The Parent Educator Podcast

Ally Blanch | Raising Resilient Kids + Parent Leadership

Education is changing… but most parents haven’t been given the language for what they’re starting to feel. This podcast is for the parent who has quietly thought:“Something about this doesn’t feel right for my child.” I’m Ally Blanch - former Assistant Principal, nervous system educator, and mum. I spent years inside the school system leading wellbeing and behaviour frameworks.I believed in the system. I worked hard in it. Until I became a mother…and started to see everything through a completely different lens. This podcast isn’t about giving you more strategies. It’s about helping you see your role differently. Because whether you’ve realised it or not -you have always been your child’s primary educator. Here, we explore what it means to step into that role with intention. Not from fear. Not from pressure. But from clarity. We talk about:• nervous system safety and why regulation comes before learning• behaviour as communication, not something to fix• the difference between schooling and actual learning• deschooling ourselves as adults• homeschooling in Australia (and what’s actually possible)• and how to raise children who are confident, capable, and deeply connected to themselves This isn’t about pulling your child out of school overnight. It’s about shifting how you see learning,so you can start creating environments where your child actually thrives. Because the future won’t belong to the most compliant. It will belong to the most adaptable, curious, and self-led. And that starts at home. This is The Parent Educator Podcast.

Something is shifting... and you can feel it.

Something has been stirring. Maybe you can't name it yet. Maybe it feels like restlessness in a life that looks fine from the outside. Maybe it's the quiet pull toward something different - a different way of living, a different way of raising your children, a different version of what success is supposed to mean. Maybe you've been waking up at 3am. Feeling more emotional than usual. Questioning things you never questioned before?!?!! This episode is for you. Today I want to talk about what is actually happening right now - in the collective, in the cosmos, and in you. Because what you're feeling is not random. It is not a breakdown... And there is nothing wrong with you.  We are in the middle of one of the rarest astrological alignments of 2026 - the Barbault Basket. Named after French astrologer André Barbault, this configuration of Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto happening 19–22 July is something astrologers describe as marking the beginning of a new collective cycle. A new paradigm. And the energy of it is being felt - whether you follow astrology or not. In this episode I talk about: → What the Barbault Basket is and why the timing of this week matters for the collective shift we are all feeling → What happened the last time planetary cycles converged like this - and what that period of darkness was actually preparing us for → The Schumann Resonance - the earth's own frequency - and why your body may be responding to something bigger than your personal circumstances → Why the systems we were told to trust are cracking - and why that is exactly what's supposed to happen in a paradigm shift → What your restlessness, your sensitivity, and your pull toward something different are actually telling you → The shift from outside-in living to inside-out living - and what it means to lead from your internal compass instead of the script you were handed → Why the pull toward home education - toward a life of intention and freedom - is not idealism. It is alignment. → Why we need to drop the word "schooling" from homeschooling entirely - and what we're actually building when we raise children this way → And the core message of this whole episode: if you want a child who truly believes in themselves and trusts their own inner compass - it starts with you doing that first. This is not about having it all figured out... This IS about being willing to trust what's moving in you. To stop waiting for permission. To lead your family from the inside out!! We are literally in the middle of the shift right now. And you found this episode for a reason.

You can't be the tugboat... You have to be the lighthouse!

What happens when two women who dedicated their careers to the school system sit down and admit - honestly, openly - that they can't send their own daughters there? This week's conversation is with another incredible guest, Emma Gentle. Emma is also a former primary teacher, assistant principal, and school consultant who now works as an emotional intelligence and nervous system coach with mothers. We've both been inside the system. We've both led it. And we've both become mothers and found ourselves unable to unsee what we know. This episode is part interview, part honest conversation between two women who are still in it - still doing the inner work, still navigating the decisions, still figuring out what it means to lead their families from values instead of fear. We talk about: → How Emma left her AP role, built a business that "blew up," and then walked away from education clients entirely - because teachers were "handcuffed" and she couldn't keep watching it → What it means to be dysregulated - and why regulated doesn't mean calm (you can be angry and still regulated) → Why surface-level tools like breathing exercises don't work when the root hasn't been addressed → The real question to ask when your child is acting out: what is going on with me right now? → Emma's honest admission that even as a nervous system coach, she spent most of 2025 dysregulated - and what she did with that → What's actually holding Emma back from homeschooling her 5-year-old daughter - fear, logistics, community, and the very real work of unschooling yourself as a former teacher → How to know if you're making the homeschool decision from genuine alignment - or from fear → The tugboat vs lighthouse dynamic in relationships - and why trying to drag your partner toward your vision is the thing that slows everything down → Why partial enrolment usually doesn't work - and the real question to ask yourself if you're considering it → What the rise of the conscious mother actually means - and why this generation of women is the one to break the cycle This isn't a conversation about having it all figured out. It's about two women being honest about where they are, what they're still navigating, and what they know for sure. You can find Emma and her work on instagram - @em_gentle

She changed her mind...twice. And it was the most honest thing she ever did.

