JJ McCarthy's Development Has Fallen Apart: What Should the Vikings Do Going Forward?

JJ McCarthy’s Development Has Fallen Apart… What Should the Vikings Do Going Forward? The Minnesota Vikings have a serious quarterback situation on their hands, and in my opinion, the JJ McCarthy development process has fallen apart. After going live immediately following Saturday’s preseason game, I wanted to take a deeper look at what went wrong with JJ McCarthy, the Vikings’ quarterback development plan, and what Minnesota should do from here. This isn’t just about one preseason game — it’s about the bigger picture and whether the Vikings have the right plan in place at quarterback heading into the 2026 NFL season. In this video, I break down what I believe the Minnesota Vikings should do in the short term and long term to fix their quarterback situation. With only one preseason game remaining and then a week before the regular season begins, the Vikings have some major decisions to make. Is JJ McCarthy still the quarterback of the future? Should Minnesota continue developing him? Should the Vikings consider moving on? Or is it time to bring in another young quarterback who can develop behind the scenes and give the team some insurance for the future? I’m breaking down the entire situation, giving you my honest and unfiltered opinion, and explaining exactly how I believe the Vikings should handle their quarterback situation going forward. Make sure you jump into the comments and let me know what YOU think. Should the Vikings continue developing JJ McCarthy, move on from him, or take a completely different approach at quarterback? Yes, I understand this is preseason. Yes, I understand we shouldn’t overreact to preseason football. BUT after defending JJ McCarthy for over a year, I have to be honest about what I saw today. I’m disappointed. In this Minnesota Vikings postgame show, we’re breaking down the Vikings vs. Ravens preseason matchup, JJ McCarthy’s performance, the quarterback situation, what went right, what went wrong, and what Minnesota needs to improve before the regular season. We’ll also discuss what this game could mean for the Vikings moving forward, including the quarterback situation, Kyler Murray, the offense, Kevin O’Connell, and the biggest questions facing this team over the next few weeks. This isn't about blindly defending or attacking JJ McCarthy. This is about watching the game, looking at what happened on the field, and having an honest conversation about where the Minnesota Vikings stand right now. I’ve defended McCarthy for over a year, but after this performance, I can’t simply make excuses. I’ll give you my honest thoughts on what I saw and whether this is something Vikings fans should actually be concerned about. Are Roster Concerns Being Ignored!

The Minnesota Vikings quarterback situation is finally settled. Kyler Murray is the team's starting quarterback, and now that the QB competition with J.J. McCarthy is over, it's time to have a much bigger conversation about this roster. Did we spend so much time talking about the quarterback position that we completely glossed over other important positional needs? That's the question I'm asking in this video. One of the biggest concerns right now is the center position. Reports coming out of Minnesota Vikings training camp have raised concerns about Blake Brandel's transition to starting center, including issues with shotgun snaps. Some people may look at that as a minor training camp problem, but the center position is critical to the success of the offense. If the Vikings can't consistently get the football to their quarterback, that's something that needs to be taken seriously. And Blake Brandel isn't the only concern. The Vikings have gone through major changes this offseason, including changes to the front office, coaching staff and player personnel. We've spent so much time discussing Kyler Murray, J.J. McCarthy and the quarterback competition that I believe we've overlooked some of the other areas on this roster that could become major problems during the season. The center position needs to be discussed. The Vikings also need to take a serious look at their rotational edge rusher depth and overall roster depth. The question isn't simply whether Minnesota has talented players — it's whether they have enough depth and stability at the right positions to compete throughout an NFL season. Now that the quarterback situation is settled, what else needs to be addressed? Are the Minnesota Vikings ignoring legitimate roster concerns? Should they be looking for another option at center? Is Blake Brandel really the answer at center? Do the Vikings need more help along the offensive line? Is rotational edge rusher a bigger need than we've been talking about? And did Minnesota do enough this offseason to build a roster capable of competing in 2026? Let's have the tough conversation. This is a full Minnesota Vikings roster discussion covering Blake Brandel, the center position, the offensive line, edge rusher depth, Kyler Murray, J.J. McCarthy and the bigger concerns surrounding this team heading into the 2026 NFL season.
