Episode 7: Making Room for Joy While You're Grieving

Send us Fan Mail This week, I found myself experiencing just about every emotion imaginable. One night I was laughing with friends, singing Christmas songs at Music Bingo, drinking wine, and completely living in the moment. A few days later, I was packing my daughter's belongings to send her off to college, standing in front of an almost-empty bedroom, trying to wrap my heart around the fact that this next chapter is finally here. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I realized something... Life doesn't ask us to choose between joy and grief. Sometimes it asks us to carry both. In this week's conversation, I'm sharing what this season of becoming an empty nester is teaching me, why I've started intentionally paying attention to the little moments that make up my week, and how I've learned that celebrating life's beautiful moments doesn't mean we're ignoring the hard ones. Sometimes we're simply learning how to make room for both. In this episode, we talk about: • Why I've started collecting everyday moments instead of letting them pass by • Finding unexpected joy during Christmas in July Music Bingo • Saying yes to new friendships and new experiences • Packing Brylee's room and preparing to send her to college • The bittersweet reality of becoming an empty nester • Why joy and grief can exist at the same time • Learning that home continues to evolve through every season of life • Giving yourself permission to feel every emotion without guilt This week's reflection: What two emotions are you carrying right now? Maybe you're celebrating something while grieving something else. Maybe you're excited about what's next while mourning what you're leaving behind. Whatever season you're in, give yourself permission to hold both. You don't have to choose. Episode 6: Nine Years Later...Coming Home to Myself

Send us Fan Mail Episode 6: Nine Years Later… Coming Home to MyselfNine years ago, I heard the words that changed my life forever: “You have breast cancer.” Every year on July 13th, I find myself reflecting on the woman I was that day—the woman who had absolutely no idea where life was about to take her, what she would survive, what she would lose, what she would rebuild, or who she would eventually become. But this year, my reflection led me somewhere I wasn't expecting. Home. After a double mastectomy, even your own home feels different. The everyday things you never think twice about—reaching into a cabinet, getting dressed, washing your hair, picking something up—suddenly require help. And for me, recovery brought another painful realization: I could be surrounded by the walls of my own home and still feel incredibly alone. Looking back nine years later, I realize that so much of my journey has been about finding my way home. Not just to a physical home. To myself. Cancer changed my relationship with my body. Recovery changed how I saw my home and my relationships. Divorce changed what home looked like again. And now, as I prepare to send my daughter off to college, home is about to change once more. Through every version of home, I've had to meet a new version of myself. Maybe you have too. In this very personal episode of Empowered Connections, I'm sharing why I've decided to press record again—perfectly imperfect—and why I believe our hardest chapters don't have to be where our stories end. Sometimes they're where we begin again. And maybe... just maybe... they're leading us home. In this episode, we talk about: My reflections nine years after my breast cancer diagnosisWhat no one prepares you for when you come home after major surgeryThe loneliness of not feeling supported—even in your own homeThe people who show up when you need them mostWhy I started sharing my breast cancer journeyHow Bustin' Out of Breast Cancer eventually evolved into Empowered ConnectionsStanding on your story instead of staying stuck in itHow cancer, divorce, motherhood, empty nesting, real estate, and reinvention have shaped my understanding of “home”Why I'm bringing the podcast back perfectly imperfectThe realization that sometimes coming home isn't about returning to who you were—it's about meeting who you've becomeSomething to think about: What chapter of your life have you been looking at as the end... when maybe it's actually leading you somewhere you can't see yet? And maybe it's leading you home. 💗 Continue the Conversation If you're navigating a new chapter, rebuilding, reinventing yourself, or simply trying to figure out who you are now, I'd love to welcome you into the Empowered Connections Facebook community. When Letting Go Doesn’t Look Like You Expected

Send us Fan Mail Some life transitions don’t happen the way we expect them to. In this episode of Empowered Connections, Shannon reflects on a deeply personal and timely moment — her daughter turning 18 — and the emotions that come with watching a chapter shift in real time. What was imagined as a meaningful milestone looked different than expected. Plans changed. Emotions surfaced. And with college decisions on the horizon, it became clear that this wasn’t just about a birthday — it was about letting go, evolving roles, and stepping into a new season.  In this episode, Shannon shares:  • The gap between expectations and reality during major life moments  • The emotional layers of motherhood transitions  • What “letting go” actually looks like in real time  • How to navigate change without losing connection  • The importance of releasing how we thought things should look  This is a grounded and honest reflection on the quieter side of transitions — the moments where nothing is “wrong,” but everything is changing. If you’re in a season where your role, relationships, or expectations are shifting, this episode offers perspective and permission to move through it with awareness and grace. Before you go, take a moment to ask yourself: Am I holding onto how I thought this should look… or am I open to what it’s becoming? And… What part of your story are you standing on today? Guided Through the Mess: Finding Clarity in Life’s Hardest Seasons

Send us Fan Mail In life’s hardest seasons, clarity doesn’t always come from thinking more — sometimes it comes from being guided through the mess. In this episode of Empowered Connections, Shannon is joined by her friend Michelle Sloan, a Reiki master, officiant, and energy practitioner who has helped guide her — and many others — through moments of uncertainty, overwhelm, and transition. This conversation explores what it actually looks like to move from emotional chaos to grounded clarity, and why so many women struggle to trust themselves during life’s most difficult chapters. Together, they discuss: • What it means to feel “stuck” during a life transition • Why the in-between season can feel so uncomfortable • How women can begin reconnecting with themselves • The role of energy work, intuition, and awareness in healing • Simple ways to ground yourself when life feels overwhelming This is not about having all the answers. It’s about learning how to listen to yourself again — and trusting that clarity will come as you move forward. Before you go, take a moment to ask yourself: What part of your story are you standing on today?
