    Q&A: Eph 3:14-21 - For WHAT reason? Church and the presence of God, baptism detour, Ruth’s maternity leave, and Jonathan Edwards' spirituality

    Lots of fun theology on this week’s Q&A! Michael and Ruth discuss how the context of Eph 1-3 informs Paul’s prayer in 3:14-21; the Church as the living microcosm of the new creation, the community of faith being filled with the Spirit, waters covering seas, (unrelated to this passage but still important!) the meaning of baptism and why it’s more than a symbol, plus a little sidebar about infant baptism, whether you should take communion before being baptized, and fencing the table. Finally Michael closes with a lengthy quote about a spiritual encounter from the life of the brilliant 18th century theologian and pastor Jonathan Edwards and says see ya later from the Q&A podcast to Ruth as she takes her ‘maternity leave’ from the podcast. Also, Michael gives Ruth waaaay too much credit by praising her for doing 25 podcasts when in reality she's only done like 13.     Q&A: Eph 3:1-13 - Why is Paul in Prison? How to pronounce ‘tribune;’ the Gospel for all Nations; and how to collaborate with the Church Local and Global?

    In this episode of Q&A, Michael and Ruth revisit the Jew/Gentile dynamic in the early church and how it explains one of the most crucial elements of the gospel. Then they discuss how Paul’s specific call to preach the gospel of grace to the Gentiles landed him in prison in Rome. Michael gives the short, tweet-length answer to Paul's imprisonment as well as the Paul-Thomas-Anderson-movie long answer by overviewing Acts 21-28. Alone the way, they discover that Michael does not know how to pronounce the word ‘tribune’ and tests out different versions (eventually landing on the correct way!), how the Tower of Babel (Gen 11) and Pentecost (Acts 2) are related, and the difference in types of tongues in Scripture.
