    Episode #5 - Jarrad Jones

Jarrad’s journey began in Brisbane, where the allure of military service significantly shaped his career aspirations. Inspired by the pride of military personnel during Anzac Day commemorations, he initially felt a strong desire to wear the uniform and serve his country. This early passion evolved when a conversation with a Royal Navy member encouraged him to explore opportunities within the Navy, leading him to pursue a career as an air crew officer. As an air crew officer, Jarrad operates the sensors on the MH-60R Seahawk helicopters, playing a crucial role in various missions, including anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue, and humanitarian aid. His work not only involves flying but also requires extensive training and preparation to ensure the safety and success of each mission. Jarrad emphasizes that understanding the responsibilities and challenges of military aviation is essential for anyone considering this pathway. Jarrad’s journey from a curious child to a leading seaman in the Navy exemplifies how passion, experience, and perseverance can lead to a successful career in aviation. For those aspiring to follow a similar path, his insights serve as a reminder of the importance of resilience and the impact of personal experiences in shaping career choices. Episode #2 - Blair Robertson

30 years in helicopter rescue. Countless high-pressure jobs. Now he’s the one selecting the next generation of aircrew.  Episode #2 of the Rescue Ready Podcast is live, and this is one every aspiring Rescue Crew Officer should hear.  I sat down with Blair Robertson, Chief Aircrew Officer at CHC Helicopter and Offshore Services Australasia, to unpack the realities of a career spent in helicopter rescue.  Blair’s journey began as a volunteer Rescue Crew Officer with Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad. Three decades later, he now oversees the standards, training and selection of operational aircrew.  That means he has seen this industry from both sides: the RCO hanging on the wire… and the leader deciding who is ready to wear the harness.  In this episode we discuss:  • Blair’s pathway from volunteer RCO to Chief Aircrew Officer  • The lessons that only years of real jobs can teach  • What helicopter rescue work is actually like behind the scenes  • The mistakes many aspiring candidates are making  • What employers are genuinely looking for in Rescue Crew applicants  If you are serious about helicopter rescue, there is a lot to take from this conversation.  Professionalism. Pressure. Standards. Longevity. Mindset.  And what it truly means to be Rescue Ready.  This is a public episode.
