Twin Mum Guilt: Why You Never Feel Like You're Doing Enough | With Psychologist & Twin Mum Mirinda Smith

You spend so much time imagining what motherhood will look like. The coffee dates. The playgroups. The family outings. The version of motherhood you pictured in your head. Then twins arrive, and suddenly the reality can feel very different. In this episode, we're joined by psychologist and twin mum Mirinda Smith from Satya Psychology for an honest conversation about the parts of twin motherhood that often catch us off guard. We discuss the grief that can come with letting go of the motherhood you expected, why so many twin mums feel like they're never doing enough, the mental load of raising multiples, overstimulation, mum guilt, identity shifts, and the pressure to constantly improve ourselves. Most importantly, we explore a powerful idea that kept coming up throughout this conversation: what if you're not actually doing anything wrong? Whether you're in the newborn trenches, chasing twin toddlers, or simply feeling overwhelmed by the weight of motherhood, this episode is a reminder that you're not alone, you're not failing, and you might be carrying far more than you realise. In this episode we discuss: The reality of twin motherhood versus the expectations we carry into itWhy mum guilt feels impossible to escapeOverstimulation, rage and the mental load of raising twinsThe identity shift that happens when you become a motherGrieving the motherhood experience you thought you'd haveWhy acceptance can be more powerful than constantly trying to "fix" yourselfPractical ways to support your mental health during the early yearsWe laughed, reflected, unpacked a few uncomfortable truths, and walked away with a few reminders we probably needed to hear ourselves. Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS): Cara's High-Risk Twin Pregnancy Journey

When Cara found out she was expecting identical twin girls, she had no idea her pregnancy would become a fight to bring them safely into the world. Just weeks after discovering she was carrying twins, Cara was diagnosed with Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) — a rare and potentially life-threatening condition that affects identical twins who share a placenta. What followed was a pregnancy filled with uncertainty, weekly monitoring, specialist consultations, 48 scans, and the constant fear of losing one or both babies. In this deeply emotional episode, Cara shares her experience navigating TTTS, selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR), and a high-risk twin pregnancy that tested her resilience in ways she never imagined. We discuss: What Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) actually isThe early warning signs and diagnosis processLiving scan-to-scan during a high-risk pregnancyThe emotional toll of uncertainty and loss of controlWhen surgery is an option — and when it isn'tManaging anxiety while carrying high-risk twinsReaching viability and preparing for an early deliveryThe reality of bringing twins into the world after months of fearCara's story is a powerful reminder of the strength parents find when faced with the unimaginable, and a source of hope for anyone currently navigating a complicated twin pregnancy.