Have you ever made a decision for your child and then had to revisit it? Changed course, second-guessed yourself, wondered what it says about you that you didn't get it right the first time? This week I'm joined by Amy - mother of three, birth trauma healer, and someone who has navigated exactly that. Amy homeschooled her son Parker for kindergarten while the family travelled Australia in a caravan. Then she put him into school. And then, after watching him slowly unravel, she pulled him back out again. But this isn't just a story about school. It's an incredibly powerful story about what happens when you finally trust yourself again - and what it costs when you override that trust, even once. Amy also free-birthed her third baby at home - unassisted, no scans, no health professionals. And the thread running through all of it - the births, the school decision, pulling him back out - is the same thing. A woman learning, over and over again, to come back to herself. In this episode we go into: → The traumatic birth that broke her trust - and the healing birth that showed her what was possible → Why she free-birthed her third baby, and what years of inner work had to happen first → What it felt like in her body the day she walked Parker into school - despite believing her own school experience was fine → The plan she handed teachers on day one - and why the school slowly stopped following it → Watching her son walk lost among 58 kids in a double classroom and knowing → The afternoon his eyes rolled back in his head in the back seat of the car → The moment a teacher tried to physically pull her distressed son into the classroom - and what Amy said instead → Why the school's counsellor referral was a line she would not cross - and what her child protection background told her about who that process actually serves → How she and her partner navigated the decision when Andrew wasn't on board - and why his resistance turned out to be necessary → What motherhood activates in us - and why so many women realise after having a baby they're not meant to keep doing what they were doing before → And why changing your mind is not failure. It is one of the most honest things a mother can do. Amy's story is for the mother sitting in the discomfort of wondering if she made the right call. For the one trying to get her partner on board. And for the one who already knows - but hasn't found the courage to act yet. You don't have to get it right the first time. You just have to keep listening. "We've got her back" - What one teacher's research (and her daughter) taught her about leaving the system

What happens when the person who believed in the school system the most - the one who led it, shaped it, gave her career to it - becomes a mother and starts to see everything through a completely different lens? This week I'm joined by Charlotte Linde. Former teacher. Former Head of School. Worked internationally across New Zealand, Asia, and South Africa. Now living in regional NSW, homeschooling her two daughters, and completing her doctorate in education - researching something that barely exists in the literature yet: what happens when teachers leave the system and choose to home-educate their own children. But this isn't an academic episode. It's a human one. Charlotte watched her older daughter slowly deteriorate inside a private school - the light going out of her eyes, eczema appearing on her hands from stress, tears at drop-off. She felt guilt. She felt anger. She felt the full weight of having chosen the school that was breaking her child. And then she drew the line. This episode is about what happened next. The deschooling. The healing. The morning she heard her daughter walking down the hallway, singing - and knew: we got her back. We go into: → Charlotte's research and what the push-pull framework tells us about why teachers are leaving - and why it sounds exactly like what so many parents are already feeling → Why being a trained teacher can actually be a disadvantage when you start home learning - and why that's good news for every parent who isn't one → What deschooling actually looks like in real life (hint: it starts with coffee and a caramel slice, not curriculum) → Why Charlotte refuses to use the word "homeschooling" - and what changed when she stopped → The apology she gave her daughters - and why taking ownership was part of the healing → What real socialisation looks like when your children are living in the world instead of sitting in it → The moment her 13-year-old - who never used to raise her hand in class - told an adult: "I feel uncomfortable with that. I'm not going to do that." → Why the nervous system deems the familiar as safe, even when it's harmful - and what it actually takes to step out → Her youngest daughter completing Year 1 maths while laughing. A full year ahead. One-on-one. No pressure. → And why a Year 12 certificate and university might be worth questioning as the default endpoint for your child's life Charlotte also said something early in this conversation that I've been thinking about ever since: "I enjoy Sundays now. Because I know Monday isn't coming." That was her daughter. Thirteen years old. If you've ever had the feeling that something isn't right - for your child, for your family, for the life you're living - this episode is for you. Charlotte gives you the research, the lived experience, and the evidence that it is possible. You can get your child back. You can get yourself back. And you don't have to have it all figured out to begin. You can find Charlotte and her label on instagram : @zenandthen_thelabel Did something in this episode land for you? I'd love to know. Send me a DM on Instagram @allyyblanch_ and tell me the moment that hit. ⭐ If this conversation meant something to you - leave a rating and review. It takes 30 seconds and it's how other parents find us when they're searching for exactly this. Every review helps us reach the mother who needs to hear it. 📲 And if you know someone who needs this episode - send it to her. That's how this message spreads.

The permission you're waiting for isn't coming...

