EP 29: Zombie Apocalypse: You Can Only Take 2 Guns… What Are You Choosing?

The zombie apocalypse has started. You have two days before it reaches you. You can only take two guns. What are you grabbing? In this episode of Beyond the Target, Rob and Jeromy tackle the classic gun-owner hypothetical: What firearms would you actually want during a zombie apocalypse? But instead of immediately choosing anything we want, we start with a much harder scenario. You can only use the guns and ammunition you actually own right now. That means ammo stockpiles, magazine capacity, suppressors, reliability, portability, optics, and even how easy a cartridge might be to find suddenly matter a lot more than simply choosing the most powerful rifle. Rob leans heavily toward stealth and ammo availability, while Jeromy realizes very quickly that owning accurate long-range rifles doesn't help much if you only have a few dozen rounds loaded for them. The conversation covers: .22 LR5.56 / .2239mm300 BlackoutAR-15sSuppressorsShotgunsLong-range riflesMagazine capacityHuntingStealthAmmo availabilityReliabilityOptics and battery lifeThen we change the rules. Now ammo isn't a problem. You can still only use guns you already own, but you've got enough ammunition to survive roughly three months. Rob chooses a 7 Moses for long-range protection and hunting, paired with a 300 Blackout AR pistol for closer work and suppressed shooting. Jeromy goes with his 6.5 Creedmoor and a 12-gauge shotgun, valuing the Creedmoor's familiar long-range performance and the shotgun's versatility with everything from birdshot to slugs. Finally, we combine arsenals and figure out what we'd carry if we were surviving together. Now we want to hear yours: Scenario One: The apocalypse starts today. What two guns are you taking based on your current ammo supply? Scenario Two: Ammo is unlimited. EP 28: The $3,000 Rifle Challenge | What Would YOU Build?

You have exactly $3,000 to build an entire rifle setup from scratch. What do you buy? In this episode of Beyond the Target, Rob and Jeromy take on the $3,000 Rifle Challenge. Each of us secretly put together a complete rifle setup—including the rifle, optic, mount, rings, bipod/support, and accessories—then revealed our choices to each other. The twist is that we weren't building for exactly the same purpose. Jeromy wanted a rifle that was 60% long range and 40% hunting, while Rob built primarily for shooting beyond 1,000 yards with enough versatility to still hunt if needed. Somehow, we both independently chose 7 PRC. The builds include: Bergara B14 HMR Carbon WildernessSeekins Precision Havak PH3TRACT Toric UHDArken EP5 Gen 2Accu-Tac bipodCVLIFE bipodRear bagsRings, rails, levels, and other accessoriesThe bigger discussion becomes less about the specific products and more about where the money should go. Should you spend more on the rifle? Should you spend more on the optic? Where is it okay to save money? And how much should your intended purpose influence every decision? By the end, we score each other's builds based on how well they matched the original mission. Rob's setup finishes around a 9/10, while Jeromy's lands around a 7/10 after realizing he compromised in a few places that didn't match his stated long-range priority. Now we want to hear yours. EP 27: What Is the BEST 30 Cal Cartridge?

It's time for the 30 caliber cartridge comparison. In this episode of Beyond the Target, Rob and Jeromy compare seven different 30 cal cartridges to see what you're really getting when you move from classics like the .308 Winchester and .30-06 into cartridges like 300 Win Mag, 300 PRC, 300 Norma, and the Moses Wildcats. Cartridges discussed: .308 Winchester.30-06 Springfield300 Win Mag300 PRC300 Norma308 Moses308.6 MosesUsing a 178gr Hornady ELD-M as the common bullet, they compare velocity, energy, drop, powder charge, powder cost, recoil, efficiency, and overall usefulness. One of the biggest surprises is how similar the magnums look when using the Hornady book data. In the comparison, 300 Win Mag, 300 PRC, and 300 Norma all land at roughly the same 3,100 FPS muzzle velocity, while the 308.6 Moses reaches that same speed using significantly less powder. The discussion also turns into a bigger question: How much extra powder, recoil, and cost is another 300–500 FPS really worth? Then Rob and Jeromy make their picks. With Wildcats included, Rob chooses the 308 Moses, while Jeromy goes with the 308.6 Moses. Remove the Wildcats, and Rob chooses 300 Win Mag while Jeromy takes the .30-06. 🌐 Bald Guys With Gunshttps://www.baldguyswithguns.com 🏆 Evens Challenge Sign-Uphttps://forms.gle/R1xzZt2K3vk2aLwQ6 🔭 Sponsored by TRACT Optics https://tractoptics.com/?ref=BALDGUYSWITHGUNS Use code BALDGUYS for FREE SHIPPING. EP 26: Which 7mm Cartridge Is BEST? We Compare Them

Which 7mm cartridge is actually the best all-around choice? In this episode of Beyond the Target, Rob and Jeromy compare some of the most popular 7mm/.284 cartridges and break down what each one really gives you in terms of velocity, retained energy, bullet drop, recoil, barrel life, powder consumption, cost, and overall efficiency. Cartridges compared: • 7mm-08 Remington• .284 Winchester• .280 Ackley Improved• 7mm Remington Magnum• 7mm PRC• 28 Nosler• 7 Moses The discussion ranges from the underrated capability of the 7mm-08 to why the 7 PRC has become such a strong do-all factory option. We also compare the 7 PRC against the traditional 300 Win Mag, look at what you gain—and give up—with the 28 Nosler, and dig into why the 7 Moses is so efficient for the velocity it produces. By the end, Rob and Jeromy rank the cartridges based on their overall balance of performance and efficiency. With wildcats included, they put the 7 Moses at the top; removing the wildcat, the 7 PRC becomes their overall factory winner, followed by the .280 AI. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌐 Bald Guys With Gunshttps://www.baldguyswithguns.com 🏆 Evens Challenge Sign-Uphttps://forms.gle/R1xzZt2K3vk2aLwQ6 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🔭 Sponsored by TRACT Optics https://tractoptics.com/?ref=BALDGUYSWITHGUNS Use code BALDGUYS for FREE SHIPPING. 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 6.5×47 Lapua, or 6.5 Moses—which one actually makes the most sense? In this episode of Beyond the Target, Rob and Jeromy continue the cartridge comparison series by taking on the 6.5mm/.264 family. Using a 140gr Hornady ELD-M as the common bullet, we compare velocity, retained energy, drop, powder consumption, barrel life, availability, and overall efficiency. And the fastest cartridge isn't necessarily the winner. We get into why the 6.5 Creedmoor remains incredibly difficult to beat, what you gain by stepping up to the 6.5 PRC, where the 6.5×47 Lapua still makes sense, and why we're so interested in the 6.5 Moses. How many rifle owners have a gun capable of shooting 1,000 yards—but nowhere to actually practice?
