digital “time-saving” tools, and the simplification vs. synthesis crisis in modern thinking and academia. Harrington emphasizes the importance of intuition, dialogue, encounters, and rituals for human flourishing, while Tucker highlights growing resistance—from flock cameras to data centers. This conversation calls for recovering genuine human connections amid soulless systems. Key Topics Covered: * Frédéric Bastiat: The state has no resources of its own; everything comes from the private sector * Historical state-private collaboration: Mercantilism, WWI munitions (”Merchants of Death”), and the warfare state * COVID as technocratic pinnacle: Tomas Pueyo, Big Tech censorship, pharma, media, and profit-driven lockdowns * The hedonic treadmill: Technology promising more time but delivering distraction and dehumanization * Destruction of rituals: Death rituals, adolescent flirting/socialization, and their role in human development * Academic silos, simplification vs. synthesis, and the loss of holistic, intuitive thinking * Surveillance state: Flock cameras, biometric data, eminent domain for AI data centers * Staying Human in a Soulless Age: Reclaiming dialogue, encounters, and meaning in a fiat culture * Growing popular resistance and the potential turning point against technocracy Tom Harrington brings decades of observation on power, culture, and the human condition. Jeffrey Tucker connects these threads to the broader fight against administrative overreach and for genuine liberty. Essential for anyone concerned with technocracy, the erosion of human rituals and connections, the failures of COVID policy, or how to stay human in an increasingly soul crushing age.
