38: Meet Our EDI Learners: Celebrating Black History Month & Finding Your Voice

This is the official podcast from Technical Education Skills Trust, the operator of London Design & Engineering UTC, LDE UT6th Form, Engineering Skills College, East London Furniture Institute (ELFI), and the Industry & Educators Exchange (IndEX). In this special Black History Month episode of Industry Ready, we're handing the microphones over to four of our incredible learners who are helping to make a difference through our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Society at LDE UTC. Following last week's conversation with our EDI Leads, Gill and Denise, we hear directly from Joel and Aisha in Year 13, Zainab in Year 12, and Kaiden in Year 11. They share why they chose to get involved, what Black History Month means to them personally, and why celebrating different cultures, backgrounds, and identities is so important. Learners and parents/carers will hear how our students are helping to create a college community where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and proud to be themselves. Our learners also share their experiences of organising events such as Culture Day, celebrating their heritage, finding confidence in their identities, and encouraging others to embrace what makes them unique. From sharing personal stories to inspiring younger learners and making sure everyone's voice is heard, this episode highlights the positive impact young people can have when they are allowed to lead and make a difference. It's a wonderful reminder that inclusion isn't just something we talk about at LDE UTC — it's something our learners help bring to life every day! A huge thank you to Joel, Aisha, Zainab, and Kaiden for sharing their experiences and helping to make our college such a special place to belong! 😊 For exclusive content and for a sneak peek behind the scenes, please visit: https://www.industryready.co.uk
