Have you ever looked at a Manager of a church or someone standing in a pulpit and felt like a "failure" because your own faith didn't look like that "finished product"? This podcast is for the person who is brave enough to pull back the curtain on the "messy middle" of a spiritual walk.   Hosted by Danny, the Countryside Christian, this series explores faith through the lens of a Manager who understands that a spiritual life requires the same Daily maintenance as a piece of heavy machinery. We move away from the "diluted" children's versions of Bible stories and get under the bonnet of the Word to find a functional Process for life.

    Engaging the drive

Send us Fan Mail In our last episode, we sat in the cab, hand on the lever, feeling the engine roar as we shifted into gear. But shifting is merely preparation for movement—today, we are Engaged (Drive). This is the moment the clutch bites, the tracks dig in, and the machine actually begins to cover ground. Moving from the safety of the workshop into active service brings a whole new set of operational challenges. Through personal testimony, scriptural reflections on Colossians 4:5–6, and an insightful interview with our guest, we explore the crucial difference between being 'ready to work' and executing recalibrated performance on site. We discuss how to regulate the 'RPM' of our speech, the necessity of having trusted 'Spotters' to keep us accountable, and how to maintain momentum towards the harvest without stalling when the terrain gets rough. Shifting gears

Send us Fan Mail After spending the last six episodes inside the workshop—stripping back past habits, performing essential daily maintenance, and letting the oil settle—it is finally time to roll out onto the site. A machine left idling in the shed is just an expensive collection of parts; the real test of recalibration happens when you shift into high gear on your first steep incline. In this pivotal episode, we transition from theoretical knowledge to active field practice. Through personal testimony, scriptural insights from Proverbs 24:16 and James 1:22, and an in-depth conversation with our special guest, we troubleshoot what happens when life pushes our engines onto the rev-limiter. We explore how to recognize early spiritual warning lights, navigate seasons of isolation and distance, and take that essential first step to safely restart after a total mechanical stall. The Dampened Flame

Send us Fan Mail Episode 6 explores the critical "Maintenance Gap"—the period between an initial spiritual spark and the moment the flame begins to dampen. Using the metaphor of heavy machinery, this episode examines the vital difference between a machine that merely starts and one that truly performs under load. I share a personal audit of the "gap" in my own logbook, from the roaring fire in an Ely Village hall to the years of neglect that led to a seized engine. We discuss the dangers of ignoring the Lord's manual and how worldly distractions can lead to a state of no maintenance. I have learnt that it is OK to acknowledge when the joints have become stiff, provided we remain focussed on picking up the tools again. By applying the "Process" found in Hebrews 12:11–13, we take a "new grip" to move from "weak knees" to a peaceful harvest. This is a raw look at what it takes to stop the engine, identify the rust, and commit to the Daily service required for a true recalibration. Daily Service

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 5: The Daily Service, we move from the occasional "major overhaul" to the discipline of preventative maintenance. This episode addresses the necessity of consistent, small-scale checks to ensure our spiritual performance does not degrade over time. I have learnt that many of us wait for a total mechanical failure before seeking the Lord, but the role of a Manager is to identify issues while the engine is still running. We discuss how to establish a Daily routine that keeps the internal "Code" clean and ensures our torque remains high. By committing to these regular adjustments, we prevent the "rust" of complacency from setting in and ensure that we are always prepared for the demands of the next shift. This is about building the stamina to stay active and focussed, regardless of the load we are asked to carry. Support the show Follow thecountrysidechristian on TikTok for more content

    Breaking the Code

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 4: The Operator’s Manual, we focus on the essential technical documentation required to keep our faith running: the Bible. This episode examines why we so often leave the manual in the glovebox, covered in dust, while we try to "wing it" in the field. I have learnt that trying to operate heavy machinery without consulting the Lord’s instructions leads to grinding gears and inevitable stalls. We discuss the transition from merely owning the book to actually performing the Daily service of reading and applying it. By treating the New Living Translation as our primary Standard Operating Procedure, we ensure that we are not just guessing the settings but are focussed on the precise recalibration needed for our specific spiritual engine. This is where we move from being "well-meaning" to being "well-equipped" for the harvest. Support the show Follow thecountrysidechristian on TikTok for more content

    The ‘Good Enough’ Myth

Send us Fan Mail Episode 3 addresses the "Good Enough Myth," a common spiritual stall where we compare our output to those around us rather than following the Lord's manual. It explores the danger of settling for a "minimum operating standard" and highlights how looking at the people in the church can lead to a false sense of security or, conversely, a feeling of total mechanical failure. You have learnt that "good enough" is often just a cover for a dampened flame, preventing you from performing the Daily service required for true growth. By stripping away this myth, the episode challenges you to stop measuring yourself against the yard and start focussing on the recalibration the Lord has planned for your specific journey. First Step

Send us Fan Mail Episode 2 focuses on the transition from being a passive passenger to becoming an active operator of your own spiritual journey. It addresses the critical moment you stop relying on the faith of a Manager or Vicar and take accountability for the machine yourself. You have learnt that while the Lord provides the manual and the fuel, the responsibility to step into the workshop and initiate the Daily service rests solely with you. By moving away from a state of "idling," this episode challenges you to get your hands on the steering wheel and prepare for the work that lies ahead in the field. In the Beginning

Send us Fan Mail Have you ever paused to reflect on the moments that shape our faith and beliefs?   In the debut episode of Countryside Christian, your host Danny takes you behind the "back curtain" of the spiritual walk. We often see the finished product—a Manager of a church ministry or someone standing in a pulpit—but we rarely talk about the messy middle, the harvest, and the tilling of the soil.   This podcast is for those currently questioning where they are and what it actually feels like to step into faith for the first time or wrestle with ancient texts in a modern world.   In This Episode: The Prayer: Danny opens with a heartfelt prayer, asking for guidance to keep focussing and growing in His way.   The "Why" Behind the Faith: A look back at the fields of childhood, exploring how simple traditions and safety systems evolved into a genuine relationship with the Lord.   Hidden Treasure: A deep dive into Proverbs 2:3-5, exploring why we must "cry aloud" for insight and "dig" for understanding like silver.   Digging Deep: Danny discusses the "Decision to Dig," addressing the physical and mental anxieties that come with facing doubt and shifting perceptions.   The Furrow Tools: An introduction to the tools needed for the journey, from the Bible to the metaphorical MHE (Material Handling Equipment) of the spiritual warehouse.   Join us as we pick up the spade and prepare the soil for a full life. Whether you are walking the dog, commuting, or sitting quietly at home, you are welcome here.   "Faith is not just on the surface. It is time to get our hands dirty.
