    The Ingrid (Josh and Jess)

Today's episode is brought to you in association with the Strong Coffee Company. Please scroll down to the bottom for your exclusive 20% discount. Listen out for more from the Strong Coffee Company on today's podcast. Today we are joined in the Chatterbox studio by Josh and Jess of The Ingrid Rising UK trio, The Ingrid return with their third single Lullaby - a track that blends dream-pop, shoegaze, and alt-rock textures into something both beautiful and quietly unnerving. Drawing inspiration from artists like The Sundays, Wolf Alice, The Smiths and The Marías, The Ingrid have quickly carved out a sound defined by contrast - where melodic calm meets emotional unease, and softness gives way to something far more complex beneath the surface. Formed at university in Chichester, the trio - Jess Charleslyn, Will Hornsblow and Josh Platt - bring together a unique mix of influences. Charleslyn’s roots as a minimalist singer-songwriter (inspired by early Dodie) have evolved into layered arrangements of vocals, guitar and keys. Hornsblow’s blues-leaning guitar style cuts through the band’s dreamy textures, while Platt approaches drums with a storytelling instinct shaped by classic rock traditions. Their latest single, Lullaby, plays on the very idea its title suggests. Traditionally, a lullaby is meant to comfort - to create a sense of safety. But here, The Ingrid flips that expectation, exploring what happens when that sense of comfort feels performative rather than real. The track dives into themes of emotional illusion and surface-level empathy - the kind of connection that appears deep and sincere yet reveals itself to be something much more fragile. As Charleslyn explains: “It starts with something specific, but it’s not truly autobiographical – it’s more about a type of behaviour people recognise.” Rather than confronting its subject directly, Lullaby exists in a space of quiet awareness - observing the illusion while still engaging with it. The result is a song that feels intimate, ambiguous, and at times uncomfortably familiar. Following previous singles Limerence - a study of obsessive projection - and Mother, which explored memory and perception, Lullaby hints at a deeper thematic thread running through the band’s work. Whether intentional or not, the progression suggests a growing narrative taking shape. With increasing momentum and subtle signs of a debut album in the works, The Ingrid are steadily positioning themselves as one of the most compelling emerging voices in the UK alternative scene. www.theingridband.com Elevate your coffee routine with Strong Coffee Company's "Black" instant blend and lattes.