Over the last few months, I've been sitting with mothers who are questioning education, exploring homeschooling and feeling the pull towards something different for their family. And what I've realised is this: Very rarely is the real fear homeschooling. It's not curriculum. It's not socialisation. It's not whether their child will "fall behind." Underneath all of those concerns sits a much deeper question: Can I trust myself? Can I trust what I know about my child? Can I trust what I feel in my body? Can I trust myself to make decisions that look different from everyone around me? Can I trust that I don't need someone else to tell me I'm doing it right? In this episode, I explore how so many of us were conditioned away from our own knowing. How school, achievement, approval, authority and success taught us to seek answers outside ourselves. How attachment to outcomes creates suffering. And why self-trust may be one of the most important gifts we can model for our children. Because the future doesn't belong to the children who perfectly follow instructions. It belongs to the children who know how to think. Who know how to create. Who know how to trust themselves. And that begins with us. Inside this episode we explore: ✨ Why so many women struggle to trust themselves ✨ How school conditions us to seek external authority ✨ The hidden connection between attachment and self-trust ✨ Desire vs attachment and why they create completely different realities ✨ Why self-trust matters more than certainty ✨ How our children learn confidence, self-belief and resilience from watching us ✨ Why homeschooling is often a self-trust journey disguised as an education decision ✨ The role we play in raising children who can think independently and lead themselves Because maybe the real question isn't: "Can I trust myself to homeschool?" Maybe it's: "Can I trust myself?" And honestly, I think that's the real work. Reflection Questions 🤍 Where in your life are you currently seeking permission instead of trusting what you already know? 🤍 What outcome are you attaching your safety, happiness or success to right now? 🤍 What would become possible if you trusted yourself more deeply? 🤍 What are you modelling to your children about self-belief and self-trust? The real reason so many parents are being called to homeschool

What If Your Child Is Here To Help You Evolve? This week's episode is one of the most personal and reflective conversations I've shared on the podcast so far. What started as a conversation about homeschooling quickly became something much deeper. Because the more I walk this path, the more I realise that homeschooling hasn't asked me to become a better teacher. It's asked me to become a different person. A more trusting person. A more courageous person. A person willing to let go of control. In this episode, I share where our family is currently at as we prepare for a major move, navigate shifting identities and step further into a life that feels deeply aligned with who we are and what we're creating. I explore the relationship between control, safety, motherhood and self-trust, and how so many of us have unknowingly built our lives around managing uncertainty rather than truly living. We dive into: ✨ Why control is often a learned response to feeling unsafe ✨ How school, success, achievement and societal expectations can disconnect us from our own inner knowing ✨ Why motherhood amplifies everything we haven't yet healed ✨ The powerful ways our children mirror the parts of ourselves that are asking for growth ✨ Why homeschooling has become one of the greatest personal development journeys of my life ✨ The concept of "the opponent" - the inner voice that sounds like logic but often appears right before expansion ✨ Why I believe many of the children being born today are here to challenge old systems and invite us into a new way of living ✨ How becoming a Parent Educator is really about reclaiming trust in yourself, your child and your family's unique path This episode isn't really about education. It's about evolution. It's about recognising that our children may not be here simply for us to shape them. They may also be here to help shape us. Reflection Questions As you listen, I invite you to reflect on: 🤍 What am I currently trying to control that may actually be asking me to trust? 🤍 Where in my life am I seeking certainty instead of listening to my own inner knowing? 🤍 What is my child revealing about me that I haven't been willing to look at yet? 🤍 What would become possible if I trusted myself more deeply? The stories keeping you from the life you actually want and that you are here to create

Over the last few episodes, I've been sharing more about our decision to homeschool, move our family, and create a life that feels deeply aligned with who we are. But this episode goes even deeper. Because the truth is... the biggest obstacle is rarely homeschooling. It's rarely the move. It's rarely the business. It's rarely the money. More often than not, it's the stories we tell ourselves about what those things mean. In this episode, I share vulnerably about what my family and I are navigating right now as we prepare to move 10 hours away from everything we've known. The fears. The doubts. The conversations. The projections. The stories that appear when you're standing on the edge of a life that feels bigger than the one you've known before. I talk about how my husband Lachlan and I navigate uncertainty very differently. How he often seeks certainty, evidence and logic. How I've learned to trust intuition, inner knowing and the feeling that something is calling us forward before I can fully explain why. And how both of those perspectives have challenged and strengthened our relationship over the years. I also share some of the most pivotal moments of my own journey. Leaving a long-term relationship I thought would become marriage. Walking away from a version of success that looked right on paper. Leaving my role as an Assistant Principal with no backup plan. Letting go of businesses, offers and identities that no longer felt aligned. Supporting my family through difficult seasons while learning that I wasn't responsible for carrying everyone else's burdens. Every single one of those moments came with fear. Every single one came with stories. And every single one expanded my life in ways I couldn't have predicted. We also explore: • why fear often gets louder right before expansion • the concept of "the opponent" - the inner voice that tries to talk us out of what we already know is true • how to recognise the difference between fear and intuition • attachment styles, money and how they show up in relationships • what children learn when they watch parents navigate conflict, growth and uncertainty together • why homeschooling is about so much more than curriculum and academics • creating environments where families can grow, evolve and learn alongside one another Because ultimately... The goal isn't homeschooling. The goal isn't the move. The goal isn't even certainty. The goal is creating a life that feels true. A life where your children witness what it looks like to trust yourself, navigate challenge, communicate through differences and continue growing into who you're here to become. And in many ways... That's the most important education of all. I'd genuinely love to hear from you after listening. What resonated most? What part of this episode felt familiar in your own life?
