What If We Were Never Meant To Follow Someone Else's Timeline?

We all subconsiously have created a timeline for ourselves, often based on the expectations that our close environment has set for us. But what if you were never meant to follow someone else's timeline? We naturally compare ourselves to the people we resonate with: same age, a shared passion or a similar phase in life. These people are our classmates, co-workers, the people we follow on instagram, friends and even family. You see what they have achieved, where they are, what they are doing and somehow that becomes the standard for where you think you should be. I mean we all know the pressure when your classmate has already found the perfect internship, while you are rethinking if this program is actually what you want to do. Or that one colleage that is focussing on building a family, while you have never been in a relationship. It is very normal that we feel 'behind' when we see other people doing things we haven't figured out yet. Nevertheless, we do not take into account that every single experience forms us to the person we are now, it has brought us to this exact point. Your life is a personal experience and therefore your timeline will be. You are not supposed to bend yourself to fit into some “expected” order of life. You don’t need to become someone else or rush to catch up. What you actually need is acceptance. Accept that other people might be further ahead in certain areas. Be okay with taking your time, with not following the 'normal' order. Your needs might be different from the ones of the people around you and that is totally fine.
