Episode 28: How Money Stress Is Quietly Affecting Your Mental Health

🧠💸 Be honest... when was the last time your finances made you feel genuinely okay? Not just manageable, but actually okay? For a lot of us, money stress isn't a once-in-a-while thing. It's the 3am spiral. The stomach drop when you check your account. The smile you paste on at dinner while your brain is running numbers in the background. In Episode 28, we're going there – because the connection between your money and your mental health is real, it's documented, and it is absolutely not your personal failure. We talk about what financial stress actually does to your brain and nervous system, why shame keeps so many of us white-knuckling our situations alone, and the very real economic reality that people our age are up against: starter homes averaging over $300,000, wages that haven't kept pace, and a cost of living that makes "just budget better" genuinely insulting advice. We also cover what financial anxiety actually looks like day to day (hint: it's sneakier than you think), practical tools for moving through it, and a community idea I'd love your input on. 💛 ⚠️ If you or someone you know is struggling with their mental health, please call or text 988 – the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7. You are not alone, and we want you here. 🔗 LINKS & RESOURCES 🎙️ All podcast episodes: https://thefinanceangel.org/podcast 🎁 Free Financial Reset Starter Guide: https://us.bigin.online/org927659317/forms/free-financial-workbook-download-and-email-signup 🛍️ Template Shop: https://thefinanceangel.org/shop ☕ Support the podcast: https://thefinanceangel.gumroad.com/coffee 📩 Listener Question Form: https://forms.gle/HFAsbQut3VMgACUV7 🔗 All socials & contact: https://thefinanceangel.org/connect ⚖️ Disclaimers: https://thefinanceangel.org/disclaimers 📚 EPISODE REFERENCES & RESOURCES APA Stress in America Survey – apa.org/news/press/releases/stress Scarcity: Why Having Too Little Means So Much – Mullainathan & Shafir (2013) Affect Labeling Research – Torre & Lieberman (2018), Emotion Review Financial Therapy Association –  financialtherapyassociation.org 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline – call or text 988 | 988lifeline.org NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) – nami.org NFCC (National Foundation for Credit Counseling) – nfcc.org CFPB Free Financial Tools – consumerfinance.gov New episodes drop every Wednesday & Friday – subscribe so you never miss one! 🤍

Episode 27: Your Financial Reset: What Actually Changes When You Do The Work

Here's something nobody really tells you when you start working on your finances: the first shifts you feel aren't in your bank account. They're in you. 💚 In this episode of Financial Reset with The Finance Angel, we're getting real about what actually changes when you do the work — not the highlight reel version, but the quiet, internal shifts that sneak up on you before the numbers ever catch up. I'm sharing something personal in this one 🙋 — how I went from using buy now, pay later for almost everything to it being completely a thing of the past. Getting to the other side of it changed how I relate to my money in a way I didn't expect. Less "wait, why is there $60 less in my account than yesterday?" 😅 More clarity. More peace. We're also into one of the biggest finance tips I push back on — the idea that you need to tackle everything at once to make real progress. Spoiler: you don't. Burnout is real, and we're not doing that here. 🙅 We're building something sustainable. And if you've been watching someone else hit a milestone that feels far away? This episode is for you. Your timeline is your own. Your chapter 3 is not their chapter 12. 💛 📌 In this episode: — What "doing the work" actually looks like — Why internal shifts come before external results — My personal BNPL experience (it was harder than expected 😬) — Why going full steam ahead often leads to burnout — Signs the work is working even when you can't see it yet 🔗 LINKS & RESOURCES 🎧 All Podcast Episodes: https://thefinanceangel.org/podcast 🎵 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2LW5XQLrnEnqD0mGdXszR1 🍎 Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/financial-reset-with-the-finance-angel/id1885621115 🛍️ Templates & Tools: https://thefinanceangel.gumroad.com 🎁 Free Financial Reset Starter Guide: https://us.bigin.online/org927659317/forms/free-financial-workbook-download-and-email-signup ☕ Support the Podcast: https://thefinanceangel.gumroad.com/coffee ❓ Submit a Listener Question: https://forms.gle/HFAsbQut3VMgACUV7 🌐 All Socials + Contact: https://thefinanceangel.org/connect 📋 Disclaimers: https://thefinanceangel.org/disclaimers 📚 REFERENCES Consumer Financial Protection Bureau — BNPL Research: consumerfinance.gov American Psychological Association — Financial Stress: apa.org National Endowment for Financial Education: nefe.org Investopedia — "Buy Now, Pay Later: What It Is, How It Works": investopedia.com "The Psychology of Money" — Morgan Housel New episodes of Financial Reset with The Finance Angel drop every Wednesday & Friday 🎙️ Subscribe so you never miss one! 💚

