The Blueprint of Trinity - Richard Petan - May 31st 2026

The Blueprint of Trinity Church Before diving into baptism, we look at the structural and spiritual pillars that keep a healthy church community grounded: Plurality of Elders: Why having a team of five elders (and not just one person at the top) protects both the leadership and the congregation through accountability. The Four Pillars: Word (daily Scripture, not just 30 minutes on Sunday), Spirit (expecting His power), Community (doing life together), and Outreach (sharing the gospel). Baptism is a public declaration of an internal choice, which is why Trinity emphasizes believer's (adult) baptism. The Divine Graphic: Going down into the water represents dying to our old life; coming up represents being raised to new life in Him. The Discipleship Mandate: Looking at Matthew 28:16 (The Great Commission), the church's job doesn't stop when someone gets "dunked." We are commanded to make disciples, baptize them, and then teach them how to actually follow Jesus. Drawing from Romans 6:3-6, we break down the immediate transformation that happens in a believer's life: You aren't just a slightly refurbished version of your old self; you are a completely new creation. The Holy Spirit doesn’t drip-feed His presence; He can impart His full power right away. You are no longer a slave to sin. "Everybody comes to serve, everybody gets served. If everybody comes to be served, nobody gets served." Digging into 1 Corinthians 12, we explore the variety of spiritual gifts (wisdom, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, tongues, and discernment). The Purpose: These gifts aren't for personal status or weird stunts; they are explicitly given for the common good. Your Unique Role: You have a specific purpose and gift that only you can bring to the table. If you don't step out and use it, the rest of the body misses out. What are we supposed to teach new believers? Jesus didn't just give us the "easy" stuff. We look at the practical checklist of His commands: The Greatest Commandments: Love God completely, and love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37). The Hard Stuff: Repent and believe (Mark 1:15), love your enemies and pray for your persecutors (Matthew 5:44), and do not judge (Matthew 7:1).

Cheerful Giving from a Consecrated Life

2 Corinthians 9:7 When the topic of giving comes up, many people instinctively brace themselves—expecting pressure, guilt, or obligation. But the gospel starts somewhere entirely different. It doesn’t begin with what God wants from you. It begins with what God has already done for you—and to you. You are already accepted, already secure, already His. ⸻ 1. Grace Removes the Pressure “Not reluctantly or under compulsion…” God is not interested in guilt-driven giving. If you’ve ever felt manipulated or pressured around money, you can let that go. That’s not the voice of your Father. Because of grace, you don’t give to earn God’s approval—you already have it. And when pressure disappears, something better takes its place: freedom. ⸻ 2. Consecration Changes the Question The real shift isn’t about giving more—it’s about belonging. You are not your own. You’ve been set apart for God. That means everything you have—your time, energy, and finances—is already His. So instead of asking, “How much should I give?” you begin asking, “Lord, how do You want to use what’s already Yours?” That’s a completely different posture. It moves giving from obligation to relationship. ⸻ 3. Intentional Giving Leads to Joy “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart…” Cheerful giving doesn’t happen by accident. It’s prayerful. Thoughtful. Intentional. If you never plan to give, it will often feel like an interruption or a loss. But when you decide ahead of time—inviting God into your finances—giving becomes participation, not pressure. You’re not paying God. You’re partnering with Him. Through your local church, your giving becomes part of something bigger: lives changed, people cared for, the gospel lived out in your community. And that produces joy. ⸻ A Simple Challenge for This Week Take 10 minutes. Sit with God. Open your hands. And ask: “Father, since I belong to You… what do You want to do through me?” Then act on what He shows you: • Decide intentionally what you will give • Prioritize it in your budget • Give it freely—without pressure ⸻ The Bottom Line Cheerful giving isn’t something you force. It’s something that flows from a life that already knows: • I am loved • I belong to God • I get to participate in what He’s doing And that changes everything.

The Table That Satisfies - Jeremy Sanderson - March 29 2026

Palm Sunday: King Jesus & The Table that satisfies. It's that time of year again! We just celebrated Palm Sunday, that powerful day in the Christian calendar where we remember Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, but also the sobering reality of what was to come only a few days later. This Sunday at Trinity Church Owen Sound, we were reminded that following Jesus isn't about maintaining our own definition of "normal." Often, we approach Christianity with the expectation that God wants us to have a "perfect," "successful," or "triumphant" life by the world's standards. But, as Jeremy pointed out in this week’s message, the Christian life is not normal. Jesus says: "Those who seek to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake and the sake of the gospel will save it." That’s a powerful and counter-cultural statement! It challenges our desire for power, control, and a life built on our own terms. Think about the crowd on Palm Sunday. They were waving palm branches and shouting "Hosanna," excited for a king who they thought would satisfy their political and immediate needs. But just a few days later, some of those same people joined the crowd shouting, "Crucify him." Why? Perhaps because Jesus’ definition of "king" and "kingdom" was so different from what they expected. This week’s message posed a challenging question to us all: If you claim Jesus as king, are you truly willing to follow where he leads? Do we want to surrender our own wisdom, our own comfort, and our own desires for control, and accept that God's ways are higher than ours? It’s a call to move beyond our own understanding and to truly kneel before him. In our world, we’re often invited to a "table" of power, prestige, and success, but it's a table we have to fight for, and the satisfaction it offers is fleeting. But Jesus invites us to a different kind of table. Through his sacrifice, he offers a place that is already secure, a seat we haven't earned but are freely given. This table—which we celebrated through communion—isn't about our efforts to be "better," "holier," or "smarter." It's an invitation to stop trying to be "enough" on our own and to simply receive the love that transforms. As we go through this Holy Week, let's take a moment to reflect on what it means to truly make Jesus King of our lives. Let's remember that the journey won't always make sense by the world's standards, but it is a path that leads to a love that never fails. Lord Jesus, we want to hail you as king. Forgive us for often trying to build our own version of your kingdom. Teach us what it means to surrender our control and sit at the table you’ve prepared. Help us to experience your transforming love and to live out our faith in vibrant community. Amen. If you weren't able to join us, you can listen to the full podcast episode here. You won't want to miss it! Remember, Trinity Church Owen Sound exists to love God and others, share the good news, expand His kingdom, and make disciples who grow more like Jesus in vibrant community. Join us on this journey! We'd love to see you soon Is "Normal" really the goal? The Invitation to SurrenderA Table that satisfies.A Prayer for our journey together.Missed the service? Listen now.
