At just 6 months old, his life was tragically taken, and his father was later charged with child abuse resulting in the death of a child. In this deeply personal episode, I share Kristian’s story, the lasting trauma of losing him, and the reality that he would have been 21 years old this year. Memorial Day weekend has never been the same for our family, and this conversation is about remembering Kristian, honoring his life, and giving a voice to the grief that never truly leaves. This episode may be difficult for some viewers, but my hope is that by sharing Kristian’s story, others who have experienced loss, abuse, or trauma will know they are not alone. Natalie’s father died from cancer in 1974. Her sister Betsy passed away from ovarian cancer in 1999. Another sister, Bernice, was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 2008. Natalie herself was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2005/2006. In this conversation, Natalie opens up about what it means to carry a genetic cancer syndrome, the fear and strength that comes with it, and how a family can face unimaginable loss while still choosing courage, awareness, and hope. By sharing her story, Natalie hopes to raise awareness about Lynch Syndrome and the importance of genetic testing, early screening, and family conversations that can save lives. But on the morning of February 15, 2003, a devastating apartment fire in Rising Sun, Maryland changed everything. Karen, Brian, and their oldest daughter Haley escaped the burning building. When Brian realized that their youngest daughter Hannah was still inside, he made the decision no father hesitates to make — he ran back in to save his baby. Brian and Hannah never made it out. In this powerful conversation, Karen shares the story of the man Brian was, the little girl Hannah will always be remembered as, and how she and Haley found the strength to keep moving forward after losing them.
