Ep 12: A New Chapter For NZ's Oldest Homeopathic Dispensary

What happens when more than 30 years of homeopathic history is entrusted to a new pair of hands? I’m joined by Lynda Royal, homeopath and new owner of Selene Homeopathics, New Zealand’s oldest homeopathic dispensary. Homeopathy is Lynda’s third career. After years in business and web design, she graduated as a homeopath in 2023 and began working one day a week at Selene while building her practice. What started as an opportunity to gain experience unexpectedly led to her becoming the kaitiaki—or custodian—of this much-loved piece of New Zealand’s homeopathic history. In this episode, we discuss: • Lynda’s journey into homeopathy later in life and the realities of building a practice• The history of Selene and how Lynda unexpectedly became its new owner• What it means to be the kaitiaki of thousands of remedies and more than 30 years of history• The difference between acute and chronic homeopathy—and when it’s time to seek professional help• Why Lynda believes homeopathy needs to be simple and accessible for everyday families• The extraordinary care and intention that goes into storing and preparing Selene’s remedies• Home remedy kits and the support Selene provides to families and practitioners• Lynda’s plans for new kits, practitioner services and greater access to acute homeopathic support• How we take homeopathy forward while honouring the foundations laid by those who came before us At the heart of our conversation is a shared question: how do we take homeopathy forward without losing what makes it homeopathy? It’s a conversation about homeopathy, business, legacy and looking forward—and an exciting new chapter for a special part of New Zealand’s homeopathic community. Ep 11: Fever Without Fear | Barbara Roberts - Pharmacist & Homeopath

What if we stopped seeing fever as something to immediately fear—and instead understood what the body is actually trying to do? In this episode, I’m joined by Barbara Roberts, a registered pharmacist and homeopath who brings a fascinating perspective from both conventional and complementary healthcare. Together, we explore one of the things parents often find most challenging: fevers in children. We talk about what a fever is doing in the body, why it can be an important part of the immune response, how to support a child through it, and—just as importantly—when to seek medical help. Barbara also shares her journey from growing up with homeopathy to becoming a pharmacist and later training as a homeopath, and how she brings these two worlds together in her work today. In this episode, we discuss: • What a fever is actually doing in the body and its role in the immune response • Why watching the child, rather than focusing solely on the thermometer, can give us valuable information • Important signs that tell us it's time to seek medical help • Why parental intuition matters when something simply doesn't feel right • Practical ways to keep a feverish child comfortable • Rest, reassurance, skin-to-skin contact and the idea of a child's "right to be sick" • Common homeopathic fever remedies including Aconite, Belladonna and Pulsatilla, and how to tell them apart • How often to repeat a remedy during an acute illness—and when to stop • Barbara's perspective as a pharmacist on paracetamol and ibuprofen • Why the cause or aetiology of an illness can be an important clue when choosing a homeopathic remedy • How conventional medicine and homeopathy can sit alongside one another rather than having to be an either/or choice Barbara and I also share stories from our own families and practices that illustrate just how differently children can experience a fever—and why observing the individual child is so important. Ultimately, Fever Without Fear is about helping parents replace some of the anxiety around fever with knowledge, observation and confidence. Supporting a fever doesn't mean doing nothing. It's about understanding what the body is doing, knowing how to support your child, and recognising when it's time to seek additional help. What can sled dogs racing across the frozen Alaskan wilderness teach us about healing? Stephanie Cork, founder of Wild Remedy, shares her extraordinary journey which took her from New Zealand to Alaska, where she worked with an Iditarod sled dog team in what is often called "The Last Great Race on Earth." What began as a love of dogs became a profound lesson in trust, observation, resilience and the remarkable bond between humans and animals. Together we explore: • Stephanie's unforgettable experience working with Alaskan sled dogs• Why trust and teamwork matter more than dominance when working with animals• How homeopathy can support animals through illness, injury, grief and behavioural challenges• The wisdom animals can teach us about healing, patience and connection• Puppy development, fear stages and common behavioural issues• Why "less is more" when prescribing remedies and using supplements• The relationship between an animal's health and the emotional environment of the family• Fascinating cases—from horses and puppies to fish and even snakes• Why every animal deserves to be treated as an individual This conversation goes far beyond animal health. It's about learning to observe instead of control, listening instead of assuming, and recognising that healing often happens when we meet each individual—human or animal—for who they truly are.
