Jack Whaley Wins U.S. Amateur at Merion: Champion on His Historic Victory & Walker Cup

In this edition of “Talking Golf with Ann Liguori,” Ann catches up with newly crowned U.S. Amateur champion Jack Whaley just one day after his life-changing victory at historic Merion Golf Club. Whaley, the 22-year-old Englishman and rising senior at Florida State, joins Ann from the passenger seat during a road trip south — and, no, he wasn’t driving! Whaley talks about the emotions of capturing the Havemeyer Trophy, defeating Jay Leng Jr. 4 & 3 in the 36-hole final, and how growing up playing golf in England prepared him perfectly for Sunday’s rainy, demanding conditions at Merion. He also shares the pivotal advice his FSU coach gave him during the lunch break, the role his father played throughout his journey, and his excitement about representing Great Britain & Ireland in the upcoming Walker Cup at Lahinch in Ireland.  It’s a revealing conversation with one of amateur golf’s newest stars, less than 24 hours after the biggest victory of his young career. Ann also talks about her friendship with pitching great Tommy John, who passed away at the age of 83.

In honor of RUSH's return Tour, Ann re-airs two special, in-depth interviews with RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson

On the heels of RUSH’s triumphant return to Madison Square Garden on their Fifty Something Tour, Ann reaches into her archives for two very special conversations with legendary RUSH guitarist and passionate golfer Alex Lifeson. The first, from June 2020, came just months after the passing of his dear friend and bandmate Neil Peart. Alex opens up about his heartbreak and why he couldn’t pick up a guitar for months. Fast forward to July 2025, and Alex was energized, creative and busier than ever, just months before RUSH announced their return to the stage. “You never know where life’s going to take you,” Alex said. Those words couldn’t be more fitting today.
