Somerset County: Flight 93, Mountain Escapes & Maple Country

Twenty-five years after September 11, 2001, Somerset County, Pennsylvania remains forever connected to the story of Flight 93. In this episode of Tonight's Destination with The Fun Chasers, we’re joined by Eric Knopsnyder, Director of Public Relations and Community Outreach for GO Laurel Highlands, to explore the history, resilience and experiences that make Somerset County such a unique Pennsylvania destination. We begin with the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, reflecting on the significance of the 25th anniversary of September 11 and how the story of Flight 93 continues to be shared with new generations. We also visit another remarkable chapter in Somerset County history: the Quecreek Mine Rescue, where nine miners were trapped underground in 2002 and, after an extraordinary rescue effort, all nine came home alive. But those stories are only part of Somerset County. We also discover the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) and its trail towns, including Meyersdale, Rockwood and Confluence; head into the mountains for outdoor adventures; talk about Seven Springs Mountain Resort and four-season fun; discover historic covered bridges; and explore the small towns and beautiful scenery that make this corner of Pennsylvania worth slowing down for. And we can't talk about Somerset County without talking about maple syrup! Somerset County is Pennsylvania's leading maple-producing county, with generations of maple-making traditions, working sugar camps and the annual Pennsylvania Maple Festival in Meyersdale. From powerful American history and stories of resilience to mountain adventures, biking, skiing, covered bridges, maple country and small-town discoveries, Somerset County has much more to experience than many travelers realize. This Denver Museum Has No Walls… And That’s the Point

What if a museum didn’t have walls? On this episode of Tonight’s Destination with The Fun Chasers, we’re heading to the Denver area to explore the Museum of Outdoor Arts, where sculpture, gardens, live music and public spaces come together to make art part of everyday life. Founded in 1981, the Museum of Outdoor Arts has grown into a unique collection of outdoor art throughout Greenwood Village, Englewood and the Denver metro area, creating what MOA calls a “museum without walls.” Our guests are Sky Madden, grandson of MOA founders John and Marjorie Madden, and Julie Savannah-Digby, who helps bring live music and special events to Marjorie Park. Sky takes us inside the Madden family story and the vision that helped create the Museum of Outdoor Arts, Marjorie Park and Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre. We’ll hear how a family’s passion for art grew into something that has become part of the Denver-area landscape. And you can’t talk about Fiddler’s Green without talking about its incredible Panoramic Living Mural. Nearly 35,000 living plants and flowers are hand-planted each year, creating a massive, ever-changing work of art around the amphitheatre while also providing habitat for butterflies and other pollinators. 🌸🦋 Then Julie takes us into the music! 🎶 Marjorie Park isn’t just home to outdoor sculpture and beautiful gardens. Throughout the season, it becomes a live entertainment venue with concerts, festivals and special events surrounded by art.
