    Because You've Been Conditioned

You can know a behavior is conditioned, rooted in systems you don't agree with, and still watch yourself do it anyway. This week's episode starts on the sidewalk — a decades-old protest of not stepping aside for men who expect the space — and follows that thread through proxemics, the mechanics of over-apologizing, a bartender whose pronouns you have to actively fight your own instincts to get right, and the uncomfortable math of whether any of it is enough to matter. It isn't a resolved conversation. It's not supposed to be. In this one: A lifelong pet peeve with spatial awareness, and the sidewalk rule that started it in college. Proxemics, and what it means that socially dominant groups are conditioned to expect more physical space. Driving somewhere so familiar your mind checks out entirely. The difference between actually being wrong and just being conditioned to apologize anyway. A bartender, a pronoun, and the real-time labor of getting it right. What it means that Band-Aids were never made with your skin in mind. Boycotting one store while still ordering from Amazon, and whether that counts as doing your part. Crawling before you walk, walking before you run — and why the small stuff is the foundation, not the consolation prize. "Why would I apologize? I have not moved. You wanna know why you apologize? Because you've been conditioned that way." New episode is up — pull up a seat. Follow @whileivegotyou for more. Full episode wherever you listen.

    Good Uninformed People

Have you ever met someone who said something a little off and instantly clocked them as a risk to your reputation before you'd learned a single other thing about them? That's the tension sitting at the center of this episode. In Good Uninformed People, Gabby Turner gets into something that's been on her mind since a conversation on Drew Afualo's podcast The Comment Section, where Afualo and comedian Ida Osman talked about how quickly we've all defaulted to canceling instead of extending grace. Between that conversation and her own experience moving to LA at 24 essentially knowing one person, plus a close friend now doing the same thing in New York, Gabby started wondering whether cancel culture itself is part of why building adult friendships feels so hard right now. This episode is not about predators, racists, or the people who genuinely should stay at arm's length — it's about good, uninformed people, the ones capable of actually changing once they have the information in front of them. Gabby unpacks the "LA transplants are fake" narrative and catches herself making the exact same snap judgment she's arguing against in real time, tells the story of a comment at a Super Bowl party that ended a new friendship before it started, and admits to a recurring fear of her own that traces back to a middle school Facebook message signed hashtag no skittles. The episode doesn't land on a clean answer — it ends on the question of how much of our difficulty building community is really just our own relationship to the fear of being canceled.
