The 0g-SPOT Podcast

0g Creative, LLC

The 0g-SPOT Podcast is a conversation about sex, intimacy, and what it really means to be human in space. Eric Ingram, a space accessibility advocate and wheelchair user, and Alicia Topolnycky, an intimacy coordinator for 30+ film, TV, and theatre projects, come at the topic from very different angles. That is kind of the point. We talk about the things space agencies do not put in mission briefings. What happens to arousal in microgravity? How does disability change when gravity disappears? What does privacy look like inside a spacecraft? And if millions of people are heading to orbit, are we designing for real humans or just astronauts? It is light. It is curious. Sometimes it is ridiculous. But underneath it all is a real question. If we are expanding into space, how do we bring all of ourselves with us?

What does Star Trek get right about sex in space? In this episode of 0g-SPOT, Eric and Alicia take a detour into science fiction to explore how one of the most influential space franchises of all time has handled intimacy, relationships, and human behavior in orbit. They are joined by Rod Roddenberry, son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, and Garrett Wang, known for his role as Ensign Harry Kim on Star Trek: Voyager, for a wide-ranging conversation that blends fandom, philosophy, and some very real questions about the future of space. Together they discuss: How Star Trek approached sex and relationships across different seriesWhy intimacy is often implied but rarely explored directlyThe role of repression and cultural norms in shaping space narrativesIsolation, long duration missions, and what actually happens when humans are stuck together in deep spaceThe holodeck, alien intimacy, and the realities of desire in a sci-fi universe From glowing alien encounters to holodeck fantasies, this episode asks a simple question: If Star Trek imagines the future of humanity, why does it still struggle to show one of the most human parts of us? And more importantly, what does that mean for the real future we are building? 🔗 Listen & Follow 🌐 Website: https://www.0gspot.com/ 🎧 All platforms: https://linktr.ee/0gspot 📺 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@0g-SPOT-Podcast 🎧 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6aJdCouHmwUodu1sNLEOZZ 🍎 Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-0g-spot-podcast/id1876931692 📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the0gspot/
