No Experience, No Job. Now What? | Chief Commercial Officer | Fiona Tabraham

You study. You build your skills. You put yourself out there and apply for jobs. Then comes the question: “How much experience do you have?” But how are you supposed to get experience when nobody is willing to give you a chance? On this episode of TMC Podcast, Fiona Tabraham, Chief Commercial Officer at Umuzi, talks about the opportunity gap facing young people trying to enter the world of work, and why having the right skills doesn't always mean getting your foot in the door. We also discuss how to show employers what you're capable of, even when your CV doesn't tell the full story. From building a portfolio to finding opportunities and understanding the value of social capital, this conversation challenges how we think about getting started in a career. In this conversation: Why getting your first opportunity can be so difficult Three practical things you can do to get closer to opportunities How the Experience Lab helps young people gain practical work experience How to build a portfolio that demonstrates your abilities Why employers may be overlooking talented people What social capital means and how it shapes career opportunities Watch, listen and join the conversation. The Person Who Changed Everything | Umuzi CEO: Lyndi Lawson Smith

Have you ever felt like you're doing everything right, gaining the skills and putting in the work, but the opportunities just aren't coming? Sometimes, the difference isn't how talented you are. It's having someone who sees your potential, believes in you and gives you a chance. At Umuzi's Within Reach partner event, Guy Luyanda sits down with Lyndi Lawson Smith to talk about the people who change the course of our careers, the opportunities we don't always see, and why getting ahead is about more than what you know. Lyndi reflects on the person who made a difference in her own journey and how that experience shapes the way she thinks about leadership and developing young talent at Umuzi. The conversation also explores the difference between networking and social capital, how to prepare yourself when an opportunity comes along, and why opening doors for others matters just as much as having someone open one for you. Because sometimes, a single opportunity can change what's possible. And sometimes, you can be that person for someone else. In this conversation: The person who changed everything Why having someone believe in your potential matters Social capital vs networking How to prepare yourself for opportunities Paying it forward and creating access for others Leadership and the journey from learning to earning The role of partners in creating opportunities Lyndi's unpopular opinion on AI Visit www.tmcdigital.co.za for learn more about us.

I Won MTV Base, Lost It All & Started Again | Autism awareness | Ntandose Nkabinde

Ntandose Nkabinde is a Trade Specialist, Autism Advocate, Founder and Sports Presenter, and the list is not a flex, it is a fact. She works as a Trade Specialist for an energy drink brand, driving consumer experiences and growth in the retail space. She is also the Founder of the iKwe Kwezi Autism Initiative, a non-profit organisation supporting autistic children and their families through awareness, education and community programmes. And she hosts Continental on Sports Cast Africa, airing on SABC+, where she covers African football with the clarity and depth the game deserves. Before all of this, Ntandose made her mark as an MTV Base presenter after winning the MTV Base VJ Search, only to later experience the uncertainty of having that chapter come to an unexpected end. But Ntandose's story isn't really about having multiple titles. It's about learning how to carry multiple versions of yourself at once. She doesn't split herself between these identities, she holds all of them. In this conversation with Amo, we unpack what that actually looks like: • The career decisions • The pivots • The compromises • Motherhood • The things nobody tells you about building a career • The moments when you have to redefine what success is allowed to mean Because sometimes, your career isn't one straight path. Sometimes, it's everything you become along the way. #motherhood #autism #tmcpodcast Subscribe to TMC Podcast for honest conversations about careers, ambition, work, business, creativity and the realities of building a career in South Africa.
