RESIDENT EVIL 2026 Fresh from the Theater: Spoiler-Free First Take

Greetings, Boo Believers. In this episode Ronin James and Steph Infection deliver a spoiler-free, out-of-theater first take after seeing Zach Cregger's Resident Evil. They discuss their immediate reactions while driving home, sharing high praise and honest impressions. The hosts describe the film as fast-paced, funny, and scary, praising its balance of horror, humor, and action. They highlight how the movie authentically channels video-game mechanics (leveling up, item finds, realistic player reactions) and commend Austin Abrams and the supporting cast for natural performances. The practical effects, CGI, and gore are noted as effective and fitting for the film’s tone. They also review the 4DX experience as an enhancing, worthwhile option and mention a limited-time T‑Mobile T‑Life $5 ticket perk for opening weekend. While avoiding spoilers, they discuss the film’s potential to launch sequels and its faithful take on early-stage mutations rather than traditional zombies. The episode closes with a reminder that a full spoiler-filled review will follow after they sleep on it, plus standard calls to subscribe, follow, and join their Patreon for ad-free episodes and exclusive content. Their bottom line: they recommend seeing Resident Evil in theaters, and many viewers — gamers or newcomers — should enjoy it.

    DON'T MOVE (2026) — RONIN'S Spoiler-Free Drive-Home Take

Deadsville host Ronin James delivers a spoiler-free, out-of-theater drive-home review of Don't Move (2026), the creature feature adaptation of James Murray's novel. He sets the scene: a church camping trip that runs into a giant prehistoric spider and the usual creature-feature setup of characters getting picked off one by one. Ronin praises the cast—noting solid performances from actors like Tom Cavanaugh and Rob Riggle—but criticizes the adaptation for thin dialogue, predictable character beats, and an overlong setup. He felt the movie spent too much time on human drama and cliché trauma-bonding before the monster becomes a real presence. When the spider does appear, close-up CGI and a few effective jump scares work at times, but many kills happen off-screen or are obscured, reducing the expected visceral creature thrills. Practical effects are present but underwhelming, and the film's suspense and staging in the woods don’t fully capitalize on the premise. Ronin’s takeaway: the movie is middling—watchable but disappointing given the concept and talent involved. He assigns a "splatometer" rating of 3 for on-screen gore and an overall score of 5/10. His recommendation: support horror if you want to, but consider catching it cheaper (midweek discounts) or waiting for streaming. He also notes a possible full spoiler review with co-host Steph Infection once the film is streaming, and encourages listeners to follow Deadsville Horror and Hero Talk for more coverage.
