Ep. 27 - Socialism in America | Everyone Knows

46% of Americans under 35 view democratic socialism favorably. Ask their newest member of Congress to name a country where it worked and she names two capitalist ones. Why Young Americans Are Voting Socialist | Everyone Knows Ep. 27 Everyone Knows | Episode 27 | Starborne Studios A year ago the Democratic Socialists of America had two members of Congress. They are on track for five. New York City has a socialist mayor at 58% approval who then went three for three as a kingmaker in Democratic primaries, taking out a five term incumbent. Gallup has favorable views of capitalism at the lowest number it has ever recorded. Brian Bullock goes through what the polling says, what these voters actually mean by the word, and the thing underneath it that nobody in Washington will say out loud. Three parts. All of them matter. FIRST, the numbers and the wins. 46% of under 35s favorable to democratic socialism. 62% of 18 to 29 year olds favorable to socialism, and 34% favorable to communism. Capitalism at 54% nationally, the lowest Gallup has ever measured. Brian's read is that most outlets have it backwards. Socialism is not surging. It has sat in the high thirties for over a decade. Capitalism is what fell out from under. Nobody converted. People quit. Then he counts the seats. Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, Denver, and now a governor's race in Wisconsin, all off one playbook. SECOND, what these voters actually mean by the word. Ask the same young Americans about free enterprise instead and 83% view it positively. Same people, different word, a forty point swing. Asked to name something good about socialism, their most common answer was nothing. Nobody volunteered state ownership. Nobody said central planning. They are picturing Scandinavia. So Brian looks at Scandinavia, where the Prime Minister of Denmark flew to Harvard to tell Americans his country is a market economy, and where there is no minimum wage law. Then he goes to the country that did the real thing, and what it cost the people there. THIRD, the question all the shouting skips. Not whether these voters are right, but why the number moved now, after sitting flat for a decade. The answer is not in any poll about ideology. It is in two ordinary pieces of paper that nearly every American under 35 already has, and once Brian sets those numbers side by side, the voting stops looking like a belief and starts looking like arithmetic. It is also where he quits talking about the left and says the hardest thing he has said on this show about his own side. Everyone Knows is one man reading the story straight. Who benefits, who gets hurt, why now, what happens next. No panel, no talking points, no hedging. If you're tired of the spin, you're in the right place. Ep. 26 - What drives your power bill | Everyone Knows

Your electric bill went up 7.3 percent last year. The bigger increase is already approved and has not landed on your account yet. Why Your Power Bill Keeps Going Up And Who Already Decided It | Everyone Knows Ep. 26 Everyone Knows | Episode 26 | Starborne Studios In 2025, utilities asked state regulators for a record $31 billion in rate increases, more than double the year before. Most of it was approved. Nearly half was still sitting in front of regulators when this year started, so the money is granted and much of it has not hit your bill yet. Brian Bullock walks through where the increase came from, who was in the room when it was decided, and why nobody told you. Three parts. All of them matter. FIRST, the rate case. Your electric utility is a monopoly. There is no competitor down the road, so a state board decides what it can charge. That board does not just approve a price. It approves a rate of return, the profit it is allowed to earn on every plant, substation and power line it builds. The utility does not get rich selling you electricity. It gets rich building things and collecting a guaranteed percentage on them for the next 30 or 40 years. Brian shows you how to read the two halves of your own bill, how to pull up your state's pending rate cases in ten minutes, and why TVA customers have no hearing to go to at all. SECOND, data centers. One large facility can pull as much power as a small city, and the market monitor inside PJM, the grid operator for 65 million people, tied data center demand to $23 billion in price increases running through 2028. Seven in ten Americans now oppose one being built near them. States are banning them, taxing them and auditing them. But the national numbers do not say what the coverage says they say. Line up the ten states with the most data centers against everybody else and the price per kilowatt hour is the same. Brian lays out where the server farm is a real driver and where it is a convenient excuse for a legislature that closed its own plants early. THIRD, there is a rule sitting in state law that lets a utility charge you for a power plant before it is built, and keep charging if it never gets finished. It already cost one state about $9 billion for two reactors that have never produced a single watt, and the people there still pay for it every month on a line their bill does not show them. Then Congress took a swing at all of this and passed something 52 to 0. Unanimous. Wait until you hear what it actually does. Everyone Knows takes the stories that hit regular people in the wallet and names who made the decision. No talking points. No party line. If you're tired of the spin, you're in the right place. Ep. 25 - Robot dog, Boeing & FAA, Black Hole | Everyone Knows

