    God Isn't A Rule You Keep. It's A God You Know

Proverbs 12:2 says, “A good man will obtain favor from the Lord,” and most of us instinctively hear rules, performance, and pressure. We slow down and rebuild those words from the ground up: “good” as a life rightly ordered toward God, and “favor” as delight, goodwill, and acceptance from a Father who actually gives good gifts. That shift turns faith from a courtroom mindset into a relationship you can live inside today.  We also talk about the other side of the verse and why “condemnation” often looks like consequence. Using a lane-assist metaphor, we explore how God’s correction nudges us back toward the center, and how repeated self-scheming can leave us standing on plans that collapse when the storm hits. Along the way we connect the theme to Psalm 34:8, Romans 2:4, the prodigal son in Luke 15, and Jesus’ definition of eternal life in John 17:3, where knowing God matters more than collecting facts about Him.  The episode closes with a personal reflection on control, stewardship, and peace.     Real Wisdom Is Learning To Recognize God’s Voice

    Send us Fan Mail Wisdom sounds like a life hack until Proverbs keeps dragging us back to one blunt starting line: “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” We’ve spent weeks working through Proverbs, and I wanted to pause and ask the uncomfortable question beneath all our note-taking and study plans: what if we’ve made wisdom harder than God ever intended? I talk through a simple framework that keeps showing up in the text and in real life: hear, believe, act. Proverbs doesn’t present wisdom as a trophy for the smartest person in the room, but as a voice calling out. From there we connect the dots to Jesus’ promise in John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice… and they follow me,” and why that’s meant to be deeply comforting, not a weapon. We also wrestle with the danger Jesus names in John 5, where people can know Scripture and still refuse to come to him for life. Then we bring it home with two stories that cut through performance and pretense: the thief on the cross who reaches for Jesus with the faith he has, and the prodigal son who “comes to himself” and discovers a Father who runs toward him.     From The Fruit That Outlives The Tree

    Send us Fan Mail If you’ve ever looked at your bank account, your home, or your career progress and quietly wondered, “Is this what God’s blessing looks like?” this conversation will challenge you in the best way. We’re closing out Proverbs 11 with two verses that reset the scoreboard: “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,” and wisdom “wins souls.” That’s not a call to hustle harder. It’s an invitation to stop trusting the wrong evidence. We talk about spiritual fruit as something that grows, not something you manufacture. Jesus’ words in John 15, “I am the vine, you are the branches,” become the anchor: the branch doesn’t create life, it abides and receives it. From there we trace the faith pattern we see in Abraham: God speaks, faith receives, obedience acts, and over time righteousness bears fruit. That fruit carries seed, and seed multiplies, meaning God can grow something through you that keeps producing life in other people long after you’re gone. We also get painfully practical about wealth and possessions. We can enjoy good things and still refuse to worship them. Using Matthew 6, we flip the order from chasing “additions” to seeking the kingdom first, trusting God as provider while we stay responsible and obedient. Finally, Proverbs 11:31 brings it home: everybody gets a harvest on earth, wise and foolish alike, so what are we planting daily, and what are we becoming?     Build The House, Don’t Inherit The Wind

    Send us Fan Mail A shiny life can still be an empty life, and Proverbs 11:29 puts that truth into one unforgettable phrase: “inherit wind.” We slow down and get specific about what it looks like to “trouble your own house” even while you’re building a house everyone admires. It’s not about a single bad day or one sharp comment. It’s the slow habit of stirring mud in the place that should feel safest, until the people you love most no longer want to be close. We also challenge the easy scapegoat game. This wisdom isn’t aimed at one gender, one personality type, or one role in the family. The real issue is atmosphere. Are we bringing peace, honesty, and humility into our marriage and parenting, or are we polluting the home with pressure, control, and constant conflict? Then we flip the verse around and ask the hopeful question: if troubling your home leads to wind, what does tending it lead to? We talk about the kind of “fruit” that money can’t buy, like kids who actually want to come home and relationships that deepen with time. From there the conversation widens to ambition, money, and the pressure to keep adding branches. Ecclesiastes reminds us that enjoying God’s gifts is itself a gift, and we wrestle with how goal-setting can quietly turn into anxiety when it becomes a list of what we don’t have. The second half of the proverb sharpens the stakes: foolishness costs you options, while wisdom expands them through discipline, skill, and self-governance. We land in John 15 with a simple picture, branch and vine, and a freeing reminder that the fruit grows out of connection.     You've Got Enough Branches

