    October, it’s Dealer’s Choice, and for our Last Century pick we’re going straight into the questionable science department with FROM BEYOND (1986)! Because apparently regIt’sular orgasms weren’t enough. This week, Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton and Ken Foree join us for a scientific experiment involving a machine called The Resonator, designed to stimulate the pineal gland and allow humans to see into another dimension. And listen…IT WORKS. Unfortunately, instead of everybody saying, “Cool. Shut that shit down immediately,” our scientists discover that firing up the ole brain dick feels fantastic — and suddenly everybody is chasing brain orgasms, scientific discovery and SCIENCE FAME like ethics, workplace safety and interdimensional monsters are merely suggestions. We get: 🧠 Scientists desperately trying to bust a mental nut🏆 An absolutely irresponsible thirst for SCIENCE FAME👀 Monsters you can see…and unfortunately monsters that can see YOU🔥 Barbara Crampton making another glorious GNR appearance🚨 Ken Foree just trying to survive the worst overtime assignment imaginable🍆 A pineal gland receiving WAY too much screen time🧪 And an entire scientific team learning the timeless lesson: Just because you CAN stimulate a previously dormant sensory organ doesn’t mean you SHOULD.     Dead End Jobs Month is clocking out with Sequel Week and See No Evil 2 — a movie that teaches us one very important lesson: If your shift ends on your birthday…GO THE F**K HOME. 🎂⏰ Birthday Girl is TEN MINUTES away from freedom when a pile of fresh bodies rolls into the morgue and she decides to stay and help. Girl. No. Your friends are waiting. Drinks are waiting. Your birthday is waiting. WORK WILL BE THERE TOMORROW. Unfortunately, so will KILLER KANE. 😬 And because apparently nobody in this movie understands appropriate workplace boundaries, her friends decide to bring the birthday party TO THE MORGUE. We’ve got cake, drinks, questionable decisions, a Murder Groupie doing entirely too much, and one Thirsty Co-Worker who has clearly been waiting for his Hallmark-movie moment. Which brings us to lesson #2: If you like your coworker, SAY SOMETHING.     Re-Post: Dr. Giggles

    Sometimes the dead-end job is retail. Sometimes it’s corporate America. And sometimes…you’re an escaped lunatic who decides to reopen the family medical practice with zero credentials, questionable equipment, and a murder bag full of instruments. I needed a week off from living, so for Dead End Jobs Month we’re clocking back into one of my favorite GNR episodes: 1992’s Dr. Giggles — because if pretending to be a doctor while terrorizing your hometown isn’t a career with limited growth potential, I don’t know what is. Larry Drake gives us a villain who giggles constantly, speaks almost exclusively in medical puns, and somehow makes every ordinary doctor’s tool look deeply threatening. Meanwhile Holly Marie Combs is just trying to survive being a teenager with a heart condition while everybody around her makes increasingly terrible decisions. In this one we get: 🩺 A doctor who absolutely did NOT graduate medical school
💉 Medical instruments being used wildly outside manufacturer recommendations
❤️ More heart problems than any teenager should reasonably have to deal with
🎡 Carnival chaos
🏚️ A family business that should have stayed permanently closed

    Sometimes you gotta be a Risky Bitch! Dead End Jobs Month rolls into #BlackWeek, and this week we’re clocking in at CULTURE, where it’s 1989 Los Angeles, the music is hot, the ambition is hotter, and apparently success comes with one very specific dress code: Girl…what are we doing with that hair? In Bad Hair (2020), our girl QUEEN is talented, broke, freshly heartbroken and trying to survive the mean streets of the entertainment industry, where having a great idea is nice — but having the “right” look might get you through the door faster. Enter the hottest new weave in LA. And baby, this is not a low-maintenance relationship. This hair needs attention.This hair has EXPECTATIONS.This hair said, “You wanted success? Cool. Feed me.” As Queen starts climbing the ladder, Bad Hair digs into fame, beauty standards, assimilation, workplace politics and what happens when becoming “marketable” starts costing a little too damn much. In this one we get: 💇🏾‍♀️ Natural hair in late-’80s LA apparently being treated like an act of rebellion.📺 Black entertainment TV, office politics and everybody fighting for their shot.👑 Vanessa Williams serving Beauty Queen Boss excellence.💰 A serious thirst for fame, money and success.🪞 A reminder that changing your hair doesn’t automatically change how you feel about yourself.😬 And a weave with more needs than a full-time boyfriend. At its heart, Bad Hair is about learning to love yourself in an industry constantly telling you who you need to become. Because sometimes the glow-up isn’t the new hair. Sometimes the glow-up is realizing you were already the shit before they told you otherwise. So grease your scalp, protect your edges and remember: do YOU. TRY NOT TO DIE. 🧛🏾‍♂️📊 September’s Dead End Jobs Month continues with our #ThisCenturyWeek pick, 2015’s Bloodsucking Bastards — a movie that asks the important question: What if corporate’s solution to low productivity was simply…vampires? Fran Kranz officially returns to GNR after surviving The Cabin in the Woods as our beloved Astute Stoner — GNR Episode 30 — and apparently all that survival instinct has earned him a Dead End Job in an office selling…whatever the f**k they sell. He’s joined by Pedro Pascal as SEXY BOSS DRAC, the slick new manager who arrives ready to increase sales, boost productivity and whip this office full of slackers into shape. And listen — the man has GOALS. This week we get: 🧛🏾 A Sexy Corporate Dracula who is very serious about those quarterly numbers 📉 ALMOST ACTING MANAGER, thirsty for a promotion despite not necessarily possessing…managerial excellence 🥪 SLACKER BESTIE, terrible at his job but surprisingly good at noticing when shit around the office starts getting weird 💰 F*****G CHAD, because there is no horror greater than corporate leadership screaming MORE MONEY! 🥤 GO FOR ROBERT, our Red Bull-loving security guard who may be taking this job more seriously than everyone else combined ❤️ HR EX, because nothing improves an already miserable workday like unresolved romantic tension ☎️ An office full of employees committed to doing the absolute minimum 📈 And a mysterious spike in workplace productivity that should probably have somebody asking a few questions… Because when your new boss is hot, ambitious and possibly more interested in your blood than your sales numbers, that Monday morning staff meeting hits a little different. Bloodsucking Bastards gives us corporate greed, office politics, romantic foolishness, workplace slackery, Pedro Pascal being distractingly sexy and a company culture that desperately needs an anonymous HR survey.     92. Chopping Mall