A Chinese robot dog sold to US universities shipped with a hidden doorbuilt in. Our government did not find it. Outside researchers did. Chinese Robots, Boeing Signs Its Own Planes Again | EveryoneKnows Ep. 25   This week the government shut off imports of Chinese humanoid and quadruped robots and called them a national security risk. Ten days after handing Boeing back the authority to sign off its own airplanes, the FAA ordered 453 of them inspected. Brian Bullock walks through both, and why thesame hole runs through all of it.   Three parts. All of them matter.   FIRST: The robot ban. Researchers pulled apart a Unitree robot dog and found a service the buyer was never told about. It started itself every time the machine powered on and opened a tunnel to a cloud service in China. Live camera, live movement, full remote control from anywhere on Earth. The government keeps a public database of security flaws and this one is in it, classified as hidden functionality. The units were found running inside MIT, Princeton, Carnegie Mellon, and Waterloo. Six months later a second way in turned up over Bluetooth, no key needed, spreading machine to machine. Brian breaks down why the ban is not a win, and what China built last month that export controls cannot touch.   SECOND: Boeing and the FAA. On July 17 the FAA gave Boeing back the authority to sign off its own airplanes, after eight months reviewing its production quality. On July 27 it proposed an order on 453 737 MAX jets, because the passenger seats might not be attached to the floor. The pin that locks a seat into the track was never dropped. More than 80,000 seats across the fleet. Eighty five dollars to inspect one. And the FAA did not find this. Boeing did, and wrote it up in December, seven and a half months before theorder came out, inside the same window the FAA was grading them. Brian spent years as a quality control inspector in aerospace. He explains how a step like that gets skipped and signed off anyway.   THIRD: Something 750 million light years away outshone an entire galaxy for months, and not one human being noticed. A piece of software did. Then it turned out to be somewhere nothing like it had ever been seen. Brian gets into who wrote that program, what it was built to look for, and the thing it will never flag no matter how long it runs on. Nothing to do with Washington. Everything to do with the other two.   A straight read on the stories that matter, without the theatrics or the party line. Ep. 24 - Two Political Fights One Weapon | Everyone Knows

Washington shut the government down twice in one year. Different fights. Same weapon. And they like it that way. Two Shutdowns, One Weapon, and the Bill Nobody Will Pass | Everyone Knows Ep. 24 Everyone Knows | Episode 24 | Starborne Studios Since the current budget year began last October, some part of the federal government has gone without regular funding for 161 days. That is 44 percent of the year. Two separate shutdowns, one of them the longest in American history and the other the longest ever for a single department. Full year funding was not finished until June 10. And the next deadline is already here on September 30. Brian walks through how a country that pays for a government ended up not having one for nearly half the year, and why the people responsible are in no hurry to fix it. Three parts. All of them matter. FIRST, the clock nobody stopped. The numbers behind the last twelve months and the cliff sitting in front of us. The 43 day shutdown last fall. The 76 day shutdown over the winter that hit Homeland Security hardest. A budget that was not settled until we were more than halfway through the budget year. Then the House passing a short term funding bill 220 to 205 with six Democrats crossing over, a bill that pushes the next fight to December 4, which lands conveniently after the November midterms. And then both chambers left town for five weeks. SECOND, two fights, one weapon. Most people think both shutdowns were about the same thing. They were not. The fall shutdown was about your health insurance, specifically the enhanced Obamacare subsidies that were about to expire. Eight Democrats eventually broke ranks to reopen the government in exchange for a promise of a vote. The vote happened. It failed. The subsidies expired anyway, average premiums rose about 30 percent, and what people actually pay out of pocket jumped from roughly 113 dollars a month to roughly 178. The winter shutdown was a completely different fight, over the border and immigration funding, and it dragged 76 days. Same weapon. Two different wars. THIRD, the part hiding in plain sight. There is something sitting on a shelf in Washington right now that would end this entire cycle permanently. It is written. It has a bill number. Both parties know it exists and neither one will touch it, and the reason why is the real story. You will have to listen to the end for that one. Everyone Knows is about the stories the rest of them file down until there is nothing left. No talking points. No party script. If you're tired of the spin, you're in the right place. Ep. 23 - AI brain cells | Everyone Knows