    Send us Fan Mail Money can look like security right up until the moment it can’t hold your weight. Today I’m sitting in Proverbs 11:28, and the more I live with it, the more I’m convinced Solomon isn’t mainly talking about dollars at all. He’s talking about trust: what you lean your full body on when you’re tired, uncertain, or trying to feel safe. That one shift changes everything, because you can be broke and still worship money, or you can have plenty and never put your hope in it. We walk through the warning and the promise side by side. Jesus’ story of the rich fool in Luke 12 is Proverbs 11:28 in real time: bigger barns aren’t the sin, but treating stored fruit like a future is. Then we flip to the image of the righteous flourishing like a green leaf, pulling from Jeremiah’s tree planted by water and the simple question underneath it all: are my roots connected to the river, or am I trying to live off what grew last season? From there, I connect Matthew 6:33 to the everyday mechanics of wisdom, obedience, and long-term fruit. Sometimes God prospers us by giving more, and sometimes He prospers us by teaching us we need less. I share two personal lessons that exposed my own “branches” thinking, from luxury hotels to the ongoing mental cost of owning assets, and why every asset has two price tags.     What Are You Actually Seeking?

    Send us Fan Mail Favor is a word we throw around like it’s a reward program, but Proverbs 11:27 doesn’t read like a transaction to me. It reads like a direction. We start with the uncomfortable question hiding in plain sight: am I “seeking good” because I love what’s right, or because I’m trying to get something back from people or from God? When we unpack the language behind diligently seeking, the point sharpens fast: goodness isn’t bait, and favor isn’t a vending machine payout. Favor is delight that sits downstream of alignment with God’s character. Then we go straight at the frustration most of us feel but don’t always say out loud: if evil comes back around, why do some of the meanest people seem to be doing just fine? We look at the Bible’s “pit” principle and why a proverb isn’t a stopwatch. The trap doesn’t always spring by Friday, and the first harvest of evil is often internal, showing up as paranoia, isolation, and relationships you can’t truly trust even while the outside looks successful. From there we talk about farming metaphors Jesus kept using, and why our hearts function like soil. Actions, habits, and choices grow into a person. That includes a careful take on the “fake it till you make it” idea, plus two real stories: one about biting my tongue in a neighbor conflict, and one about my oldest daughter sharpening her skills instead of chasing big titles until the “kings” came looking. We also call out prosperity gospel “seed money” manipulation, and the practical difference between bread for today and seed for tomorrow.     What Survives When They Leave The Room

    Send us Fan Mail A conversation can hijack your mind without ever raising its voice. You walk away sure that everything is falling apart, that people cannot be trusted, that you need to rearrange your whole life right now. Then a day later, with the room empty and your body calm again, you think: that is not even what I believe. So what happened?  We open Proverbs 11:23 and slow down long enough to see the mechanics of the verse: desire becomes expectation, and expectation becomes the atmosphere you live in. We define the Hebrew ideas behind desire, expectation, and wrath, then draw a practical line between wise caution and chronic dread. Preparation is something you do. Expectation is somewhere you live. When the heart feeds on suspicion, bitterness, or self interest, it starts narrating the world through that lens, and neutral moments begin to sound like threats.  From there we go deeper than psychology and use the Bible’s own categories. Paul names a spirit of fear in 2 Timothy 1:7, and Scripture even shows a spirit operating through spoken words in 1 Kings 22:19–23. That is why deception can feel so comforting and so “true” in real time. The goal is not to turn people into enemies. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us the struggle is not against flesh and blood, which means we can love people while refusing to let their fog become our home.  We end with a simple, grounded practice: test the spirits. Using 1 John 4:1, James 3:17, and Galatians 5:22–23, we ask what a message produces in you after the moment passes: peace or dread, love or panic, clarity or confusion. If it only holds up while they are standing in front of you, it is not truth.     “Can I?” Isn’t The Question

    Send us Fan Mail A gold ring in a pig’s snout is a ridiculous picture, and that’s exactly why Proverbs 11:22 works. When something valuable sits on top of something untrained, the value doesn’t transform the foundation. The foundation drags the gift into the mud. We take that proverb seriously and let it interrogate the places our lives wobble, especially when looks, charm, money, talent, or success start doing the heavy lifting that character was meant to do. We dig into the meaning of “discretion” as moral taste and sound judgment, then connect the proverb to Genesis 24 where Rebekah receives a ring after her servant-hearted character is proven. From there, we hold the biblical balance: yes, people notice outward appearance, and we should steward our bodies well, but Scripture keeps pointing to the hidden person of the heart as the lasting work. Beauty is not the enemy. A gift without integrity underneath it is the danger. Then we bring it into modern life where instant gratification is everywhere. If you can get a buzz, a hookup, validation, or attention in ten minutes, why would you stay in the slow process that forms restraint? We walk through Romans 5, James 1, Hebrews 12, and Galatians 6 to show why discomfort isn’t pointless, it’s often the mechanism God uses to produce proven character. The turning point lands in one contrast: the flesh keeps asking “Can I?” while wisdom asks “Should I?” If you’ve been stuck in a repeating pattern, let this be the moment you pause long enough to ask the second question.