    September is here, Labor Day is upon us, and Ghost Ninja Raccoon is celebrating the workforce the only way we know how: WELCOME TO DEAD END JOBS MONTH.Clock in. Try not to die. We’re kicking things off with our #LastCentury pick, 1986’s CHOPPING MALL, where corporate decides the local mall needs some fancy new robot security guards and — shockingly — it’s the hourly employees who end up dealing with the consequences. Eight mall workers stay behind after closing for a little drinking, hooking up and furniture-store foolishness. Unfortunately, one lightning strike turns the mall’s fancy new Killbots into the most aggressive loss-prevention team in retail history. In this one we get: A furniture-store party that proves you should GO HOME WHEN YOUR SHIFT ENDS Three Killbots with wildly inconsistent laser settings A mall sporting goods store stocked with approximately 700 guns and apparently zero locks, cases or questions Peak mall nostalgia: Things Remembered for a personalized trinket nobody needed and Orange Julius for a drink nobody could explain A Bad Idea Nerd who knew this party was some b******t from the beginning And one Final Girl who apparently looked at those Killbots and said, “Fine. I’ll do it my damn self.” Was Chopping Mall worth clocking in for? Mostly because our Final Girl came ready to WORK. ⭐️ GNR Rating: 2.5/5 UP NEXT: We punch the clock for our #ThisCentury pick with Bloodsucking Bastards.     91. Psycho 2

    Family Horror Month is coming to a close, and for #SequelWeek we are heading back to the Bates Motel for 1983’s Psycho II — because apparently 22 years of psychiatric care is enough to send Norman Bates back home to the exact house where all his problems started. Seems reasonable. Norman has been declared sane, released back into society and is genuinely trying to get his life together. He gets job, meets STRAY WAITRESS, starts cleaning up the motel and is doing his absolute best to leave Mother — and all that murder shit — in the past. But almost immediately… Somebody is in the window. Notes from Mother start appearing. People are watching through walls. Bodies may or may not be dropping. And Norman’s CRASH OUT METER starts climbing. Meanwhile, #1 HATER is absolutely NOT buying this whole Norman Bates is cured now situation, DR. LOGE is desperately trying to keep his patient on the sane side of the street, DRUNK FRANZ is making the Bates Motel everybody’s problem, and CHURCH LADY is just…around. Nothing suspicious about that. In this one we get: Norman Bates trying surprisingly hard to act normal The return of one extremely justified hater A stray waitress making questionable housing decisions Some horny teens who clearly have never seen a horror movie A steadily escalating Norman Bates Crash Out Meter Enough twists to keep everybody looking suspicious And one hell of a reminder that playing stupid games will absolutely win you stupid prizes The biggest surprise? Psycho II has no business being this good. Instead of simply trying to recreate the original, it asks a much more interesting question: What happens when Norman Bates actually gets better…but nobody, including Norman, can tell if he’s losing his mind again?     90. Stepfather

    As we roll into Black Week for Family Horror Month, we finally make it to the movie that inspired the whole damn theme: Stepfather! This Tubi Original starring thee Taye Diggs alongside R&B diva Tamar Braxton came ready to serve camp, chaos, and enough Lifetime Movie energy to power an entire Sunday afternoon marathon. More reimagining than straight-up remake, Stepfather feels like the director pulled Taye aside before filming and said, “Bro…whatever you’re thinking? Do MORE.” And thankfully, he listened. Diggs commits to every glare, outburst, smile and absolutely unhinged moment while the movie proceeds to throw every possible crazy-family trope directly in his face. Meanwhile Tamar gets increasingly better at emoting as the madness escalates, and somehow the whole thing just WORKS. This Week We Get: Completely unrealistic expectations of what constitutes a “perfect” familyStep-kids firmly divided into Team New Dad and Absolutely The F**k NotBaller-ass houses that had me repeatedly asking, “What do these people do for a living?!”Possibly the most inept police force we’ve ever encountered — I’m pretty sure I could’ve solved these crimesAnd a whole lot of yelling, outbursts and ass-kicking…both imaginary and very, very realSo sit back, relax and prepare for a low-stakes watch with even lower expectations that somehow turned into a genuinely entertaining good time. We got LOL moments. WTF moments. Taye Diggs acting ALL the way up. And a family that probably should’ve spent a little more time on background checks before bringing Bad Dad into the house. Sounds like Black Week to me.