Scientists built working computers out of living human brain cells. They're real. They're for sale. And almost nobody is telling you what they actually mean. Computers Made of Living Human Brain Cells | Everyone Knows Ep. 23Everyone Knows | Episode 23 | Starborne Studios Something just crossed a line most people thought was decades away, and it slipped by almost unnoticed. Ten thousand years ago computing started with a person counting on their fingers and moving pebbles in the dirt. That tool has been creeping toward the human brain ever since — and it just arrived. Scientists have grown living human neurons onto silicon chips and built machines that learn the way living things learn, on their own, while they run. Brian Bullock slows the whole thing down and walks you through it in plain words, start to finish. No jargon. No hype. Just what it is, how it works, and why it matters more than almost anything else in the news right now. Three parts. All of them matter. FIRST — the two walls silicon could never climb. Every computer you've ever owned runs on switches flipping on and off. Fast, exact, tireless. But it burns enormous power doing it, and AI is now slamming straight into a real energy crisis because of it. Worse, a normal computer cannot truly learn. It trains once, freezes solid, and becomes a statue. Brian breaks down why "machine learning" is doing a lot of lying in that phrase — and why the brain in your skull, running on about twenty watts, already beat both problems. SECOND — the machine that changes the math. A company called Cortical Labs grows human neurons from a drop of donor blood, lays them on a chip, and keeps them alive in a box the size of a shoebox. A computer you can buy today for about the price of a used car. Brian lays out exactly how it works and how they proved it's real: living cells that taught themselves to play Pong, then learned Doom in a matter of days. Nobody programmed them. They adapted. That's the one thing silicon cannot do. THIRD — the part that stopped Brian cold, and the part nobody else will touch. Because a machine like this doesn't stay small. The entire point is to grow it. And somewhere down that road sits a question that's uncomfortable, dead serious, and coming at us faster than the people in charge seem to understand. Brian says it straight, no scare story and no dodge. You have to hear this one all the way to the end. This is the story nobody is explaining right, laid out start to finish so you're not caught flat-footed when it lands — because it's going to matter more than almost anything else we cover. If you're tired of the spin, you're in the right place. ABOUT EVERYONE KNOWS: Everyone Knows is an independent podcast hosted by Brian Bullock — author, storyteller, and founder of Starborne Studios. Ep. 22 - Birthright Citizenship | Everyone Knows

In 1895 they wouldn't let a Chinese cook off the boat in the city he was born in. In 2026 the rule he won beat a sitting president, and two of Trump's own justices held the knife. Birthright Citizenship, the Court Defeat, and the Fight to Undo It | Everyone Knows Ep. 22 Everyone Knows | Episode 22 | Starborne Studios On June 30, 2026, the Supreme Court struck down Donald Trump's order ending birthright citizenship, six to three, and two of the justices who killed it were his own. Brian Bullock takes you through the whole thing, front to back. No cable-news scoreboard. No spin. Just the full history, the hard math of what comes next, and the piece the headlines buried. Three parts. All of them matter. FIRST, the history nobody teaches. A slave ruling in 1857, an amendment written in 1868 to bury it, and a Chinese cook named Wong Kim Ark who got turned away from his own country in 1895 and fought three years to win the rule that has held for a hundred and twenty-eight years. That cook is the man who just stood between Trump and the end of birthright citizenship. Brian walks the whole thread so the ruling actually makes sense. SECOND, the betrayal and the fight it started. John Roberts folded on a big one again. Amy Coney Barrett broke the base's heart. And the majority didn't just block Trump's order, they welded it to the Constitution so no ordinary law can undo it. Now his own side is split on how to pry it back open, a long-shot amendment on one road, a clever statute aimed at six words on the other, and both dead-end at the same wall. Brian lays out the real odds, why the rest of the developed world already walked away from this, the China backdoor one senator is warning about, and what ending it would actually do to every American's ability to prove they are a citizen. THIRD, the thing the headlines buried. In the very same week he lost the case everyone is talking about, Trump quietly won one that may matter more, and he said so himself. It hands the presidency a power it has been denied for ninety years, and almost nobody put it on the scoreboard. Stay to the end to hear what it was, and why it may outlast the loss. This is the whole board, not the top line. The loss, the history behind it, the fight to reverse it, and the win nobody told you about. If you're tired of the spin, you're in the right place. Ep. 21 - The Uniparty: Blocked by His Own Party | Everyone Knows