Episode 26: Where Your Money Is Actually Going (And Why You Feel Out of Control)

Have you ever gotten paid and felt dread instead of relief? Like the money hit your account and you almost didn't want to look at it – because somewhere, deep down, you already knew it would be gone before you could blink? Yeah. Me too. And in this episode, we're finally talking about it. Episode 26 of Financial Reset with The Finance Angel is all about the financial audit – not the scary, spreadsheet-induced kind, but the kind that actually helps you understand the story your money is telling about your life. We're going section by section through your spending, sitting with how each expense makes you feel, and asking the real question: does this align with who I actually am right now? I'm sharing my own experience going from paycheck-to-negative every single month – Starbucks every morning, forgotten subscriptions, lashes, food delivery, Buy Now Pay Later plans, all of it – and how taking a psychology of money course cracked something open for me that no budget spreadsheet ever could. My audit is still ongoing (and probably always will be), but I am no longer making money decisions from a place of anxiety. And that shift changed everything. We also talk about why cutting out ALL your fun spending in the name of debt payoff is a recipe for burnout – and why celebrating your progress, even with just $20 or $30, is not irresponsible. It's how you actually make lasting change. In this episode: Why payday anxiety is a thing (and what it's really telling you) How to approach your finances by sections of your life instead of one overwhelming number The values alignment check: does this expense actually reflect who you are? Why rewards and self-celebration are part of your financial strategy, not opposed to it Three action steps you can take this week without spiraling This is your permission slip to look at your money – with curiosity, with kindness, and without shame. 🎧 LISTEN & SUBSCRIBE Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2LW5XQLrnEnqD0mGdXszR1 Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/financial-reset-with-the-finance-angel/id1885621115 Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/b7811bde-0d8f-4024-8e5f-6b8c6a2719b2/financial-reset-with-the-finance-angel iHeart: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-financial-reset-with-the-f-327055581 Goodpods: https://goodpods.com/podcasts/financial-reset-with-the-finance-angel-725973 All podcast links: https://thefinanceangel.org/podcast 📩 FREE FINANCIAL RESET STARTER GUIDE https://us.bigin.online/org927659317/forms/free-financial-workbook-download-and-email-signup 🛍️ TEMPLATE SHOP https://thefinanceangel.gumroad.com ☕ SUPPORT THE PODCAST https://thefinanceangel.gumroad.com/coffee 📬 SUBMIT A LISTENER QUESTION https://forms.gle/HFAsbQut3VMgACUV7 🔗 ALL SOCIAL MEDIA & CONTACT INFO https://thefinanceangel.org/connect 📋 SERVICES https://thefinanceangel.org/services ⚠️ DISCLAIMERS https://thefinanceangel.org/disclaimers 📚 REFERENCES & RESOURCES Housel, Morgan. Episode 25: The Hidden Ways You’re Leaking Money (Without Realizing It)

