    31. The Golden State Killer

    This week, Mom takes us into one of the most terrifying and complicated crime sprees in California history — one that is literally close to home — the story of the man who would eventually become known as the Golden State Killer. But before he had that name, investigators knew him as the Visalia Ransacker, the East Area Rapist, and the Original Night Stalker. For years, communities across California were terrorized by a seemingly unknown offender responsible for burglaries, sexual assaults, and murders. His crimes stretched across different cities and jurisdictions, and it would take decades before investigators realized that several of these terrifying crime sprees were connected to the same man. Then, more than 40 years after his crimes began, advancements in DNA and genetic genealogy finally gave investigators the break they had been waiting for — leading them to former police officer Joseph James DeAngelo.     30. Grinning Man & Indrid Cold

    This week, Becca dives into the bizarre stories of The Grinning Man and the mysterious Indrid Cold. It begins in 1966, when two young boys in New Jersey reported seeing a strange man standing near a fence. He was unusually tall, dressed in a shiny green suit, and wore an enormous grin that never seemed to leave his face. Their encounter would become one of the most famous sightings of the figure now known as the Grinning Man. Then, we head to West Virginia, where salesman Woodrow “Woody” Derenberger claimed he came face-to-face with a strange man who introduced himself as Indrid Cold. What began as a bizarre encounter on a dark highway soon grew into a much stranger story involving repeated visits, telepathic conversations, and a mysterious place called Lanulos. Two bizarre stories unfolding hundreds of miles apart around the same time. But with the strange similarities between the figures described, could Indrid Cold and the Grinning Man be the same man? Could they both be Searchers from Lanulos? Or are they just entirely separate mysteries that we will forever wonder about?     29. Ladies in White

    This week, Mom and Becca are diving into something that seems to be in every haunted place… ladies in white. For generations, stories of mysterious women dressed entirely in white have appeared in ghost lore around the world. Different women, different tragedies, different places — but somehow, the same ghostly figure keeps appearing. Becca takes us across the Atlantic to Kinsale, Ireland, to tell the tragic story behind the White Lady of Kinsale, whose spirit is said to haunt the historic Charles Fort. Then, Mom heads to Old Gray Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee, where another mysterious Lady in White has become part of the cemetery’s haunted history.     28. Point Pinos Lighthouse

    This week, Mom takes us to the California coast to tell the story of Point Pinos Lighthouse — the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the West Coast. Standing in Pacific Grove since the 1850s, the lighthouse has spent generations guiding ships through the dark waters of Monterey Bay. But with that much history comes plenty of stories about those who may have never left. Mom dives into the history of the lighthouse, the people who once called it home, and the strange activity visitors and staff have reported over the years. A lighthouse still shining after more than 170 years, a history that lingers inside its walls, and a place Mom and Becca are both eager to call home!
