    Clutch Before & After 9/11

What a difference a few months can make in rock and roll! The guys look back at Clutch playing two very different shows in 2001. Back in May, Clutch sold out The Other Side with a killer lineup featuring Murphy's Law, Vision of Disorder, and Tree. But on September 19, 2001, just eight days after 9/11, Clutch returned to Oklahoma for a show at the Diamond Ballroom with Systematic. Only 311 people attended! The guys discuss why attendance dropped so dramatically. Was it the changing music scene? Was it the difference in opening bands? Or did the events of September 11th affect concert attendance? One thing they agree on: the earlier lineup was much stronger! Two Clutch shows, two completely different crowds, and another look back at Oklahoma concert history. Like, share, and follow so these stories keep getting told. #HeresTheDealPodcast #Clutch #Systematic #MurphysLaw #VisionOfDisorder #Tree #DiamondBallroom #TheOtherSide #September11 #911 #2001Concerts #RockHistory #MaxBakerJr #JeffBrownen #oklahoma #oklahomacity Like, share, and follow so these stories keep getting told. Tenacious D Sells Out Of Cum Towels

Tenacious D brought massive amounts of merchandise into the venue. Max and Jeff thought there was no way they would sell it all. Especially the cream-colored towels embroidered with the words “Cum Towel.” But they were wrong! The merchandise was flying off the tables. The crew kept going back to the van for more until almost everything was gone. And at the end of the night? The boxes were not filled with leftover merchandise. They were filled with CASH! It was one of the biggest merchandise sales Max and Jeff had ever seen for a venue that size. And those $30 towels? High-quality embroidery. High thread count. Maybe even Egyptian cotton! Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, & Ray Price Last of the Breed Tour

Three country music legends. Willie Nelson. Merle Haggard. Ray Price. The guys look back at the legendary Last of the Breed project with Asleep at the Wheel. But then Max shares a hilarious story about Ray Price. Everybody thinks Willie Nelson was the biggest marijuana smoker in country music. According to Max, they might have that wrong! During the early days of casino concerts, Max remembers booking Ray Price. His band members reportedly didn't even want to ride on his tour bus because he smoked so much. The bus would be parked outside with the windows open. And this was before marijuana was legal. But as Max puts it, to Ray Price, it was! Three country legends. And one unforgettable backstage story! #HeresTheDealPodcast #WillieNelson #MerleHaggard #RayPrice #LastOfTheBreed #AsleepAtTheWheel #ClassicCountry #OutlawCountry #CountryMusic #MusicHistory #MaxBakerJr #JeffBrownen #oklahoma #oklahomacity Like, share, and follow so these stories keep getting told. Kid Rock's Cocky Tour & American Head Charge

Kid Rock on April 21st, 2002, bringing his Cocky Tour to the Cox Convention Center. Kid Rock was riding high during the Cocky album era, and this was one of those big shows that defined early-2000s rock. Then just two days later, April 23rd, came a much heavier lineup. American Head Charge.  Third Strike.  Vastu.  Failsafe.  Pulse Ultra. Now that was a killer underground rock show! The guys remember seeing Pulse Ultra that night and being completely blown away. It was the only time they remembered Pulse Ultra coming through, and the band made a serious impression. But here's the crazy part. Only 266 people showed up! That number gets everybody talking. And JAy has a special message for Jake Williams from Failsafe. He's highly disappointed that only 266 people came out! Kid Rock playing at the Cox Convention Center. American Head Charge, Third Strike, Failsafe, Vastu, and Pulse Ultra bringing the heaviness. Two very different shows. And another reminder of how unpredictable the Oklahoma rock scene could be. #HeresTheDealPodcast #KidRock #CockyTour #AmericanHeadCharge #ThirdStrike #Vastu #Failsafe #PulseUltra #JakeWilliams #CoxConventionCenter #MaxBakerJr #JeffBrownen #oklahoma #oklahomacity Like, share, and follow so these stories keep getting told. Mudvayne, Thursday, Minus The Bear, & Hot Topic

March 2006 brought two unforgettable shows to Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa. First up, Mudvayne on March 19th. And things were already going crazy before the show started! When Jay arrived to set up for the radio station, the production crew was scrambling. There weren't enough subwoofers for Mudvayne's massive sound system. Extra equipment arrived late, and the crew had to hustle to get everything ready. Just another day in rock and roll! Then came March 21, 2006, when Thursday brought the Shirts For A Cure Tour to Cain's Ballroom. The lineup included: Thursday.  Minus The Bear.  The Number Twelve Looks Like You.  We're All Broken. Tickets were $16 in advance and $20 at the door. And the crowd? Thick-rimmed glasses, thrift-store sweatshirts, and plenty of Hot Topic fashion! The guys remember when Hot Topic was huge in Tulsa, especially among the alternative rock and post-hardcore crowd. Two completely different shows. One legendary venue. And a whole lot of mid-2000s rock and roll memories! #HeresTheDealPodcast #Mudvayne #Thursday #MinusTheBear #TheNumberTwelveLooksLikeYou #WereAllBroken #HotTopic #ShirtsForACure #CainsBallroom #ConcertProduction #MaxBakerJr #JeffBrownen #oklahoma #oklahomacity Like, share, and follow so these stories keep getting told. Cody Canada & Big Dad Ritch Smokin' Under Cain's Ballroom Stage

Some of the best concert stories happen where the audience never gets to go. Big Dad Ritch remembers playing Cain’s Ballroom with Cross Canadian Ragweed. The place was packed, and the guys recall that the band set a record for beer sales that night. But the best part happened after the show. Cody Canada invited Ritch underneath the stage to see the original Cain’s Ballroom stage. And while they were down there? They did a little Oklahoma-style smoking. This was before State Question 788, so the guys start joking about the statute of limitations. Ritch makes one thing clear. It was Cody's fault! Besides, Cody lives in Texas now. They would have to extradite him. And that's a lot of paperwork! #HeresTheDealPodcast #CodyCanada #BigDadRitch #CrossCanadianRagweed #TexasHippieCoalition #THC #CainsBallroom #RedDirtMusic #RedDirtCountry #MaxBakerJr #JeffBrownen #oklahoma #oklahomacity Like, share, and follow so these stories keep getting told.