Have you ever looked at your bank account and thought… where did it all go? You didn't do anything dramatic. You didn't make some big, irresponsible purchase. But somehow, money just keeps disappearing — and you can't quite figure out why. That's what money leaks are. Not the big stuff. The quiet stuff. The automatic charges you forgot you signed up for. The fees you've been paying so long they feel normal. The lifestyle upgrades that crept in so gradually you didn't even notice they happened. In today's episode of Financial Reset with The Finance Angel, we are breaking all of it down — and more importantly, we're talking about what to actually do about it. Here's something I have to be honest about: I forget to cancel free trials way more often than I should probably admit. Every other month, I lose $65 or more on a charge I fully intended to cancel and just… didn't. And I talk about money for a living. So if it happens to me, it can absolutely happen to you — and there is zero shame in that. We go through the five most common money leaks: forgotten subscriptions, banking fees you don't have to pay, lifestyle inflation that crept up on you, carrying a credit card balance, and unused memberships and service add-ons. We also dig into the psychology behind why these leaks happen — because it's not about being careless. It's about how our brains are wired. And I push back on the advice that every lifestyle upgrade is irresponsible. Not all of them are. Intentional spending is not the same as wasteful spending. The goal is awareness — knowing what you're paying for and making sure it's actually what you want to be paying for. By the end of this episode you'll have a simple Money Leak Audit framework you can do in an afternoon, and a plan for what to do with the money you free up. The lightbulb moment is waiting. Let's get into it. 🔗 Free Financial Reset Starter Guide: https://us.bigin.online/org927659317/forms/free-financial-workbook-download-and-email-signup🔗 Submit a Listener Question: https://forms.gle/HFAsbQut3VMgACUV7🔗 All Episodes: https://thefinanceangel.org/podcast🔗 Shop Digital Products: https://thefinanceangel.gumroad.com🔗 Work With Me: https://thefinanceangel.org/services🔗 Find Me on Socials: https://thefinanceangel.org/connect🔗 Support the Podcast: https://thefinanceangel.gumroad.com/coffee New episodes drop every Wednesday and Friday — subscribe so you never miss one! 💚 📚 REFERENCES & RESOURCES FOR LISTENERS Want to dig deeper into anything we talked about today? Money, Power, & Patterns, Episode 2: Anna Delvey

She had no money. No trust fund. No inheritance. Just the audacity to act like she did, and an entire city that believed her. Anna Delvey (born Anna Sorokin) spent years convincing New York's elite that she was a wealthy German heiress with a $60 million fortune, scamming banks, luxury hotels, and people she called friends out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. And when it all came apart? She turned her own fraud conviction into a brand, a Netflix series, and an art career. But this episode isn't really about Anna. It's about the patterns underneath her story, because the psychology that powered her scheme shows up in everyday financial behavior more than most of us would like to admit. In this episode of Financial Reset with The Finance Angel, we run Anna Delvey through the Fraud Triangle (pressure, opportunity, rationalization), unpack the invincibility complex and entitlement at the core of her behavior, and land on the one everyday money pattern that connects her $60 million con to something a lot of us have done ourselves. Money, Power & Patterns drops the first Friday of every month. This is Episode 002. IN THIS EPISODE: → My vibe check on Anna Delvey, and why this energy is more familiar than we'd like to think → What the Fraud Triangle reveals about why her scheme worked for as long as it did → The self-imposed pressure behind her fraud (and how it mirrors everyday overspending) → Social proof - what it is, why our brains trust it, and how Anna weaponized it → Her rationalization: "I deserve this life. I'm just becoming what I already am." → The mirror moment: the small, everyday, completely legal version of her con → Three things to take with you into your own financial life LINKS & RESOURCES: 🎙️ All podcast episodes: https://thefinanceangel.org/podcast 📩 Free Financial Reset Starter Guide: https://us.bigin.online/org927659317/forms/free-financial-workbook-download-and-email-signup 🛍️ Shop digital resources: https://thefinanceangel.gumroad.com 💛 Support the podcast: https://thefinanceangel.gumroad.com/coffee ❓ Submit a listener question: https://forms.gle/HFAsbQut3VMgACUV7 🔗 Socials, contact & affiliate links: https://thefinanceangel.org/connect 📋 Disclaimers: https://thefinanceangel.org/disclaimers REFERENCES & FURTHER READING: Pressler, Jessica. Episode 24: The Reset Mindset That Changes Everything

