S2 E2 | The Cost of Staying Silent: My Story of Losing My Identity at the Hands of My Narcissistic Mother.

This is a story that I have only told maybe a dozen or less people in my entire life. There are people that have been around for seasons of my life that never knew. I talked a lot in the beginning about how this podcast has a lot to do with identity. This episode is probably the climax of my story and I almost don’t want it to be because I feel like that means it’s all downhill from here but that’s not exactly it. I lost years of my life, living a lie, or just not truly living at all because I didn’t give myself permission to take control of my person. I didn’t give myself permission to love me fully and find a way to heal from this in a way that allowed me to act on my intuition.  Some days I feel so lost, not knowing what I truly want and being too stressed adulting and paying bills to figure out what it is that will truly set my soul on fire. One thing my life coach brought to my attention is that there is so much joy in being able to find that and figure it out.  So what if you don’t know what kind of career path you want. So what if your business isn’t where you want it to be. So what if certain boxes aren’t quite checked. How amazing is it that you get to figure it out. That you get to explore and grow and breathe life into your life?!  Every day is a choice and a chance to take back control. To exercise my love for myself and lean into what it means to be me. To find my voice, create my space, build my environment into something beautiful. I’m not lost. I’m not behind. I’m exactly where I need to be in this moment.  My hope is for every woman who has ever lost years of her life to abuse in any form to find herself again. To pick up the pieces and create something beautiful. To give herself Permission to Rise into all that she is. Nothing more. Nothing less.  🎧 Be sure to Subscribe, follow, and share Permission to Rise with a woman who’s ready to rise into her next chapter. Support the show

18 | Never Underestimate The Power of a Safe Space

I feel like I’m in this weird transitional part of life right now. Where I have found a safe space to land and yet everything feels very temporary. I’m having a hard time settling into my space. I think a part of me just doesn’t want to be too comfortable that I don’t allow for the change that I want to continue to happen. And the other part of me is still in this weird sort of fight or flight simulation. I’m on the edge of my seat, waiting for something to happen with a little more anxiousness rather than excitement.  I titled this episode, “never underestimate the power of a safe space” because I think for people who’ve never had to question their safety in their own home, it’s easy to become ignorant to the mental health needs of others. I hate to use the word ignorant because it insinuates that you’re not smart enough to understand. And that’s not what I’m trying to say at all. It’s easy to gaslight individuals who are going through crisis without realizing that you’re gaslighting. In an attempt to understand how someone is feeling we often times downplay what’s really happening. We wanna make them feel better and find more positive ways to view a situation rather than accepting it for what it is. My hope is that by sharing my journey through this podcast, I can provide insight for you to better understand mental health. To better understand it through a highly personal perspective. I hope that it helps you listen better and show up better for the people in your life when they need you most. Because sometimes what we need can’t always be put into visual form. It’s not always a helping hand or an object or cash. Sometimes it’s an ear and a true shoulder to cry on. This episode briefly touches on how I’m feeling since I’ve moved. Some conflicting thoughts and revelations that I’ve had along the way. It’s also the conclusion to season one of Permission to Rise Podcast. It’s nothing grandiose. This episode feels rather messy compared to a lot of the other ones. But it’s just an honest statement of where my brain is right now so I hope you follow along!  🎧 Be sure to Subscribe, follow, and share Permission to Rise with a woman who’s ready to rise into her next chapter. 17 | Figure Out The What And The How Will Follow

Not gonna lie I was starting to spiral. Falling in love with someone and then having them leave. On top of the pressure of having one more month to move out with no job prospects on the line was intense. I was so fed up that I decided that I was going to write down everything that was happening in September. I didn’t know how I was gonna make it happen. But I wrote it down as if it was getting done. Not a to-do list but an absolute this is what’s happening kind of list. And guess what?! It worked! Sometimes you just have to tell the universe what you’re doing for the path to clear. I had a college professor one year. Tell our class that, “You don’t need to know the how just the what”! Just figure out what it is that you want and the how will figure itself out! Easier said than done some days, but it’s worth a shot. Have a listen to the next stage of my journey, the moving stage.  If you’re just turning in or you haven’t been tuning into every episode, here’s your friendly reminder that season one is a little more serial than the rest of my podcast. So you’ll wanna listen to the episodes in order. Maybe you’ll get something from them maybe you won’t but I promise you they all connect together in someway shape or form. And I’ll be deep diving quite a number of things that I’ve touched on in future episodes.  Today’s episode might be a little shorter and my next episode, number 18, is more than likely going to be the last episode to season one. So if you’ve stuck around this far, thanks for listening!  🎧 Be sure to Subscribe, follow, and share Permission to Rise with a woman who needs a lesson in resilience. 16 | You Cannot Lose What's Meant For You

I have been so gung ho about Mel Robbins and her Let Them theory. It’s become a real mantra in my life for years now. I even got the words let them tattooed on my wrist. Sometimes it’s really hard to let people go, especially when you never wanted them to leave. I’ve been ready for this episode and yet dreading it at the same time. Some days I feel like I’m doing all right and other days I’m breaking down. I’ve poured my heart out to my apartment a million times over. And I have to remind myself that I owe no one an explanation. Sometimes you just have to let someone go. I’ve spent too many years, begging people to stay or begging them to do better. Whether it be a friendship, a relationship or even the relationship I have with my own mom.  I’ve also learned that when it’s right, I will never have to spend so much time validating my own person in a friendship, a relationship, a job. I’ve spent a good chunk of my life feeling so inclined to reason with everyone. To defend myself or explain myself when really all I needed to do was show up. So I show up the best that I can. And it hurts when you feel like your best isn’t good enough. It takes time and a whole lot of love for yourself to realize that your best will always be good enough with the right people. Even a year later, it’s been really hard letting go. This episode is a letter to the one who left. The one who brought me so much peace to my nervous system. To the one that I thought was finally forever.  🎧 Subscribe, follow, and share Permission to Rise with a woman who’s ready to rise into her next chapter. Support the show

13 | Giving Yourself Permission to Outgrow Friendships & A Lesson in Letting Go of Comparison

Season one of permission to Rise podcast is mostly serial so you’ll wanna listen to all the episodes in order. Today’s episode I had earmarked for talking about friendship. It will be about friendship, but bear with me in the beginning because I have had a lot on my mind lately and I needed to let some of it go. I have a lot to say on friendship. I left my relationship with the narcissist, feeling quite lonely. Shortly after that, I started building a friendship with a couple ladies in my neighborhood and I realized a lot more about myself. I realized that friendships aren’t just about the ones you have with others they’re also about the one that you have with yourself.  It’s been an interesting last six years learning how to sit with myself and be best friends with myself. We’re still learning a lot about each other, me myself and I. But I’ve also started putting my foot down when it comes to spending my energy in certain circles. I’ve learned that I don’t have to be the life of the party and I don’t need to be the brightest in the room to shine!  If you’re a woman who also feels like you struggle with friendships, I’m here to tell you you’re not alone. Have a listen to this week’s episode and tell me what resonates with you. 🎧 Subscribe, follow, and share Permission to Rise with a woman who’s ready to rise into her next chapter. Also, enjoy the little blooper or ad lib at the end. Lady was bathing herself the last couple minutes of my podcast. I’m not sure that you can hear it in the background but I didn’t have the heart to move her off the couch! 🙃 Support the show
