A podcast series showcasing the work of first-time audio documentary makers!  Created by participants in Met Radio’s Audio Documentary Incubator workshop series, these evocative audio documentaries will take you on a journey from a tattoo shop in the prairies to Sankofa Square in downtown Toronto. You’ll get an intimate look into choir practices and house parties across the city, and find yourself amongst the crowds at football watch parties and queer country shows. From bird watching in High Park to the streets of little Jamaica, stopping at rec league basketball games and tenants rallies in between, each piece delivers a sound-rich snapshot of the people and places that make this city (and beyond) special, in twenty minutes or less.  Produced at Met Radio 1280 AM in downtown Toronto. This program was funded by the Community Radio Fund of Canada’s Radiometres grant.

In Beyond the Court, host Israa Barzak explores the popularity of women's basketball in the wake of a historic year.     Tales from the Endz

    Gentrification is changing the history and culture of Toronto Black communities like Little Jamaica . The situation requires attention because of new developments and transit routes like the Eglinton Crosstown LRT that has recently opened after a lengthy period of construction work. Due to gentrification, the neighborhood's African and Caribbean community are experiencing increased threats from rising costs, business shutdowns and loss of cultural heritage. By talking to someone from the community, we discover solutions through community-based approaches which include community land trusts, equitable development initiatives, and cultural heritage protection programs.     From the Climate

    After years of behind-the-scenes housing advocacy, local activist group Climate Justice Toronto has gone public with a new focus on tenant organizing. As of April, the group has joined forces with other housing advocacy groups to help launch a citywide tenants’ union in Toronto.     Backstitch

    Backstitch is a short documentary exploring one woman's journey from learning to sew as a young girl in Iran to building a new life in Canada through tailoring. Through memories of migration, family, and the quiet artistry of working with fabric by hand, the documentary reflects on resilience and the skills passed between generations. Like the sewing technique it is named after, Backstitch moves backward and forward through time, tracing how she stitched together a livelihood, a home, and a lasting legacy for her family.