Episode 24 might be the pep talk your wallet (and your nervous system) has been waiting for. We're talking about the one thing that has to shift before any budget, debt payoff plan, or savings goal will actually stick... your mindset. Not in a toxic positivity, "just think happy thoughts" kind of way. In a real, honest, this is why it feels so hard kind of way. I'm getting personal in this one. We're talking money shame, financial anxiety, the calls we avoid making because the vulnerability feels like too much, and why your future self is counting on you to do it anyway. If you've ever closed a banking app mid-scroll because you just couldn't deal, this episode is for you. We also dig into money scripts (those deeply held beliefs about money that were probably handed to you before you even had your own bank account) and what it actually looks like to start rewriting them. ✨ In this episode: Why mindset comes before every other financial moveWhat a money script is and how to spot yoursThe scarcity mindset trap (and how it keeps you stuck)Practical ways to reset your money mindset starting todayWhy your future self is worth the uncomfortable steps you're avoiding right now 🎁 Grab your free Financial Reset Starter Guide — it's the no-pressure starting point you've been looking for:👉 https://us.bigin.online/org927659317/forms/free-financial-workbook-download-and-email-signup 🛍️ Resources mentioned in this episode: 💜 Money Block Release & Manifestation Guide — work through the emotional blocks holding you back from your financial goals→ https://thefinanceangel.gumroad.com/l/GUIDES-MB 📊 Budget Templates & Digital Tools — simple, realistic tools to help you implement what resonated today→ https://thefinanceangel.gumroad.com ☕ Love the show? Episode 23: The Financial Shame Cycle in 6 Minutes

That heavy, sinking feeling when you check your bank account? It has a name, and it's not what you think. In this episode, we're talking about the shame cycle: the sneaky pattern where a small financial slip-up spirals into guilt, then shame, then avoidance, and eventually, more of the very behavior you were trying to stop. Here's the thing nobody tells you: guilt says "I did something bad." Shame says "I am bad." That one-word difference is the reason so many of us stop opening our banking app, stop checking our balance, and stop talking about money altogether… not because we don't care, but because it feels safer not to look. If you've ever felt behind compared to people your age, or told yourself "I should know better" after a purchase, this episode is for you. We're breaking down exactly how the shame cycle works, why it keeps you stuck, and, most importantly;  three small, judgment-free awareness practices you can start using today to interrupt it. No full financial overhaul required. Just one small, doable shift. You are not behind. You are not broken. You just weren't given the tools yet, and that's exactly what Financial Reset with The Finance Angel is here to change. 🎧 New episodes drop every Wednesday and Friday. 🌟 Start Here Financial Reset Starter Guide (Free) - a simple, supportive starting point if you're feeling overwhelmed with money 👉 https://us.bigin.online/org927659317/forms/free-financial-workbook-download-and-email-signup 💖 Budget Templates & Digital Products Ready to put this episode into action? Episode 22: Why Being "Rich" Won’t Fix Your Financial Anxiety

Have you ever thought, "if I just made more money, I wouldn't stress about money anymore"? Same. But in this episode, we're breaking down why that's not actually how it works, and what does. We're getting into hedonic adaptation (the reason that raise or windfall feels amazing for about five minutes and then your brain just... resets), lifestyle creep (why the financial pressure doesn't disappear as your income grows, it just changes shape), and money scripts: the unconscious beliefs about money we picked up as kids that quietly run the show no matter what our bank account says. I'll share a relatable story of what this actually looks like day to day, plus five real, research-backed things that help build genuine financial peace: awareness over avoidance, identifying your own money scripts, separating feelings from facts, building systems you can trust, and knowing when to get outside support.
