The Romanovs: The Last Night – Five Children, a Basement and the End of an Empire Part 1

Part 1: For more than 300 years, the Romanovs ruled Russia, living in extraordinary luxury while an empire simmered with unrest. Then, in the early hours of 17 July 1918, their story reaches its devastating conclusion in a basement. But the deaths were only the beginning of the mystery. What happened to the bodies? Why did rumours persist that one of the children had survived? And who exactly was Anna Anderson, the woman who spent decades claiming to be the Grand Duchess Anastasia? We’ll untangle the impostors, the investigations and the extraordinary science that finally helped establish the truth.