When a president's own party welds shut every door he tries to walk through, the fight was never really left against right. Ep. 22 - The Uniparty | Everyone Knows Everyone Knows is hosted by Brian Bullock of Starborne Studios. A president runs on three things almost everyone claims to want: a secure border, honest elections, and no nuclear weapon for Iran. Every time he moves, he gets boxed in, and not just by Democrats. By his own side. Tonight, the trap gets named, and so do the people who built it. Three parts. All of them matter. FIRST: The Pattern Nobody Wants to Name Four goals with broad public support, four times the president got stopped. The SAVE America Act passed the House three times and died in the Senate, failing forty-eight to fifty as Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitch McConnell, and Thom Tillis crossed the aisle. Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough killed the workaround. Border Patrol and ICE funding got left twisting. And both chambers voted to rebuke him on Iran, with Cassidy, Murkowski, Collins, and Paul crossing over in the middle of negotiations. SECOND: Why the Home Team Plays Defense Why do Republicans block a Republican president? Four reasons that stack. They quietly disagree and hide it behind the filibuster. The institution protects itself before any president. A permanent governing class, the uniparty, closes ranks against any outsider who threatens the arrangement. And fear and cover let them duck the hard votes. John Thune calls the president's top priority an alternate universe, on the record. THIRD: The Gentleman's Rule in a Knife Fight The filibuster argument stated fair, then taken apart. A two-sided rule cannot survive a one-sided fight. When Democrats have promised to nuke it the day they hold power, keeping it pristine is not principle. It is unilateral disarmament. Manchin and Sinema are gone, and the Mamdani and El-Sayed wing rising to replace them has no reverence for the old norms. The names change. The result does not. Until voters punish it at the ballot box, the trap holds. ABOUT Everyone Knows is a podcast for people who are tired of being lied to. Hosted by Brian Bullock of Starborne Studios. Ep. 20 - War in Crimea | Everyone Knows

When the enemy's own propagandist draws the map of his side's collapse, the argument is over. Ep. 20 — Turning Crimea Into an Island | Everyone Knows Everyone Knows is hosted by Brian Bullock of Starborne Studios. For three years Crimea was Russia's untouchable rear — the launchpad, the trophy, the safe corner of the war. Tonight it's a peninsula running out of fuel, running out of power, and watched over by a fleet that already packed up and ran. This is the story of how you take an island back without a navy. Four parts. All of them matter. FIRST: One Night, Sixty TargetsIn a single night Ukraine hit more than sixty targets across occupied Crimea — fuel depots, radar stations, a power plant, and a railway bridge near Razdolne that no longer exists. The pattern never changes: blind the air defenses, burn the fuel, sink the ferries, freeze the Kerch Bridge. Cheap drones trading for hundred-million-dollar systems, night after night. Zelensky calls it long-range sanctions. SECOND: What Russia Did NextWithin hours, the occupation cut fuel to everyone but the state, declared an open-ended state of emergency, and rationed power for two million people. Sevastopol bookings fell 43%. The honest read up front: this isn't the Russian economy collapsing tomorrow. But a government in control doesn't run its own gas stations dry. When words and actions point opposite ways, go with the actions. THIRD: The Fleet That RanA country that started the war with essentially no navy has driven the Black Sea Fleet out of Sevastopol — the Moskva, the Novocherkassk, a third of the fleet sunk or wrecked. Now the officers are quietly moving their families off the peninsula. And a Kremlin-aligned war blogger drew the full map of Crimea's fall and told Moscow to brace for it. FOURTH: The Rot InsideJunior sergeant Alexander Lunin looked into a camera, named Putin, and described soldiers tortured in pits by their own commanders — 12 million views in a day. Putin's answer was a night raid and a cell. Ask Prigozhin how embarrassing the strongman ends. Recruiting down a third, jails emptied for warm bodies. A winning army doesn't look like this. The bridge still stands tonight. But the man drawing the map of how it ends is wearing the other team's colors. ABOUTEveryone Knows is a podcast for people who are tired of being lied to.
